FIFA President Congratulatues Gor Mahia

FIFA President Sepp Blatter is the latest person to send his congratulations to Gor Mahia for having won the 2013 Kenya Premier league.

In a letter sent through Football Kenya Federation, Blatter asked the federation chairman Sam Nyamweya to convey his good message to champions. “Please pass my warm congratulation to Gor Mahia for winning their first championship in 18 years and their 13th in total,” said part of the letter. The president went ahead to acknowledge the good work by players, the technical bench and the big role of Gor Mahia fans within football circles in Kenya.
The FIFA president also on behalf of the world football community commended the club for ”excitement they bring to the fans of the football game” and wished the club all the best in in the CAF Champions League campaign.
As far as this write recalls, this is the first time a FIFA official is congratulating a Kenyan club for anything. Gor Mahia’s triumphant 2013 TPL victory has truly shaken all corners of the globe. Perhaps this is why fans refer to the club as “Mayienga mayiengo piny” i.e. an earthquake that shakes the whole world.

Faiz takes issue with Sports Minister

Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia want an apology from the Sports, Arts and Culture Cabinet Secretary Dr. Hassan Wario who the K’Ogalo vice chairman Mr. Faiz Ochieng claims branded the club as hooligans in his speech at the KPL Awards gala on Wednesday 20 November.Dr. Wario, in his speech blasted the club’s fans over acts of hooliganism witnessed during the GOtv Shield final game against AFC Leopards, placing the blame on them for the destruction seen on the day and called on the club management to seek ways of preventing a repeat.Incitement Faiz, however, notes that Dr. Wario’s speech was not made in good intention, labeling it incitement and defended Gor Mahia fans from the claims, urging the minister to play a more conciliatory role that leveling blame.-I never took it positively coming from the minister and someone who should promote peace. That was incitement and he should come out and apologize to us. He badly generalized issues and I would like him to know that not everyone putting on a Gor Mahia jersey is a Gor Mahia fan.Ill advised-His statement at the event was ill advised and ill timed – that was a national and international event thus portraying Gor Mahia and Kenya in bad light; as a leader he should be careful when addressing the public – he should use sport to promote peace not incite.

-It would have been better for him to call the stakeholders and talk to them as a leader rather than using the event to soil others’ reputations, he told futaa.com.

Wario’s speech was in reaction to Sam Nyamweya’s. The FKF chairman had absolved KPL clubs of blame in acts of hooliganism.

Ooh Laa La..”CALL A SPADE A SPADE AND NOT A BIG SPOON”

FAIZ Gor Mahia fans have hooligans in all categories. Even within the EC, I can confirm that from your periodical official denials ;yourself and G.Bwana are the beneficiary of hooliganism. Deal with this vice once and for all. THIS IS GOR’S IN-HOUSE PROBLEM.

Gor Mahia is a team that can not even celebrate with a lap of honor after winning TPL in front of its fans.

I think even FIFA recognition for winning TPL has been widely contributed by hooliganisms and all the bad news associated with the club.

A team that a fan will do a gymnastic to death after scoring a goal.

A team that 7 fans will die during a derby because of poor organization strategy causing a stamped in gate 2.

A team where fans invade pitch to beat opposing players at will.

Even in this blog site the likes of @Jamigori are hooligans from the way I Internalize their comments. In fact most hooligans like him rarely pays a single coin to watch any match but they are the loudest noise makers in the stadia.

Faiz himself reasons like a hooligan. What do you expect? I have never seen any constructive statement from this man Faiz. GM can do without him

FAIZ the current government will not help in curbing hooliganism menace within GOR and AFC but instead it will play politics with the issue for it’s own mileage.

Please accept that majority of our Fans and especially those within the youthful age bracket are dangerous hooligans, who smoke Bhang and come to the stadia intoxicated and if not checked in good time will cause this club some serious brand damage.

Your office also should show leadership, I was not happy when you and G.Bwana intentionally influenced the same fans to invade the pitch while TPL match was on going by parading the limousines. That is a typical hooligan mindset in planning and execution.

Well K’galo team 2013. Yes I want to go on record as having congratulated even the bloated executive community. What the players, TB have achieved is really commendable but all that is now past glory.
Its time to make hard decisions so that the club becomes one of the best in Africa.
    1. Fans must lead in restructuring the EC hence club. We must reduce size of EC to 4 ELECTED OFFICIALS WITH A FULLTIME COMPETITIVEL SOURCED SECRETARIAT.
    2. TB must recruit the best players who don’t come cheap but….

also means some/most of the current midfield/ forwards will have 2 b released. Trust me if BW is serious as I believe he is than thats what he’ll do. There’s no room 4 sentiments.
    3. 4get the police sorting out hooliganism. Just billboard these human waste prominently on the stadia & at stragetic points in the city.
GOR MAHIA NI FANS AND I BELIEVE PRESSURE FROM FANS WILL STEER THE CLUB TO GREATER HEIGHTS.
AVOID UNKNOWNS VOTE WISELY & GIVE QUALIFIED LEGENDS A CHANCE.

@ 1 roos, Feiz is not defending hooligans he is defending innocent fans like you and me. I will also stand firm to say that some of these hooligans are not Gor fans but they put on Gor jerseys. Dr. Wario made the statement at a wrong place and it potrayed a very negative picture. The whole Gor club was affected. It was heard and seen by the whole world. This affects the club negatively.

  • CONGRATS THE CLASS OF 2013

Kajiado county Gor Mahia branch family proudly congratulates the winning class of K’Ogalo 2013 for their stellar performance. May I start with the players for their hard work, discipline and focus during the entire season.

May I also salute the technical bench being led by our indefatigable coach, Bobby Williamson for staying focused on their league program and strategy despite the huge pressure from the fans and the Executive Committee.

I cannot forget the Executive Committee led by our able chair, Ambrose Rachier for providing leadership and good stewardship of the club’s resources. I must admit without batting an eyelid, under their watch the club was able to attract shirt sponsors and improve locally generated revenue tenfold. And because the Annual General Meeting is around the corner, let us put the future of our great club first before selfish personal interest.

What about the green Army? I salute each of you; the traveling fans, sofa set fans, diaspora fans for your contribution including staying loyal and true to the club you love and cherish. Every town you visited, every club you patroned, every event you graced, the green and white colors of our club is clearly visible. In the carnivore during live recording of Churchill Live or at the Tusker project the Mahia mojo is infectious.

Lastly, to my fellow bloggers on this site, http://www.gormahia.net, I salute you. I heard this site is for the hooligans of K’Ogalo ( just kidding)! You have given us good company throughout the season. We agreed to disagree at times but at the end of the day, we are one indivincible family. I must say, I have learnt a lot from you. Thank you so much.

I thought some people argued out that if the cost of watching matches go up then there will be no hooligans. So was there any difference for the previous match?

Hooliganism starts with you and me so let us got behave like uncivilized society.

As for what Feiz is saying, he is right to defend the GM community since Wario’s speech was useless at that particular moment since we were celebrating all award winners and not talking about the fans. Furthermore hooligans are not players who went to pick awards. It went anti-climax. That does not mean any of us support hooliganism as through this you can easily lose life. I really felt bad to hear that Dan Original had the windows to his cars smashed.

I think I’ll step in many people’s shoes but let me say that most people over-drunk,over-smoke bhang before going to stadiums so what do you expect? That is where hooliganism start.

  • Guys, as much as Wario was VERY WRONG AND CARELESS with his words since as a leader he needs to weigh his words Faiz has also not been making life easy for Gor as a brand. Can he tell us about the perimeter wall by police during the Gotv final. He yapped about this security for a whole week only for us to go to the stadium and see even less security than in other derbies. For Wario he should know that it’s the duty of the govt to provide security as the clubs can only do this much. A soccer match can be equally charged like a political rally where they provide security.
It’s a fact that AFC and Gor just like the River Plates, Fernabaches, Al Ahly cannot manage to control their fans and therefore the govt needs to take control

gor mahia fans can be termed as hooligans just as the kenya police can be termed as corrupt. it’s all a matter of which half of the glass you want to look at.
gor mahia can contribute on fan violence problem thru’ education but has choosen to keep quiet. the other major player is the goverment, the police can take control of the situation but one thing is for sure, should they do anything, politics will be thrown in the mess by the fans and officials. eg recently some several fans trying to loot were shoot and all of a sudden ‘gor fans were being finished’, so were the claims. goverment shud come in strongly like what has happened in egypt. fkf does not have the guts to do anything and the chairman Nyamweya seems to be a puppet to ‘some’ community in the footbal fraternity. a section of gor fans found a way of easy looting routine. these are the same guys who coz chaos in every match wether gor win or lose. i have seen them and yes they are gor fans. one thing true gor fans shud note, this gorverment is not a cord goverment. Wario is not a football lover and owes no allegiance to code. Jubilee could easily sit back and watch the situation deteriorate for they know that is a sport ‘they have no hold on’. it’s nothing about being patriotic, it’s about tribe and interests and that’s how things are done in kenya. for the communities that are deeply tied in soccer , in my opinion, are basically too stupid to manage it well.

The Minister to me is not wrong to mention the hooliganism menace anywhere even at a UN Security Council because in the end its the innocent peace loving fan (Dan Original comes to mind and remember the vegetable vendors at Nakuru who got their wares doused in urine), pedestrian and Motorist who gets hurt at anytime anywhere. So why do we want to insist these goons should be mentioned only at a convenient forum? No way!

Its also worth noting that these Hooligans have been instrumental in mobilizing their own to back candidates during the elections and when scores need to be settled , they somehow remain valuable to some people.

And now that they have become attractive to the political class as a form of promoting negative ethnicity, your fear is as good as mine.

Its even more worrying when they remain a sustainable market to the drug dealers and other such illicit industries. Now, i think we need to be extremely worried since their supporters are not only dangerous but influential too..

  • It’s great to see the FIFA high command appreciate Kogalo. The players now know that there are also serious scouts watching their every move.

On recruitment for CAF, i feel CECAFA is the best place to do shopping. Scouting for the future was already done during the EA school games in Uganda. Let us see the talented boys come in.

The minister should tell us what his govt is doing to curb hooliganism before, during and after the matches. Just talking will not help. The govt itself admit there is increase in cases of insecurity in the country and it is unable to contain the same. To me wario should be sacked because of his many failures in sport docket. K’Ogalo is a football team and at no point our players nor the EC have been recruited in the Kenyan police to curb hooliganism in this country . Wario should lecture ole lenku on this and leave our beloved team alone. K’Ogalo has done this country proud latest is a congratulation from FIFA PRESIDENT himself so who are you. Accept you have failed and move on

    LETTER TO FAIZ !

    HOOLIGANISM IS HERE WITH US, THATS THE REALITY ! EVERY CLUB IN THE WORLD HAS EMBRACED HOOLIGANS BECAUSE FOOTBALL IS AN EMOTIONAL MASS SPORT AND THEREFORE YOU CANNOT CONTROL HOW EVERYBODY THINKS/REACTS TO SITUATIONS. HERE IS MY TWO POINT AGENDA TO ADDRESS HOOLIGANISM IN KOGALLO;

    1. ZERO TOLERANCE TO HOOLIGANISM INSIDE THE STADIA. ADOPT PREVENTIVE TACTICS E.G CREATE A ‘KOGALLO ANTI HOOLIGAN SQUAD’ WHO PATROL THE STANDS DURING KOGALLO MATCHES, IDENTIFING THE PERPETRATORS, FISHING THEM OUT AND DEALING WITH THE ACCORDINGLY , THEY ALSO HAVE THE POWERS TO KICK THE HOOLIGANS OUT OF THE STADIA( HANDING THEM OVER TO SECURITY PEOPLE). SINCE HOOLIGANS ARE HARDLY FOUND IN THE VIP STANDS, THIS SHOULD BE VERY EASY BUT ALSO PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY FOR OPTION 2.

    2. MAKE IT DIFFICULT FOR HOOLIGANS TO COME TO STADIA. ADOPT DEFENSIVE TACTICS E.G INCREASE GATE CHARGES AND MAKE IT DIFFICULT FOR HOOLIGANS TO HAVE A NICE TIME. AS YOU INCREASE GATE CHARGES , MAKE THE TICKETS ELECTRONIC SUCH THAT IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO FORGE !

    3. DO NOT ENCOURAGE HOOLIGANS TO COME TO STADIA. ADOPT CORRECTIVE TACTICS E.G DO NOT SELL TICKETS ON MATCH DAY, BAN DRINKING AND SMOKING IN THE AREA E.T.C .E.TC

In order to be proactive on this matter, maybe we need to answer the question – what are the causes of hooliganism before dealing with preventive and reactive measures. If we address the cause then we are headed for a more permanent situation which is better.

The cause of hooliganism stem from lack of respect for others rights resulting from poor upbringing. Some of us were taught to respect authority and rights of others which is a godly virtue. How then do explain one throwing stones at a fellow human being and hurling abuses at a policemen who has not wronged you. How do explain someone smoking bangh and cigerrates in the midist of others including children and when asked to show some respect for others you resort to threatening postures. Some people have so much respect they would smoke away from others why not these disrespectful bunch. Poor upbringing and lack of respect and this lot can onlybe dealt with using the laws of the land.

@ 17 – Voltage I fully agree. If only people could do their ‘things’ (for those who drink or smoke bhang) responsibly and with respect for others then hooliganism can be minimized or totally eradicated. Sometime back it used to only happen when referees made wrong decisions but of late, it’s like mandatory for every game and that is really a bad trend…
