Ghana’s world cup coach admits Kogalo are a class above

James Kwesi Appiah, the Ghanaian coach who steered Ghana to qualification of the 2014 world cup with a memorable 6-1 win  over Egypt and a creditable 2-2 draw with eventual winners Germany, has admitted that his side Al Khartoum were comprehensively outplayed by Gor Mahia.

“Gor Mahia was a better side and deserved victory by all accounts. They (Gor Mahia) were a joy to watch. They deserve to be in the final and I don’t think they will be stopped now,”.

His counterpart Frank Nuttall credited his team’s team-work and commitment for the victory.

“We are happy to be unbeaten and to make sure we won the game today. We were well organized and prepared coming into the game. We were a little disappointed to concede the early goal but we knew we would score.  People and individuals make headlines but it is always all about team work” said Nuttal.

It has indeed been a superb effort with different players stepping forward to play crucial roles. Though Olunga may get much credit, players like Aucho, Wafula, Sibomana, Shakava and Walusimbi have been superb in the last two games. Many will say that it is the forward line that carries the team but of late the entire unit has been hitting on all cylinders.

FKF chair Sam Nyamweya for his part has announced that the federation will reward Gor Mahia with Ksh 250,000 should they win the torunament.

“We want to confirm that we will reward Gor Mahia with Sh250, 000 if they emerge winners of the competition. As we await the final match we join hands with all other Kenyan fans in supporting the team as it aims to clinch this year’s trophy.” he said according to goal.com

President Kenyatta also joined in congratulating Gor Mahia via his twitter handle.

Well played #GorMahia. Congratulations for reaching the finals of the #CECAFAKagameCup. Best of luck as you prepare to win in the finals.”

It will be remembered that the president facilitated return tickets for the club after FKF declined to provide them.

To me, 250, 000 Kshs offered by FKF is too little, but let me hold my mouth till the last whistle after final.

If James Kwesi Appiah can acknowledge our efforts, who are Mahmoud Abbas and Thika United’s Dennis Odhiambo to opine otherwise? What I know is:

Kocha ni Franco, kocha ni Nuttal……
Nalembi libalabala……Sir Bobby John Ogolla, Sir Bobby John Ogolla,
Rateng maninga wuoche gweno nyandhuru kwesi wuod Anyango nyar K’Ogalo…..K’Ogalo Gor Mahiaaaa……..
    Tiu, tiu!

Bwana Nyamweya ongeza mkono; 250,000 is a drop of salt in the ocean compared with what the boys have achieved so far. I suggest that Nyamweya unconditionally gives the boys that 250,000 while he looks around for a credible sponsor for K’Ogalo. Getting Gor Mahia a credible sponsorship is the best gift Nyamweya should promise and give. How far can 250,000 take Gor Mahia anyway?

The Team is now in the money bracket of this competition. I urge the boys for once to be motivated by that prize money. There is so much that that 3 million can do to better the players’ lives. Go for it boys and nothing should stop you in your quest for the money. You should be under no pressure at all because as your fans we appreciate the effort you have put in so far. Your achievement so far exceeds all expectations and cannot be begrudged.

I said it, no matter what ,we shall overcome! Success to me has always been closely associated with the consistency of purpose. The boys have identified the prey and have now zeroed in on it ready to pounce! Go for it Boys, its all yours for the taking! Mighty Kogalo!

  • It has been a while since a commented on Gor.For many years Gor was a pale shadow of itself.I remember walking to Nyayo Stadium and City Stadium to watch Gor play.On occasion I would board their bus in South B.Gor used to be hosted at the South B Guest House behind present day OLM primary school.Very Quite and Serene place;and they would train in MoW or the current CID training school in South C.That was before facebook, internet and cell phones. We were kids then.

You can imagine how big Gor was.Onyango Jogoo,Khamis Magongo,Rero,Ndolo,Pierre,Mwidau,Dawo,Nyangi,Bobby,Bassanga,Khaduli,Fundi….Gor was BIG…LIKE REALLY BIG…and when the made rounds in South B or South C you can image how the whole area was a standstill…..remember most of the time kids played outside…now i see everyone is online and on facebook and video games…..GOR WAS REALLY BIG.

If this team can stay together for another 5 years…Who knows…HISTORY MIGHT REPEAT ITSELFT…ANOTHER MANDELA CUP MAYBE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We all know that as soccer fans we have issue with Nyamweya. But instead of lashing out at him let’s pledge an even bigger figure for the players until his amount becomes inconsequential. Otherwise telling him off to take the money elsewhere yet we know the players are owed lots of money by the club. All these wins we are taking up means more winning bonuses to be paid. As a team Gor should not take sides as fans do but accept all and saundry and sooner or later we will have a sponsor on board

My appeal to our coach frank nutall time has now come for u to assist or recommend gormahia players to Europe or Asia clubs as a fan I will hate to see this enormous talents going into wastage this are players who have reached there pickness . Olunga should be assisted to join good clubs such as Celtic fc or some clubs in Scotland n he can transfer the degree he is doing in Kenya to Scotland in any case in Europe the first two years in a degree course u don’t specialize u get basic subjects so olunga can fit here. The height of shakava can market him in France clubs also it is the same story with other gor players . I URGE GOR PLAYERS TO THINK BIG
As you face Azam fc tomorrow be calm n work work hard n convert all chances

I take this opportunity to condemn the barbaric beating of Jaro Soja, Mike Okinyi and other Citizen crew by the Tanzanian security personnel. I express my sympathy and solidarity with all these brave men who have had to be locked in Dar police cells simply because of their love for Gor Mahia. The action by those cowards is tantamount to forceful displacement of humanity (since those beatings and arrests displaced these K’Ogalo supporters from the stadium thereby denying them an opportunity to cheer the team in the semi-final match). May I remind them that forceful displacement of humanity is a punishable international crime. Bure kabisa.

The intimidation being meted on Gor Mahia supporters in Dar is a clear sign of panic because they realize that K’Ogalo is unstoppable.

For the Christians ( tomorrow being a Sunday) amongst us let’s spare an special earnest prayer request to the Almighty to deliver victory to K’galo.
Not forgetting the spirit of the mystical Gor Mahia to inspire the T.B and players.
Let’s put our efforts/hearts together to make Gor Mahia the best football club in the world rather than advocating for our achieving players to opt out of this great team early.
Everything has its time and place certainly to expect a quality player to leave Mighty K’galo after a mere 6 months or a single season for some obscure Chinese team or the Yanga’s /KCCA’s reveals is diluting this observation of a World Cup coach
“They (Gor Mahia) were a joy to watch. They deserve to be in the final and I don’t think they will be stopped now,”

Our right flank is vulnerable. This is where Farid Mussa (17) will be operating and our right fullback must stay alert throughout the 90 plus minutes perhaps with assistance from our midfield. Farid Mussa is the main feeder to Kipre Tche Tche and John Bocco ‘Haram’. Yanga knew him although he gave the Yanga right flank very very trying times. He was able to score the winner against KCCA when KCCA defence momentarily forgot to keep tubs on him.

I believe Musa Mohammed will be able to stand his ground against the might of John Bocco ‘Haram’ while Microsoft Olunga will be able to outsmart the menacing Serge Pascal Wawa and Aggrey Morris. We only need to contain them in the first 60 minutes and the last 10 minutes. This gives us a window of opportunity to pump in (more) goals between the 61st and 80th minutes. This period is crucial because the tournament has revealed that TZ teams are only good for the first 60 minutes.
