Gor Mahia 2 Karuturi Sports 1

Goals from Kevin “Ade’ Omondi and another by Ugandan defender Israel Emuge gave K’Ogalo their fourth win in a row and help them stretch league lead

Gor Mahia continued their match towards the 2013 Kenyan Premier League title after edging out a stubborn Karuturi Sports 2-1 at City Stadium on Saturday.

Goals from Kevin Omondi in the 18th minute and another by Israel Emuge in the 76th minute gave Gor their fourth win in a row. They now have 35 points and sit perfectly at the top of the table standings. Hussein Zzinda scored for the visitors in the 49th minute.

Karuturi felt early pressure as the match kicked-off and Joseph Kariuki earned the first booking when he brought down Eric Ochieng in an attempt to cool down Gor’s attacks.

Paul Kiongera who has scored in the last two matches was in his true element and by the eighth minute he had blasted wide as Gor kept up the pressure.

In the 11th minute Karuturi Sports veteran goalkeeper Noah Ayuko was forced to come out and stop Joseph Njuguna from putting Gor ahead. Njuguna had combined well with Kevin Omondi and beat the Karuturi defense.

A minute later, Gor had won their first corner of the match with defender Godfrey Msieba putting the ball out as he tried to stop Paul Kiongera. The former KCB man was behind every move by his side to go ahead and it was always a question of when the goal would come.

It did not take long and Kionegera taking advantage of a miss-pass by Emmanuel Olupot picked out Kevin Omondi who made no mistake to score in the 17th minute.

Motivated by the goal, Gor’s second came almost immediately. Innocent Mutiso combined well with Kevin Omondi and the final ball ended at the feet of Joseph Njuguna who could not get past a forest of legs in the Karuturi defense.

Karuturi were fielding two former Gor Mahia players Duncun Owiti and John Kiplagat and both gave their former side problems but it was the latter, who made the first effort at goal.

Kiplagat playing mostly on the right flank had his team’s first attempt at goal but this was easily picked by Jerim Onyango in the 30th minute. His second came almost immediately after combining well with Zzinda Hussein but shot straight at Onyango in the Gor goal.

Onyango was then forced to come out and stop Kiplagat in a one on one situation. After that Zzinda had an attempt at the Gor goal but his shot went just wide.

Gor were forced to substitute Eric Ochieng and bring in Ivan Anguyo after the former was injured as the half time approached.

Karuturi shocked Gor Mahia with a 49th minute goal after play had resumed when Hussein Zzinda beat an off-side trap to score.

Infuriated Gor players protested and midfielder Joseph Njuguna earned a yellow card. The match was stopped for a few minutes as angry fans threw objects on the pitch and it took the intervention of Gor Mahia assistant coach John ‘Bobby’ Ogolla for the match to continue.

Paul Kiongera then forced Ayuko to make the save of the match with a powerful fre- kick as Gor fought to get ahead. Kevin Omondi and Joseph Njuguna were both rested for Paul Odhiambo and Teddy Akumu in a effort that gave Gor more strength upfront.

In the 70th minute, Gor won a corner and Innocent Mutiso stepped up to take it and he did a good job as Karuturi defenders failed to clear and the lose ball was duly blasted home by Israel Emuge for his first goal of the premiership.

Gor Mahia has never ended any match on such a high in recent times. That is the seriousness and fighting spirit that comes when every match is taken as a final. The good substitutions in the second half are what actually won the game for us.

Congratulations boys, Tech. Bench and the entire family.

With a little more seriousness, K14 should have given us a more comfortable scoreline within seconds after his opener. At the end of the day it is the goals that matter not how stylishly or how classically it is scored.

  • It’s either we fix that below average midfield or we forget about winning the title..

  • Karaturi needs to appeal. Why should Gor fans be throwing objects at them and the refs?…..To Gor fans who are already openening champaign bottles, I say take a deep breadth and look at the last 10 opponents that Gor has to play versus the other contending teams

@Ingo that’s the reason we are picking the points now. For your info there are no longer small or big teams in the league. See how Kataturi and Homeboys gave
Gor and Tusker a run for their money. If I remember very well the same team beat Ingwe.
Guys I can see us now playing with a purpose to the extent that the failings in the midfield are compensated by the defense and attack focus.
Congrats boys for struggling for that win.

  • @Ingo keep wishing but as of today we are 8points clear and we thank God for that. My biggest worry has been the midfield which has not been dominant and i trully thank God for the good defence and foward. Bobby Williamson please work on this area it is a big dissappointment. I will keep praying that something is done soon. A dominant midfield means we shall be winning convincingly unlike what am seeing now.

  • 33 more points from 13 matches. We can only afford to drop 6pts in our remaining fixtures at this stage. To the players no need arguing with the ref once he decides, it makes fans more agitated by the decision and can make bad to gets worse both on and off the pitch. Gor players pliz keep ur cool. Every game is a final.

  • Dan…..for your info, Ingwe beat Homeboyz 3 ziip. Return game will be Ingwes last game of the seaon….Let me again say this, Gors fans can not be fighting opponent teams, refs and Hawkers. SOMETHING MUST BE DONE. I know you have Ogunda covering for you and scheduling suspicious refs who allow funny funny goals. The League, its teams, fans, Sponsors and players are however bigger than Gor and its godfather Ogunda

@Ingo please re-read Dan’s comment. I pray that Efusi wins tomorrow and I believe they will because we won today. My advice to you is that in the El-classico we are the home team so Efusi cannot take us to the forest (Mumias). Nyayo stadium is ‘Bobby-trapped’. Tok Komwanda is ‘Bobby-trapped’. Kasarani is ‘Bobby-trapped’. Where will the leopard hide? A goal for each Bobby and we match on.

  • Good result.
@ Ingo beware that those other contendars will also play against Gor…. I mean GOR MAHIA and other 10 contendars. Good subtition made by TB. Remember this GOR MAHIA

    Reply
  • Barefoot, when you say that Nyayo, City and Kasarani are ‘Bobby-trapped’ do you mean that they have been “Black magic trapped” by Bobby? I know the man Gor Mahia was a famous Witch Craft man from Homa Bay. I thought you all have moved away from that “stuff” Jameni !

  • @Ingo I bet sofapaka should also appeal for th 1st leg match. By the way, y dnt u focus on ur team instead of lamenting on every win by sirkal. Accept we won and move on and pray for ur team.

  • Hiyo midfield inaleta wasiwasi, but am happy with the win i know style will follow, fans deserve it 4 their support.
I still feel that 4 creative midfielders TB should opt 4 Ethiopia/Lesotho/Malawi/Zimbabwe/Zambian leagues 4 players especially if we are to make an impact in CECAFA/CAF.
The 12th man was crucial in today’s win, if u know what i mean, asante.

Congrats our boys, and hope u noticed that Eric Ochieng marshalled that mid, after his injury,,we were opened up.. Sir Bobby knows.

@Ingo my brother why rush to think of black magic? You have shocked me. Those who are paranoid about black magic must know something about it and that reminds me of how superstitious the leopard is. It is the leopard’s superstition that makes them take teams to the forest or to Mombasa. Do you remember how that backfired last season in the hands of Tusker?

In Gor Mahia we know nothing of black magic although the team is named after one. K’Ogalo only relies on brains, determination, team work and the 12th man. ‘Bobby-trapped’ simply means that the two Bobbys have worked out a playing outfit that is very much at home in any of those three grounds and opposing teams including the leopard will have no option but to let go of three points albeit reluctantly. I hope am clear omwami.

@Barefoot leave alone that guy there is no need of arguing with him they are always after gor and by the time the league is over we are always above them.they are so tribal and that is why aplayer from another tribe cant prosper in that ka team.they believe in black magic that Bagae failed/refused to participate in some of them and he was thrown out,so ni kawaida yao .

guys why argue with this ingwe nonsense, what have they achieved to deserve your time ad space. Anyway thanks to the only team with a white man in the league, but do i say, correct the midfield and we will be there. I pray to God for the best. With what i saw today, i see a bit of the 80’s squad coming back. hit the gym boys for stamina like Odembo and Magongo did then. All the best.

Seems I missed one of our best matches today! Congrats to the whole team and technical bench. Whoz gonna stop us? Ain’t nobody. Tusker here we come. We gonna sip some Tusker on Wed. That’s the price u pay for eliminating us from Top 8. It’s damn expensive, potentially 14 points behind.

  • congrats but dissappointed by some of the gor players’ behaviour. i thought jerim was one level headed captain but i was wrong. owino also was a let down after the ‘offside’ goal. his play turned personal and one can clearly see luck of maturity. gor players pls understand that with such behaviour is probably why ur not making past the kenyan borders. my advice, a good fighter is given a blow and he finds himself to the flow, he gets up brushes himself and smiles and continue as if nothing happens. he only makes sure that it does not happen again. innocent Mutiso, this player clearly stands out and if he plays his cards right he will go far. congrats again and welcome the tuskers guys, already feeling the excitement.

@pod antie you missed agood game but our midfield is still worying,it is not just we only lack one player in the midfield,ACREATIVE HOLDING MIDFIELDER who can hold the ball and supply toour strikers,i just propose that that akumu and dube should just continue manning that midfield instead of anguyo, am not saying that heis bad but the guy is not good as aholding midfielder he is just too heavy and like back pedaling.and that is why there was slight change in the midfield when akumu was brought in because of his swift moves.
otherwise to the noisy neighbours who are looking for gor mahia downfall mtangoja mchoke just continue with your endless politics with atrophy less cabinet every year.

  • Our midfield isn’t so bad, just a little corrections depending on the system of play. Njuguna was not at his best and the coaches saw that. Eric is just the man we need and if fielded with Akumu, you will see the difference. Let’s just pray that the injuries don’t occur. Anguyo is abit heavy but I must recognize his pin point passes and nice crosses. The team is good and will get us to the end as the best. At least Muthurwa issue didn’t occur again. Thank you Kogalo Fans and may God bless Gor Mahia family.

our only salvation is to ensure that we keep Ingwe, Tusker and Sofapaka doing the chasing. That means that they win we win , they draw we draw and of course when they lose we don’T. In that case they will be the once under must-win pressures. Otherwise it’s gonna be a rollercaster race and for the faint-hearted let them thik again. Giniwasekawo chants should only be for motivation and not facts. If we have our second leg run asbefore then we have enough points to cushion us. But now the hard work begins and I believe everybody, the fans, EC, players and TB are upto the task. The game against Karaturi brought the best in us and if we have that mentality as we go ahead then then we will reap the fruits

  • How do you win matches against your opponents? You outwit, out fox out think and use better strategies against them. Presently, Gor Mahia have the better players in KPL and if our coaches uses superior strategies, we are sure to win the KPL trophy. BW And JBO must re jig our midfield to bring into play those players like Gathu, DUBE and Akumu. Now is the time for our players to release their full potential.

With the rise of Shemejis we will have to keep our calm and grind the points in whatever way we can.
I was impressed by the ‘PEACE’ messages and I hope ther were no cases at Muthurwa. Heard some of our ‘fans’ saying now we go and finish with the Muthurwa team and was not amused. PEACE will also help us reduce the tension on the playing team as well.

Congratulations are in order for the three points. Ingo can go hang with his brother Disi.Even then am alot disturbed, Bobby 1 and Bobby 2 why field two very sluggish men (Anguyo and Njuguna)in midfield at the same time. Do you know your players? There was a time I though we had given it away.Akumu and Rasta must start playing regularly again if we are serious about the title, otherwise forget it.K14 need to understand that at his age he should be playing full 90 minutes

    Congratulations to the team.

I think the mid had less problems than mentioned here. I saw the defence trying to by pass the midfield to effect quick attacks. But as it has been we will give the tech bench space and peace to field as they deem fit.

I also think Jerim should take responsibility for the Karuturi goal, i feel he must play to the whistle, his class of late do not permit conceding such a goal.

I thank God there are no reports of Muthurwa massacre this time round, may the lord prevail upon the hearts of the trouble makers so they may change for good.
