Gor Mahia edge Stima in FKF cup

courtesy of michezoafrika.com

Gor Mahia edged out  Western Stima  in post-match penalties in an FKF Cup pre-quarters match played at City Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The match ended  1-1 during normal regulation time.Keeper Ivo Mapunda saved one of the shots to push Gor Mahia to the next stage on a 5-4 win.

Gor Mahia got off to a good start when Moses Otieno’s well taken free kick beat Western Stima keeper in the 6th minute. The powermen would have equalized immediately  but Ali Bhai’s  long range shot  that beat Mapunda was denied by the crossbar.

At the half hour mark, St. Anthony alumni Ali Bhai headed in the equalizer from Muhako’s free kick to silence the green army.

The remaining part of the first half was end-to-end action .First Alloys Mangi had a great chance to put Stima in the lead but his shot went wide. Gor Mahia’s Kevin Omondi also squandered a great opportunity to ensure the teams went to the break tied at 1-1.

Coach Logarusic brought in Ivan Anguyo for Nicholas Ochieng at the beginning of the second half but this had no immediate effect as it was Western Stima who should have doubled the lead after a swift counter attack but Ezekiel Kemboi’s low shot was an easy collection for Mapunda.

Logarusic finished his subs when Dan Sserunkuma and Moses Odhiambo came in for Itubu Imbem and Kevin Ochieng respectively. To counter this, Western Stima also effected double substitution. Ten minutes later. Mark Sirengo and Job Omuse replaced Ali Bhai and Wesley Kemboi respectively.

Twenty minutes to the end, Gor Mahia’s missiles were met with equal resistance by the Western Stima defense well marshaled by David Otieno. Edwin Lavatsa’s shot from inside the box in the 77th minute went over the bar.

Fred Shimoyo, Mark Sirengo, Alloys Mangi  and Job Omuse  all scored for Western Stima while Kevin Otieno’s shot was saved by Mapunda .Ivan  Anguyo,Moses Ohiambo , Kevin Omondi,Donald Mosoti  and Dan Sserunkuma found the target for Gor Mahia.

Just as i had predicted a tough match. This was not going to be an easy duty for gor. W. Stima is one of the best teams in KPL, and our boys realy worked hard to contain them. Congra! we are proud of you. God bless Kogalo.

Kudos to the boys for continuing the win streak. We need to go back to continental and atone for the fiasco that was 2012.
On another note. We need a break. When will KPL give our players some rest ?

  • Congrats. We acknowledge that playing three matches every week takes the edge out of the players but the winning mentality has to be maintained. At times we will play badly and win and that’s what defines champions. We need the six points against Ulinzi and Sony then we can enjoy the two weeks rest before we meet Ingwe with a fresh team

In a post-match interview by supersport after the Oserian game, Sir Bobby was asked whether he wants to win the league. In answer, JBO paused and then said, “I want to win the next match”.

That to me is a powerful statement which should be our rallying call as players, technical bench, EC, supporters and fans. Our collective effort can enable us win ‘THE NEXT MATCH’.

Guys I know that Congo gave us Rama and it is our community club down here , but my silent prayer this afternoon is that Ogwang’ wins and advances to the next round.
REASON: so that they can continue having an equal measure of fatigue during this crucial phase of the league.

    Reply
  • @Barefoot and they won though it’s reported that the kids really ran circles around them. They next meet Sofapaka. Not an easy match by any standards. We also meet the winner between Muhoroni and Homeboyz and the problem is the attitude we have against these ‘small’ teams

We missed three clear chances but I’m happy we have advanced to the next stage. It is now very clear that we should not underrate any team. Imagine if Western Stima beat us yesterday what embarrassment it could have been! The way the defense played apart from Wekesa was not by any standard acceptable. Now let us focus on our Wednesday match (KPL.

Did you notice that Gor collected more money on an afternoon weekday game than you collected on a Sunday afternoon. Please put your money where your mouth is. The day EK will tighten his strings you will find it hard to survive. On Wednesday we will beat Ulinzi and then teremsha it with Sony over the weekend then we wait for you. I’m really bothered why the AFC fans are pork-nosing in this site and want to speak impossibilities. Remember the penalt you got against CITY STARS and the many narrow one-nil wins you had consecutively yet GM does not focus on these. Just a request @15, 19 – because you believe that this is your time to take the league(AFC) why cant you focus your energies on exactly that and remember we will still meet both in FKL & KPL then you can prove your point if GM is the team to beat or not. @Kenyatta, I watched Ulinzi play Tusker, the match was very dull and compared to a rural primary school game. I just wonder what Ulinzi thinks when they play Gor cos the mission is always to injure and play rough and very physical match.
In football it is not easy to predict but they should not play as if they are paid to kill.

THE NIGHT OF LONG KNIVES series is finally here. this is where the league positions are about to change. GOR IS TAKING THE LEAGUE. to you afc fans, c what happens on wednesday then on the match betwn u guys and breweries. then label it as night 1; i will be informing you about night 2 soon. gor, battle with what you have fatigued or not. u have the support and mettle so move on. talk about fatigue is mere whinning, nobody expects 100% fitness all the time, so will you just move on and do what you can do. needless to say ulinzi was also in the f8 final with you, is playing the league and fkf.the rest of the teams are also in fkf cup and the league, so why is it’s only gor that is tired.gor pls move on, we know u want to capture the league and the fkf cup; it’s not cast on stone that u have to. play ur game and enjoy… coach logs is relatively new in office, personally i will judge him after one yr onwards(read nxt season), what he is doing now is just bonus. if he captures the league (as i expect) sawa, if not life continues. but i expect the league to be captured more on the other teams making mistakes than of gor having matured. i thnk gor squad still needs some strategic recruitments before being unlished for africa.so even if you don’t take the league and fkf cup…SAWA.

@Dinga, I have read your posting with reservations. Due to fatigue, Ulinzi were knocked out by Sofapaka in FKF Cup.

Please note that players are human beings that require adequate rest just like machines which are closed down for maintenance. Mental relaxation is very important ingredient for better performance. Football requires both mental and physical rest for the overall performance to been effective.

Gor Mahia has not rested adequately and the impact of this can be seen in recurring injuries and slow body movements. Gor Mahia is the only team that has played very many games both weekends and weekdays and this trend is worrying.

In this regard of many fixtures, where is KPL running to? Players need rest.

Kwani do we set to tell the K14, M25, Jerry, ss8,Love a star, Teddy, Nasio, Rama,Wekesa, Dave, Itubu and the rest of our players that Mpira hudunda or we only tell them we want a win and only that! No guys, it is imperative that we cheer them in the quest for victory. Period.

We will win on Wednesday and Sunday. That doesn’t mean the games will be easy no. We will win coz we work for it from the players to everyone in the family no wonder FKF have shamelessly plotted to overcharge our fans for the passion we have for our team.

As well said by Mwakio@28, it seems like Gor is the only team that plays as if our boys use electricity. Too many fixtures and yet other teams can afford to push their matches ahead when they think they are down. But let me assure you that God never sleeps.

@mwakio: what i’m saying is that there is nothing wrong with fatigue. if teams know that they will get fatigued to play then the best thing is the team physicians to give directions into how many matches ‘kenyan players’ can handle in a year. why the term kenyan players? how many games do the european teams play in one yr, yet these are the teams we want to play in the world cup! and this is the reason i deliberatley use the term whininnig. didn’t gor or ulinzi know about the league, fkf et f8 cup before the year started? and if so didn’t they have the desire to win these competitions and third they must have then counted how many matches they would play in case they were to win . so if gor or ulinzi went into the competition with 25 players, are you then saying they did not know what they were doing? the coach has said he plans to take all titles…is he lying? what i’m saying is that with 25 players , fatigue was bound to happen(if u intend to win 3 titles). telling us we are tired does not help. either u play and enjoy ur matches (fatigue et all) or stop over-using players, there is nothing more dangerous to a player like playing while tired. FOR NOW, my belief is that a winning unit is still being molded.i’ve seen gor win e and central, league(20 teams), moi golden(now fkf) and madela cup all in one bila whinning. what i’m saying here is that there was very good recruitment, something which is yet to be done currently, if we seriously want to go and challenge africa. at this moment i would like to see a superior technical gor than a gor that rushes to win titles. let us have eg. midenyo and mwapunda(and the rest who are complaining of playing time) leading the fkf challenge.it’s ironical if some players complain of fatigue and some of playing time! NOW IS THE time to know who is who coz coming nxt yr fans will expect different… long story short, we need subs who can effectively replace first choice players and fit into the technical game like a glove…when gor zamalek was banned gor khartoum still worked wonders and got mandela cup.
N.B:the names used are for illustration purposes.

    I enjoy this brain-storming session.

@32 Dinga – somehow I agree with you about playing time for some players and fatigue for others. As much as we want all players to be effective and be given equal chance, it has become practically impossible to achieve this and a risk to our winning ways. You saw last weekend when about 7 players were rested and ‘new players’ introduced; same to when we played with Barabu chief…etc. I think if we can get very good 25 players then we will conquer Africa but with current squad only about 9 players are effective and consistent.

  • COMRADE KENYATTA AND DISI: MOST WELCOME ABOARD BUT OBSERVE SITE CODE

I have also singled the two guys since they are only ones who have openly declared themselves as staunch AFC Leopards ( or did I hear somebody say efusi?) fans. From my residence at Kaputiei, i join my colleagues to welcome all visitors and their contributions but must observe strict site unwritten code.

I know afew of us may always want to extend the rivalry between Ingwe and K’Ogalo here but even as you do so, maintain some decorum and decency. On la light note, I have all along held the view that if both clubs find their way to heaven, they’ll still find something to quarell about! There is nothing wrong for comrade Kenyatta and Disi to barbs at us, except it should not be personal, abusive or demeaning to any individual or club.

Comrade Kenyatta and Disi can therefore enjoy blogging but rest assured that they can never beat K’Ogalo fans in their own game. The kind of ego held by K’Ogao fans cannot be easily tamed. It will be an exercise in futility to try to raise a debate of who is sharper than the other.

For those of you who come from Kajiado north constituency, the campaigns are jotting up as D-day approaches. I urge you to turn up in large numbers and elect a candidate of your choice. This is one of your primary civic duty you cannot afford to miss.

haaaaa, listen to muhoroni, ulinzi et w.stima; all these funny clubs have one thing in common. they only play football when they are to face gormahia. i thnk guys ; if an analysis is done u will find that gor is playing the most difficult matches with every game(and this can be seen on the players tiredness). ulinzi will be walloped with any other team like chemelil but when it comes to gor, all of a sudden they are awake. same to stima and now muhoroni. now the coaches are all over how they will put up a fight against gor. the question then is why is this? do the coaches hate gor that much that gor becomes the team to beat. the answer is NO but this i thnk is the reason; it’s when ur playing gor that u get the most publicity. these players and coaches have come to know this is when ur name reverberates around kenya. players psychologically play better in a full stadium than on an empty stadium. hence ulinzi or stima will play better football infront of a crowd hence giving gor a harder time and as have said before the gor player will run harder in every match and this is why the gor player will tire faster. this is just an hypothesis i have come up with, i don’t know what u guys think about it.i am also basing this in the league of before where then kenya breweries always seemed to be the gor and afc boogie team. hence always breweries came to be known as perenial underachievers. they kud wallop gor and afc 3nil etc but when it came to taking the league they always flopped despite matching the two great clubs in evry department.
N:b afc fans pls note that i have refrred to afc as a great club, lakini musizoeeee sana. league bado hamuoni.

  • I like the analysis and hypothetical reasoning on the effect of either too many or too few games on the performance of the team or players. We have actually been a victim of too many games but unfortunately there is nowhere we can complain. Even the fans have to rediscover their passion as too many wins is getting into their system and killing their cheering attitude. But let’s not give up. We need the two wins tomorrow and Sunday and the pressure on the leading teams will be too much for the. The goodness is that all the leading teams have to play against each other and this means that some points must be lost. So in case we scrape through this weekend then we will stand the best chance of pulling an upset

Yaani “MIND GAMES” put side and no fires at all cost be it the very “friendly or foe”; then our chances depend on us beating the likes of ULINZI,SONY and AFC, and next we deal with TUSKER and THIKA mercilessly.

Your biggest undoing is that you have very tricky trips to make toward sugar-belt zones of “CHEMO and MUHORONI and believe me not it is not a walk in the park. Uliza ULINZI. But all the same good luck god willing.

  • On who the title is to lose I basically think it’s nobody’s for now. Even @Disi, @Omusula and @Bill Wabz know that Ingwe’s chance of clinching the league is as wide as that of Thika United (no pun intended). Playing Tusker, Chemo, Ulinzi, Oserian leave alone Gor is no mean feat for any team. This coupled by the fact that they are leading the log is even worse. I see either Ulinzi, Gor or Thika sneaking from behind with no tension and taking this league. Tusker has to play Ulinzi, Sofa and Gor and these are no easy matches. Even us as Gor we have Tusker,AFC and Ulinzi and these are no easy matches, not forgetting Rangers, Sher, Muho and Sony. But since God is currently highlighting our team and we win even when down I can see some light at the end of this campaign. Still wondering why Ingwe was made to avoid Sofapaka in the Q4 of the FKF cup. What if they were to meet in the final? What would happen?
