Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards’ have written to KPL to be exempted from double headers insisting teams without fan base are taking advantage
By Otieno Otieno

Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards want the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) to exempt them from double headers insisting that other teams that do not have fans are taking advantage of them to increase their revenues.

The two clubs have experienced a massive increase in their revenues following a spate of good results and now command more than Sh1million in gate collections during home matches.

According to AFC Leopards acting Chief Executive Officer Richard Ekhalie, the club has already written to KPL to exempt them from double headers.

“We are being forced to share revenue with teams that do not have fans as a result we no longer wish to play in any double header,” Ekhalie told Goal.

He further said they have asked KPL to move all their home matches to Nyayo Stadium since this is what they registered as their home ground.

On his part, Gor Mahia Secretary General George Bwana says it is unfair for them to be forced to share revenues with clubs that cannot raise more than Sh20, 000 during home matches.

“When we raise Sh1million we have to give the other club 25% of it which comes to Sh250, 000. This is a club that has never raised more than Sh20, 000 during their home matches. It is not fair at all.”

Apart from being exempted from double headers, Bwana says the KPL should also consider the option of having teams involved in double headers be allowed to sell their own tickets and keep their own revenues instead of being forced to share.

When reached for comment, KPL CEO Jack Oguda confirmed recepit of the complain notes from the two giants but insisted the decision to host double headers is a policy of the company which can only be changed at a governing council meeting.

“If Leopards and Gor have a problem with double headers, they should raise it up in the governing council which approved it in the first place. In the meantime, it will stay that way,” he said.

  • Double headers are fine. The office needs to ensure we collect the maximum we can when it’s our home game.

I read all the previous comments after the Tusker game but i never saw any observation on the indiscipline that is creeping back into our camp. There is a boy called Kiongera who is exhibiting total indiscipline. He quarreled Mutiso until the lad couldn’t play anymore. Every game he either gets a card or gets close to a card. Why lie down in added time when we are fighting to win? What is the matter? What are you smoking?

He is not the only player who despises the referee, or gives the ref funny attitudes. Many of our players react to fan noises and get unruly. This is character unbecoming of champions to be.

Bwana Williamson, you need to nip this vice in the bud if we are to be champions.

  • Yes, Bwana but bloggers alerted you to this anomaly ages ago. I think even more than 1 year ago. Now with Jack’s rebuttal it will take another b4 its even acted upon. Assuming the the arrangement is costing GM kshs.200,000 per game on the lower side, and given than we’ve about 5 double headers every season that means that GM will lose kshs. 2m
Meanwhile the bloated office has not even paid off its ex-players.
The other question IS GMFC is paying 20% of its gate collections as stadium fees. While Mathare etc pay a flate rate of kshs.20,000.
BTW why now! Some may say better late than never BUT ITS OBVIOUS you’re trying to gain some mileage for the forth coming elections.
JUST GIVE OUT THE ELECTION DATE AND RULES AND WACHA KANU SYTLE SECRET WEAPON TACTICS.

LET’S GIVE TEAM LEGENDS A CHANCE I.E OBWAKA, LULE, SIANGA, MAKAMU IN A LEAN EC WITH A COMPETITIVELY EMPLOYED FULL TIME CEO AND FINANCE & ADMIN MANAGER

  • IF THE TEAMS DO NOT HAVE FANS IS THAT THE PROBLEM OF KFF/FKL/FKF ? OMERA THERE IS NO SHORT TERM SOLUTION, THE BIG TEAMS MUST BITE THE ‘DUST’ ..THE BEST SOLUTION IS TO DISSOLVE THE 16 LEAGUE FORMAT AND COME UP WITH A COUNTY LEAGUE FORMAT WHEREBY EACH COUNTY CONTRIBUTE A TEAM AND FIGHT FOR A SLOT ON THE PRPOSED…16 TEAM PREMIER LEAGUE !!!!!

The club may be spending on some other budget heads but i don’t think there is any reason whatsoever to refuse settling players’ dues. Even if you get so much in the home matches and you adults go on mistreating players to the extent that they can only speak anonymously!

The most pathetic part of it is when you still want to be re elected again and again!

By the way who advised them (EC) that if you pay salaries in envelopes you can easily evade tax? Its the club who must pay the un deducted taxes on salaries.

Its so unfortunate that all the years since the formation of this club people have maintained the culture of stealing and eating without any conscience to the extent that decency no longer matters and even caring a bit for core components of the club like these young players (even released players)is neglected.

    So sad.

As much as double headers are good for the neutral fan it’s not for the top two clubs. You get double for the same amount. What should be done is to get the statistics on how much this teams get per march and then give them the amount. The rest should go to either AFC or Gor, It’s that simple.
Why is City stars charging us 500/= for the sunday game yet for a tougher match against breweries we paid 200/=?

kasarani is the best stadi , so its just 200/= not 500/= otherwise , take money and not points !

If double headers are a must then let Gor n Ingwe be away teams, that way the two home teams can share the money on a 50/50 basis otherwise wanatuibia.

On 2moro’s matches hope u drop more points against giant killers of Kawangware and the Leopards takes maximum in Nakuru

@Bill your suggestion that the other teams be the home teams during double headers makes more sense since they will even get more money.
On the weekend matches our prayer is for a draw as you prayed on Wednesday and then we collect our three points and with that the mountain becomes more and more steeper for the chasing crowd, Ingwe included

  • Double headers-QUESTIONS 2 NGALA/TREASURER
1.On 30/7/13 for the saturday game against Karuturi, Ngala reported on Futaa.com that from the sale of 4,842 tickets kshs.1,297,500 was raised.VIP tickets were 1,097 raised 548,500 while terraces tickets were 4,440 raising 749,000.
2.On 29/7/13 for the SUNDAY game against Sofapaka, AFC’s CEO reported on Futaa.com that from the sale of 3,792 tickets kshs. 1,119,600 was raised.
    3. GM sold 1,050 more tickets than AFC but only realized kshs. 177,900 more

    Reply
  • 4.Now even if you assume that ALL the 1,050 more fans ALL paid for terrace tickets than since a terrace ticket is kshs.200 the difference in gate collections should have been at least kshs.210,000 i.e 1,050 tickets X kshs.200. A discrepancy of kshs.32,100!
    5. Ngala’s figures for the tickets available were also very strange figures-VIP 1,798 & Terraces 4,440. AFC’s CEO stated that they printed 10,000 tickets.
    6. It may be my imagination but to me the GM crowd was at least 2 times that of AFC.

@Bill Wabz you are right that that Kawangware team is a giant killer. The question is: giant killers of which giant? Definitely not Gor Mahia. Then if not Gor Mahia then which other giant? The answer is obvious….!

Teams without fans should only earn as guided by the statistics of collections from their past home matches.

    7. Ngala uses a very strange term in his report i.e “tickets available” which he gives as VIP 1,798 & Terraces 4,440 which gives a total of 6,238. Strange term, stranger figures.
    8. The silence of the treasurer & his deputy is really deafening given these financial inaccuries & weaknesses e.g cash envelope saga.

Terrace tickets sold was as per Ngala 3,745 raising 749,000 and 4,440 was the terrace tickets “available”

Guys aas we castigate our weak link which is the EC let’s remember that the Ingwe match was charged at 300/= bob while the Gor match was 200/=. But without taking anything away from the bloggers we still have a BIG leakage at the gates and ticketing in general. The security/ticketing team is doing their best but not our side. With this money we could more or less compensate for the low salaries by having adequate winning bonuses for the players. After all even at our places of work the bonuses have more positive effect than even the normal salary which after some time becomes ‘inadequate’

  • The charges for GM were 500 for VIP stand and 200 for terraces. As usual VIP was packed to almost full capacity yet only tickets for half the capacity were sold.
The lack of structures at GM is not inadvertent or due to inability IT IS DELIBERATE.
A former player is less likely to not pay a player for several months and deny him his only source of livelihood.
LETS GIVE TEAM LEGENDS A CHANCE THEY ARE LESS LIKELY TO BE STONE HEARTED. AVOID UNKNOWNS OPT FOR THE LIKES OF OBWAKA, LULE, SIANGA, ETC

  • Yes Ingwe were charging 300 but this flat while Gor were charging 500 for main stand and 200 for terrace. We must agree that Ingwe are more organized than Gor when it comes to management. Moreover, many comments are issued by their Chairman,Secretary or Club CEO unlike Gor but i must comment Ngala for Shutting up.

From todays TPL results we have to work extra hard for the remaining games. This issue of winning but after a real struggle is not good for the team. Some of the teams that Ingwe has played against and won are some of our bogey teams. We will need to dig deeper and beat them. We have to ensure that we collect as many points as we can from the team classified as ‘minnows’ though we know very well that there are no minnows in the league anymore. @Bill Wabz congrats for the win and tomorrow we want to set the status quo again

  • It is very unfortunate that the players are also celebrating the so called, “Gini wasekawo term”, we shall be shocked just like last season that players celebrated before the last whistle. My advise to our beloved players, control yourself to the last day and you’ll make us proud. To kiongera, discipline is the key to success as far as I know. Copy David rudisha, no sideshows. Congrats Mosoti for effort but you are also not spared on indiscipline. Boys make the best of this great chance to play for team kubwa.

Gor Mahia’s main undoing is the stupid gini wasekao slogan and it is this mindset that will see K’Ogalo not winning this league. It was evident in the match against City Stars that even the players have that belief. Topping the table with 12 matches to go does not translate to winning the league. We have lost 2 valuable points to team that really had no ready answers to our game plan. Gor Mahia will not win this league if we continue being wasteful and less serious in front of goal. Another prediction: our next match against Muhoroni will be another goalless draw; and finally RM Kiongera will collect his 5th yellow card in that match and that will see him suspended in our match against Efusi.
