Gor Mahia destroy Muhoroni

courtesy of michezoafrika.com
League leaders Gor Mahia widened the gap at the top of the Tusker Premier Log to eight points with a deserved 3-0 win over Muhoroni Youth at City Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The boys in green showed early intent. Moses Odhiambo had the first real chance in the 17th minute. From a long cross, he controlled the ball well but his final loop was punched by the keeper. In the next move, Odhiambo turned provider to Kevin Omondi who was tackled by a Muhoroni defender before shooting.

In the 26th minute, Muhoroni almost took the lead when Jeremiah Wanjala found space then unleashed a left foot shot that had keeper Jerim Onyango beaten but the crossbar stood between.

The action quickly shifted to the other end where Kevin Omondi , in the 27th minute, missed an inviting chance to score after a perfect cross by Innocent Mutiso.

Gor then won a free kick that Kevin Omondi executed well but the keeper punched then Eric Ochieng followed up to force a successive save from keeper Shaban Ouma.

Seven minutes to the break, Kevin Omondi redeemed himself from the earlier misses with a close range opener from a rebound after the keeper had blocked Mungai Kiongera header.

A minute to the break, Kiongera’s free kick punched out for a corner by keeper Ouma. The low corner taken by Mutiso was easily cleared.

Immediately after the break, Kevin Omondi set up Innocent Mutiso but the latter was guilty of side netting.

Muhoroni Coach Imonje then decided to inject some creativity in his midfield by replacing Paul Mboya with James Maina.

But it was Gor Mahia who continued to threaten. In the 54th minute, a harmless move almost turned dangerous when Kevin Omondi forced a ffine save on the near post.

Ugandan Dan Sserunkuma came on for Kevin Omondi in the 63rd minute to a warm from the reception from the partisan crowd.

With the heavens opened up, Gor Mahia, buoyed by thousands of fans won a corner in the 67th minute that Israel Emuge rose higher to head in and double the lead.

Four minutes later, Paul Mungai Kiongera would close the scoring chapter with a calmly taken shot off a Moses Odhiambo cross. The goal ignited calls for Gor Mahia’s arch-rivals and next opponents AFC Leopards who are also enjoying fine form.

The win pushes Gor Mahia’s tally to 40 points, 8 better than second placed Thika United after 20 matches.

Muhoroni on the other hand are just two spots above relegation with 23 points from 21 matches.

  • My question to G. Bwana is:- we signed 7 players in June, right? Apart from Paul Odhiambo, Oboya, Eric and Bataro , where are the other 3 players? Why did we sign players we were not going to use? Bob Williamson deserves our Congratulations because he has proved my point- the difference between a good coach and a great coach. The continuous fielding of Mutiso and Israel proves this. The rotation of the 3 lungs of the team- Pablo, Eric and Vieira and the resting Dube until he was properly recovered was a masterstroke. Dube is re energised and is once again running purposefully for the team. The coach doesn’t depend on big names, hype or form. He works with the players available for selection. We didn’t miss Lavatsa and Rama today or did we? He will transform this team completely if he is given a free hand to mould the team to his liking. Eric Ochieng the CONDUCTOR deserves a special mention for the seamless and effortless way he has slotted into our team. He is able to play either beside Vieira or Pablo in any formation. He is the brain of the team in the absence of Rama. Pinchez is long forgotten in our memory. I cannot wait for Sunday when Eric will prove this point. The boy just glides on the pitch spreading passes and launching attacks upon attacks against the opponent.. We welcome Dube back to the starting eleven. The team has greatly missed your industry and grit in the midfield. Pablo and Lavatsa must work really hard to displace you and Vieira from the starting eleven. Mosoti, Israel, Callabar and Nasio also called the heart of the team have formed a rock solid defence and the coach can do no wrong in sticking wth this same combination week in week out. This is an immovable rock of a defence, and on this partnership we shall win the KPL title. Mosoti’s no nonsense approach to defending has been tempered by the silky defending of both Callabar and Israel, no wonder we do not concede many goals, penalties or free kicks in dangerous areas. The dependable and reliable Jerry deserves to lift the KPL title come November 2013. Only 8 goals conceded in 20 KPL matches is a record worth shouting about!! Since Danny is Back, I would like to urge BW and JBO to start him along side Kiongera as our front 2 against Efusi on Sunday the 25-8-13. Danny ndio dawa ya Efusi and I know he will score against them if fielded. While we should keep the same bench as today, Kevo should drop to the bench for Danny to start. He will be driven and motivated to keep his record of scoring against Efusi in every match he plays against them. I still believe our strong bench is the reason why we will win the KPL title. We still have Mapunda, Bataro, Wekesa, Musa, Anguyo, D. Otieno, Oboya, Pablo, A. Gathu , Wanyonyi and P. Odhiambo to call on, all potential National Team Players.

@6 lapastre, Is George Bwana the coach of Gor Mahia.or u must just blame Bwana 4r everything. We have the best TB in this league & they r the ones mandated to choose the players.or u want Bwana to tell Sir Bobby williamson on who to field in which match. Those days r gone when the EC was dictating on the TB.It si the work of players to impress the coach to give them playing time allover the world.eg Musa mohamed is good but according to BW Nasio is better in that position than Musa.

  • The league is very tight and every point counts and more so a win. Every goal scored will have an impact. Puting three past the sturbon Muhoroni is a big step. Not conceeding a single goal makes it even better. Fans should give the team all the surport. The chaotic fans should keep off the stadium so that we have peace irrespective of any outcome. Let us pray that we beat Mashemeji, Tusker, Sofapaka Thika and Ulinzi as those are the hardest matches we still have to deal with.

    Well done, Karibu Nyumbani Dan”Flava”.
Does Dube & Love-A-Star suffer from the curse of “being unable to score”?
You see they will do everything right, even win the man of match awards but regularly miss obvious chances which makes their scoring rate pathetic.

Also the other key source of income 4 GM is gate collections. Its a BIG misconception (peddled by sycophants) that GM depends on personal finances of an official. What i heard during the AGM is that AR advanced the club some monies which was later refunded frm gate collections. Note that branches also make contributions 2 GM.

  • After twice watching yesterday’s match on TV, I want to point out the following tactical and technical weaknesses tht I observed.

    GOAL KICKS, HEADERS AND CROSSES

    1. Is Jerry becoming complacent or just a rare Case of a bad Day in the office!! I counted more than four CASES in the 2nd half where he needlessly took quick goal kicks to no one in particular. In one occasion the coach had to instruct him to always take his time before throwing or taking the goal kicks. Though quick transition is good, but when you are not chasing the game (in the lead) , you should always strive to set and control the tempo of the game.
    2. How many headed goals have our strikers scored? If very few then why? Why are our strikers never using their heads to score goals?
    3. Is it because our wingers never bring in enough crosses? If yes, then is it because of ineptitudness? Are our wingers not trained to bring in enough Crosses into the box for our strikers to attack?. Are our coaches the ones lacking in this area? Its important tht coaches concentrate on imparting new skills to the players continuously. The coaches MUST start to teach our players the art of using wing play and delivery of crosses into the box. It doesn’t have to be our defenders (Nasio and Callabar) to do this. Kevo and Mutiso must realise tht they should always endeavour to do this whenever they play out wide. Our first goal against Muhoroni yesterday came courtesy of a Nasio cross into the box. Kiongera would have scored if he had honed his heading skills. He chose the Guarded near post instead of sending the ball back across to the far post. Reason: inexperience and lack of heading skills. I hope the coaches are listening and reading this. Thank you for reading and implementing the proposals.

Congrats to the boys. I mentioned on this blog that no player is indispensable. I did not notice any gap left by Rama. Let us forget about those who have left and move on. Lugarasic left and now we have even a better coach if the kind of soccer we now play is anything to go by. The team is really playing some very purposeful football, only finishing needs to be polished. We lost too many clean chances.

@La Pastre, r u a coach bcos if u r then u will know that a coaches work is not to play.playing is the work of a player using his talent to kick the ball, score with the appropriate part of his body at the time he (player ) feels is right. & If u r a coach, will also know that when u r playing 4.4.2 it does not mean that players r stationed in there positions to wait for the ball but it is a team work done depending on the coaches instuctions. Have u asked y defenders can only score thru’ the heads.

We played like bayern munich, we played like real madrid, we played like barcelona, we played like man utd.We played like true champions, real champions!
Even at three up, we were still pressing up, and pinning them down on their half, hungry for more.We should be this ruthless!, whoever has seen fiji or new zealand crush opponents in rugby sevens, will know what I mean. You annihilate your opponent TOTALLY.
If we continue playing, the way we played yesterday the fear factor will be instilled even on the bigger boys I.e ingwe, paka, thika, tusker, ulinzi.

My only plea is to us, fans, bloggers included, to also carry ourselves with some measures of consistency and good sportsmanship.Reading comments here after our match againts city stars, I was shocked and disgusted to read some fellows’ s comments. It was as if we had just dropped 50 points from that particular match, with players being castigated, I remember someone calling kevo (who apparently was the best player in my opinion and other bloggers opinions)names, and saying that he is not fit to be in gor mahia.Mungai kiongera, lavatsa and erick ochieng also got their fair shares of matusis in this forumn. And so it came as a relief when our own battle-hardened and maverick blogger ogango trailer told the castigators off and returned fire with fire!

Its good to criticise, but lets be reasonable, objective and realistic when offering advice, and criticising the team.I wonder if some people even read their comments after just one week!

To paraphrase the late Mutula Kilonzo, if it quacks like a duck, walks like a duck, eats like a duck and lays eggs like a duck then it is a duck. Erick Ochieng’ whom many were pessimistic about at the time of his signing (with the exception of Albert Kosero and a few others), is emerging to be the John Okelo Zangi of our time. He is steadily re-enacting the late “engines'” moves. Perfect in mobility, deft touches, good ball control, behind every move and an eye for goal. It just cannot get better.

  • Michael # 17 yes I am. I have learnt my trade very well and from legendary trainers. From the Dutch school of total football, the famous KNVB is where I did my badges. Thts why I would take my time to critically analyse a match before blogging. This is better thn being a sitting duck- always sitting there, clueless and oblivious of the impending dangers. Just ask Matano or David May, a former Man Utd player how painful it feels when you are finally found out because of your inadequate and average tactics or talent. Coaches are hired to oversee the smooth running of the club’s activities both in and out of the field. It is his responsibility to draw a marker on the dos and donts. And ofcourse having watched most of our matches, its just in order to remind the players of the coaches’ instructions, and they Are many, including giving of crosses into the opponents’ box. Its a shame tht one would defend our LACK of aerial prowess and inability to make telling crosses on the flimsy ground tht the coaches are not a players!! Why then do we have countless sessions of wingers putting in crosses and defenders having to defend against strikers?? Those wth understanding will usually benefit from these timely and critical analysis and make the needed adjustments. Its the legendary Joe Kadenge who once said that: – just put the ball into the net using any part of your body provided you don’t use your hand or any other illegal means. JBO and BW are wise coaches /men and they will act on some of these recommendations.

@ La Pastre I agree with u in ua observation but what I dont agree with u is that when a defender execute a cross it does not mean that no.7 & no 11 have forgoten there work but it is just the strategy of the coach for wing backs to overlap & help in the attack. K’ogalo forever

Congratulations to the team and I believe you also believe we can this time. My only worry is how impatient our so called fans can be. The first 10 or so minutes they were already calling for substitution for K14 and his only sin is that he missed scoring on two occasions. Others have thrown insults at Eric Ochieng but what do you see now? Others called Dube old and good for nothing but what did you see on Saturday? Some said Emuge is too heavy and slow but what are you seeing now; yet others are all the time yelling at Kiongera as being useless but I believe there is none to compare with him in front of goal in the current league. Some were already shouting insults at both Bobbys, how they don’t read the game but they do.Let us be patient all the time, that way the boys will be encouraged and do even more. Then at the end of the season we can talk of gini is marwa.

My view is that both sides are equally guilty, nay are just expressing their views.
I.e those who castigated the team at a few bad results as well as those who lavish praise on the team on the basis of a single good outing. All is acceptable though as the views make interesting reading, and most have worthy point or two if you read them without emotion.

I think unless the EC corks up real big the TB & players have wrapped up the league but lets build & retain a stable team 4 CECAFA/CAF.

@23 I agree with u.the enemies of Gor mahia r his fans who do not support players from the stands. What they do is throwing insults at players whenever a player has not done what they think he should do.1 thing they dont know is that playing soccer is not like eating or reading a sentence but only those who r talented r the ones who can play. some of these fans cant even score a penalty without the goalkeeper in goal & they r the ones who thinks that a play is not worth playing 4r gor.K’ogalo forever.

  • As fans let’s be consistent in supporting the team. It’s very easy to be an armchair coach. Why celebrate the same person you were castigating a few munites ago. The truth is that we play some games badly but hopefully get the 20 points to emerge winners. As of now Ulinzi also seems to be on a cruise. Since it”s the last game we need to make it a formality with them preparing the guard of honour for us as champs. But before that we have still got great games. Like ManU last year we need to win against the so-called minnows so that any result against the other top contenders will not change anything but be a bonus.

  • @michael odhiambo that observation is very right. I have gotten into problems with fans who abuse players when they make mistakes. Who is perfect anyway and doesn’t have a bad day? The irony is that it’s these fans who celebrate the goals by these same players and dance all the way to town. As someone who knows something about playing I know that those players are giving their best

  • Could we take advantage of confusion at AFC camp and Tusker F.C to win the title?! . . . .yesterday I was in Nairobi West with some Ingwe fans and they are scared of the Mighty Kogallo, though they would not openly declare, and it is amazing that they are after Logarusic!

As Gor fans, let us exercise tolerance and patience in the next 10 league matches, we have missed the league by a whiskerin 2 occasions since 2007, and this time round, we shall not blink if we support the guys and disengage from village politics, . .c.c Pod Antie, and the many Gor lovers.

Everything remaining constant the league is “MARWA”. Out of the remaining 10 matches we only need 6 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses(God Forbids) which is very possible starting Sunday 25th August 2013.Lets pray factors remain constant.

I am happy we won congrats, but am really worried with the scoring touch of some of our players very wasteful in deed.In the TPL the team that scores first in most occasions will most likely win the match,so our strikers and the TB must work hard so that we can improve on taking opportunities in the goal mouth area.

@ # 28 Comrade Ochigah; OGANGO TRAILER would like to differ with your post above and oblige to you that beating AFC on Sunday is the easiest of all the remaining fixture for K’ogalo. We just need mental strength, concentration and self believe.

THIS IS THE EASIEST DERBY. THE GUYS ARE TRAILING BADLY.

AFC are the ones under pressure and in such circumstances GOR will hit THEM with easy goals especially if the match is hosted in an “EMPTY STADIUM” where most of our over demanding fans will be absent from interfering with the game plan and strategy.

  • I was delighted at what I saw on Saturday. The team gave their best and they deserve affirmation. If we can also play our part during the matches and not spend time looking at the mistakes player make on the pitch and thus become tense to the point of making substitution signs on the first minute, we can all make a great fun club that would welcome other people to come watch Kogalo and that means more money to the Club. Congratulations to all Kogalo funs

Congrats boys. I know the pressure will be building as we approach game zero. As fans we need to give the support and not demoralise players by the substitution signs. Those players are actually giving their best and let’s know that sooner or later the tension will be on GM and not the chasing pack in case they realize that the gap is too much and all they can do is to frustrate us
