Gattuso blames it on language barrier

From michezoafrika.com

Gor Mahia’s midfielder Collins Okoth will miss the return leg match of the CAF Confederations Cup match against Mozambiquan club Ferroviario after being shown red in the first leg match played in Maputo on Saturday night. Okoth was handed the red card by the Malawian referee after the match in what the referee thought was foul mouth from the Kenyan midfielder.

But according to Collins Okoth, it was due to poor understanding of English by the Malawian who misunderstood his words for some heavy foul mouth.

“It was a very unfortunate incident and everyone heard what I said including the first assistant referee who tried to explain to him but he had already flashed the card and nothing could be done. I simply told him ‘good game but you were not there’ Okoth Said.

According to the team players, the match officials were biased in their officiating throughout the match denying Gor Mahia a genuine penalty when striker Baldin Ngwa was fallen in the box.

“We could have landed an away goal from that lost opportunity. It was a bit frustrating but we will pick ourselves up and fight hard towards ensuring we redeem ourselves at home in the return leg.” Added Okoth.

Okoth was speaking at the airport when Gor Mahia landed back in Nairobi from Maputo shortly after 4:00PM Kenyan time.

In the first leg match played on Saturday night in Maputo, Gor Mahia lost 3-0 and will need a clean 4-0 win in Nairobi in a fortnight to qualify for the next round.

Now Malawi is Anglophone and I don’t expect that referee to have a problem with English….

@6 Albert Kosero (Sofaset Branch Kampala) pole. I understand how you feel.

    I have two observations:

1.Jerry Onyango is and was the team captain and team discipline stipulates that on pitch the captain is the communication link to the ref.
2.May I advice all Gor Mahia players that Sheng is not an international language!

Gattuso is a good, tough ,inspiring link man, but if what is being said about his discipline or indiscipline is true then he needs help not shouting.

Not just an advisor Ronald but a counselor, some kind of a professional sports psychologist. Various teams around the world have employed or contracted sports psychologists to handle players with similar crises.
