Gor Mahia Conduct Western Stima

Lavatsa in action against Western Stima

In a tense duel held at the Nairobi City Stadium, Kogalo subdued Western Stima 1-0. The all important goal came via new signing, Edwin Lavatsa who latched onto a Kevin Omondi cross to score with an unorthodox backheel, a goal reminiscent of Algerian Legend Rabah Madjer scoring the winning goal to lead Porto to the European championship. The goal was set up by Collins Okoth whose menacing run and through ball freed up Kevin Omondi who in turn set up Lavatsa for the goal.

Gor Mahia will however have to thank keeper Jerim Onyango who made a series of daring saves to thwart Western Stima who played an excellent game.  For Lavatsa, it was the culmination of the potential he has shown since he joined the club during the off-season.

  • It was a wonderful goal. This lad will be the new pillar in Gor Mahia this season. He is a joy to watch with his dribbling and work rate.

  • Scrappy game from Gor,lucky win but at least we won. The technical bench is suspect. The midfield was non existent (apart from Collins who played his heart out)This led to the WS dominating the game and overloading the defence while our strikers were starved. We cannot continue this way.Bring back the carpet football and creative midfield of yesteryears. You saw how WS were contained when Kitawi came in. Man of the match for me Collins & K’galo fans.

Kwa midfield kuna shida kubwa. Akumu in the second half was non existent and making so many errors. the strikers still are not working well as u noticed so many nice moves died when the strikers did not open or follow up the passes made. To zico please give us the team news Moses odhiambo got injured how is he doing coz the match yesterday wanted a controller of the ball and he would have done well. Second half generally the boys were too tired and that’s why the pressure by stima nearly produced equalizers.

Yes we won the points but did we win the game? NOOOOO!!!!That is what you call luck, nothing but luck. If thats how the team is going to play this season then I have reason to be afraid, very afraid indeed for what lies ahead.Where is the traditional flowing game Kogalo is adored for? Who will score the goals? Who will hold the defence against lethal attacks from Sofapaka, Tusker, Leopards etc.For the first time I felt that there is something not adding up in the team. How did we recruit in the off season, just posing an innocent question?

  • our bench was very thin, MACHEDA and KIP were missing these guyz can keep the ball upfront as they terrorise opponents and leave the mid and defence to move the ball. That is the best result we would have had.

Wekesa is still rusty he is not 100% fit

The other concern is that Masika and Mohamed a tackling really had and they can end up with knocks which can keep them out – I hope this does not happen.

Otherwise man of the match – Lavatsa call him “LOVE” with that pleasant backhill

  • Though we won the match, our game wasn’t that much impressive. The coach should do something as well as leaving coaching Harambee stars.Otherwise kudos to Lavatsa
