Gor Mahia 2 SoNy 2, Match ends in chaos

Goal-scorer : Kevin Omondi

That Sony Sugar are a hard nut to crack at their home ground  is a statement Gor Mahia will live to remember for long after they were forced to comeback from behind twice to draw with the Sugar millers at Awendo Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

However, the match was abandoned with five minutes of play left after Sony protested the equaliser.

The hosts threatened first but the hawk eyed Jerim Onyango was unshaken between the net.In the 20th minute, Sony Sugar took the lead courtesy of Moses Arita who converted a corner kick.

K’Ogalo then took over the proceedings with Sony putting a heavy defensive buffer on their goal. Mungai Kiongera was not as his usual best and squandered several opportunities.

Sony led 1-0 at the halftime break.

In the 55th minute, Kevin Omondi who came on as a substitute for Edwin Lavatsa levelled the scoreline with a beautiful  header  but the celebrations were shortlived as Marwa Chamberi restored Sony’s lead after capitalising on a defence blunder five minutes later.

Just like last weekend during the derby, David “Calabar” Owino  again came to K’Ogalo rescue with an 40-yard  equaliser shot that ricocheted off the lower side of the crossbar.

Sony Sugar protested the equaliser but this fell on deaf ear as the assistant referee allowed the goal. This led to a stand-off as Sony players refused to continue with play. Some Gor Mahia fans invaded the pitch and this forced police to intervene. The chase game rendered Awendo-Migori road a no go zone for the faint hearted.

With no goal line technology to resolve the matter ,KPL are expected to rule on the fate of the match.

Sony play.ers should be punished for that childish behaviour. It is an offence for a player to refuse to continue with play. They could have protested in a better way. Let kpl act accordingly and award Gor the match.

Let me assume it was not our fans. But fans should know that the ref is at liberty not to add time occasioned by a team refusing to continue play. If the game was stopped because SONY refused to play then most probably the game would have ended immediately after resumption

Hapa kuna shida kubwa. Even if Sony players refused 2 play, the referee must wait 4 a certain amount of time (I think its 10mins) b4 calling off the match then its automatically awarded 2 GM no questions asked.
Now this report says “GM fans” invaded the pitch.

Was this b4 or after the expiry of the allowed time?

If twas b4 then events of our match against City Stars come into play where EC accepted liability 4 actions of goons wearing GM jersey even during away games.

  • ODUOR12

By EC accepting that twas “GM fans” who destroyed seats at Kasarani how will they now disassociate the club from the “GM fans” who invaded the pitch & any damage they caused. This is why I said EC should have totally avoided the SECURITY ISSUE BE IT @ HOME/ AWAY.
B4 we lay any blame on the players remember they made the journey all the way 2 Awendo by road on Saturday, kwani the 1M bond was not refunded.
Mark my words I said b4 Gini Wasekao but EC will mess it up. No wonder B.W is ever cautious.

I stil repeat Sony players especially Kasaya seriously broke the rules and kpl disciplinary committee should take action on them, then Gor be awarded the 3 points. Those who are saying the players are not to blame are not honnest. Infact they were the genesis of the whole fracas. Shame on them! Shame on Kasaya!

I didn’t watch the match but i can say that our defence is currently not the best as much as our scoring rate has improved. We used to score one-nil wins since the defence was solid. We need to look at it since the next few matches are goona be tough and crucial. As much as we still stand a good chance we seriously need to ensure that we pick those wins so that with like two or three matches , the trophy will be home.

  • The first mistake was to play the game at Awendo as the stadium should not host Gor/Afc fans for security reasons. Second Sony players should have resumed play as required of them as the ball clearly bounced past the line b4 spinning back to the pitch. Sony know they’re facing relegation and they aren’t prepared for it. 5 minutes plus injury time of football is a long time and they surely risk losing the match which would have ended in a draw, hence a point for them. Kasaya should learn to control himself as professional players do. He rough on Jerry and abusive to the ref. All in all, Gor played like champions as Sony was also very strong especially after they decided to defend.

Both the referee Nasoor Ndoka and linesman Leonard Oyiego pointed to the centre, but the decision elicited an angry reaction from Sony players who insisted that the ball had not crossed the line.

The game was then stopped for 20 minutes as Sony players walked off the pitch while Gor Mahia fans jumped over the security wall and stormed the pitch.

The match was eventually abandoned when Sony players refused to go back to the pitch and even the addition of more security personnel did not normalise things.

OFFICIALLY ITS GAME OVER FOR SONY AFTER 85 MINUTES OF PLAY AND ZICO SHOWED HOW INCOMPETENT HE IS TO TWO BOBBY’S BY BEHAVING IN A DRUG-ADDICTED, SILLY ,STUPID,UNCOUTH AND BARBARIC MANNER.

@ P Mawego at what point did GOR fans invade the pitch?..!..
You are missing the point my friend…!! After waiting for 20 minutes and the final whistle is blown , do you expectour fans seat back pretty and watch SoNy fans, players and TB trying to touch our own?…MARK YOU..NOT FANS BUT “FOLLOWERS”.

It is only last week that SoNy was embarrassed during GoTv match and they though GM was small team to play to their theatrics. The Referee called off the match after 20 minutes of waiting. ZICO and his BOYS stood their ground off the pitch while GM and the referee waited for them. Our Fans invaded the pitch after the referee blew the final whistle to escort our players and match officials to safety after Kasaya attempted to hit both Jerry and referee. Despite all that “BASANGA” blamed “ZICO” and KSASYA; They are lucky “AWENDO-MIGORI RD was blocked.

Gor’s defender wonder boy “CALABAR” equalized with a “thunder-bolt” from 40 yards that bounced off the top post and past the goal-line before bouncing back to the field. And the goal was genuinely allowed.

Kasaya was well beaten and the pressure to succumb to a third goal was evident on both SoNy players and TB. A clever way avoiding the mysterious and obvious come back that EFUSI tested.

“GAME OVER FOR ZICO & SONY-RELEGATION–=-PAP”.

According to KPL rules, Sony stand a chance to forfeit the match after their fans forced referee Nasor Doka to call off the fixture with five minutes to play.

Gor Mahia are likely to be handed points after their opponents Sony Sugar caused the abandonment of Sunday’s Kenyan Premier League match at Awendo Green Stadium.

Sony Sugar players protested Gor Mahia’s second goal in the 85th minute after defender David Owino had scored to hand them a lifeline.

Fans of Sony Sugar poured onto the pitch immediately Owino had scored and made play impossible to continue and forced referee Nasor Doka to call off the fixture.

Sony players declined to continue with play claiming Owino had not crossed the line and forced Doka to call off the fixture. According to KPL rules, a team that causes the abandonment of a match automatically loses the fixture.

@The Trailer thank you for shedding light into this matter by your very objective narrative. Futaa.com and Michezoafrika have filed what apparently are conflicting reports on this matter and that leaves the likes of people like me who were not at the venue wallowing in a miasma of confusion.

I watched Kasaya misbehave and walk out on his teammates at Mbaraki against Bandari and I felt he is unprofessional and very childish. I am therefore not surprised by what I am reading here. I think he feels he is too big for a ‘small’ team like SoNy.

@ 21 Bachu, playing the game at Awendo was not a mistake. The ball did could could have crossed the line in that manner even in Kasarani. @ Mawego seems you are a Sony/ Ingwe fan. @Oswozo the ball crossed the line and the refs officially awarded it. Our fans did not invade the pitch it is the Sony players who refused to continue with the play, the game was ended then our fans entered the pitch. The rule states that Sony should be suspended for a period of time and Kasaya burned from both local and international football.

Its time GM’s tech bench looked clearly at the central defence and make appropriate changes either in personell or systems.

Surely sure no one will do their job for them and am not about to suggest even a little thing to them but the reality would dawn on them some day and i think its coming in good time. The central defense was boldly exposed in our first leg match against Ulinzi and some attempt was made at improving it but soon we reverted to what i would call ‘playing safe’.

Yes they’ve assisted with scoring goals but its imperative that we need a ‘defense’and avoid cover ups or pretense. That defense ‘éspecially central’ may need to be overhauled or adjusted its always under pressure against teams with strikers. That is my observation.

Guys why must people get into the pitch. I have different view on that. We must just runaway from these little unnecessary busybodying. Fans have no place at all in the playing pitch.

Remember we may just not get the three deserved points due from Sony causing abandonment and settle for one point from the simple fact that GM fans were in the pitch.

@ Tom Ochieng Okello, human lives are worth more than good attendance. I want to see you helping address security concerns at Gor matches. Why only Gor? Let us be honest with ourselves. If this happened at City or Kasarani and Gor was the one leading, there would be serious chaos. Some are now calling me Sony/Ingwe fan. They are acting like the EC whose response to Kasarani insident is a sign that things are not about to change at Gor. If fans misbehave, they must be tracked and dealt with. They must never get the kind of shielding they are getting from some quarters in this blog and the EC. In as much as Kasaya and Sony did the wrong thing, you dont fight fire with fire.

To solve this bad image tag that is being spread, we need to start being honest about things. If we are not careful, in future, wearing a Gor T-Shirt may earn you the tag of being a hooligan instantly.

@ Comrade P Mawego where is the issue of in-security at stake when SoNy as the HOME-TEAM in K’Ogalo backyard of AWENDO “Green Stadium” absconds from playing and later on attacks match officials and tries to extend the same approach to GOR players after the match is called off.

When KASAYA & ZICO had the guts to attack match officials and later on they try to storm on to K’Ogalo bench which sitting pretty cool and relaxed you expected fans to buy that?

ON THIS ONE I WILL BE PROUD TO BE BRANDED A HOOLIGAN IN GOR JERSEY THAN SIT BACK AND ENTERTAIN SONY MEDIOCRE BEHAVIOR.

ZICO was beaten with a right-hand blow to the ground .And by the way beating ZICO has been our routine ever since he was our coach when ever he tempts to behave in uncivilized manner.

THE STATEMENT THAT K’OGALO LEFT IN SONY SUGAR WAS STRAIGHT AND SQUARE AND EVEN THE SECURITY TEAMS ESCORTED THE TEAM PEACEFULLY FROM STADIUM TO AWENDO CONDEMNING SONY PLAYERS AND OFFICIALS SINCE THEY HAD NO FANS TO PROTECT THEIR EGO.Dawa Ya Moto ni Moto

O’Trailer, i think our colleague P.Mawego is trying to decry what kind of reaction you could’ve witnessed from GM ‘fans’ had we been in Sony’s shoes! Moreover Its not good for a distinguished personality like you to celebrate ‘right hand blows’ served in a football pitch! NO BROTHER NO! Its not long since our so called ‘fans’ threatened to beat a referee in our international match against ENNPI you can guess what consequences the choice of ‘right handed blows’ would have led to. I understand where Mawego stands. Lets get down to reality that anger is part of football but still no one must suffer bodily harm because we are angry. Invading pitch by fans is out of question. Purposely to mete any hand blows is abhorable! O’Trailer its upto you to regret your high pitch support for hand blows especially the right handed ones in football pitch!

I guess the truth is the victim in all these. By the way Zico is already playing the victim of a BIG CLUB syndrome. In that case many people, especially enemies of Gor will believe him. This just means that our next games will be scrutinized more than ever. That should not be a problem though and we therefore need to work extra harder. We all agreed on these blog that the next 8 or 9 games are going to be even tougher for the boys and fans. The faint-hearted had better stay away and watch on Tv. And those who cannot control their emotions might even cause the team the overall victory since complete restraint will be expected of us all
