Gor Mahia attacker Jacques Tuyisenge made a dream debut for the Kenyan giants as he scored one and assisted another as Gor Mahia thrashed Kakamega Homeboyz 3-0 in a Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match played on Saturday 2 April in Mumias to register their first win of the season. Enock Agwanda, Tuyisenge and Jacob Keli did the job for new coach Jose ‘Ze Maria’ Fereira.

The champions took the lead in the first minute through Enock Agwanda, who smashed into the back of the net after being put through by debutant Jacques Tuyisenge. The Rwandan squandered a great opportunity to get on the score-sheet minutes later shooting wide while through on goal.

Homeboyz chances

Homeboyz slowly grew into the game towards the quarter hour mark pressing for an equalizer but Gor remained solid at the back denying skipper Martin Imbalambala and Andrew Kulecho in quick succession. The hosts made an early change hauling off former Muhoroni Youth midfielder Mike Khaduli for 2015 FKF Premier League top scorer, Keiphas Baraza in search of an equalizer.

Tuyisenge has a chance to double Gor’s lead at the half hour mark but the attacker shot wide while clear on goal after receiving a precise pass from Karim Nizigiyimana on the right. The teams left for a breather with Gor having a goal advantage.

Tuyisenge goal

Two minutes after the restart, Tuyisenge introduced himself to Gor Mahia faithful, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to double the visitors’ advantage and put Gor on course of their maiden win of the season. Substitute Francis Kahata nearly got on the score-sheet at the hour mark but Philip Odhiambo on Homeboyz goal did well to deny him on a one on one situation.

3-0

Gor dominated proceedings thereafter with Tuyisenge twice coming close to grabbing his second but was denied on both occasions by resolute defending by Homeboyz defenders. Tuyisenge’s dream debut was cut short in the 72nd minute as he hobbled off injured and was replaced by Jacob Keli who scored three minutes after coming on with a powerful header to complete Gor’s convincing win.

  • I hav always said that most if not all gor players are national team materials.all what was lucking is a coach to build steam from this quality.instead,we had a politician.inciting ignorant fans against these important official but unable to take charge of the back room.no new signing and the team is scoring convincingly. Thanks Ze maria for proving me right.

  • I remember exhorting fellow bloggers to give our strikers time when we were at our lowest and pessimism was our main currency. I also disputed the view that Keli and Agwanda could not profit from high balls into the box giving the example of how Keli had scored with headers before including a stunner for Harambee Stars from a very tight angle. Today that has come to pass!!!Keli and Agwanda have scored double digits before and whoever between them gets to start regularly alongside Ja Usenge will be in contention for the Golden Boot.

  • Quite surprised that Jerry kept a clean sheet between the sticks, kudos ‘mr mca’. Quite happy that the match was won without Aucho and Walusimbi, that shows that men are seriously at work.

  • Good work laying down the foundation of retaining the Sportpesa Premier League.Im optimistic there are better results ahead.

  • Now please get rid of Aucho and sign Kagere. His discipline and committment to the team is wanting.

  • As was expected, the Homeboyz coach has found a straw upon which to clutch. Shimanyula is blasting KPL for favouring Gor by scheduling the match just 3 days since their last encounter against Ingwe. I wonder whether such an excuse would have surfaced if the results would have reversed to his favour. Expect Kogallo to shine brighter but the same excuses from other coaches will emerge.

Pole to ingo and the ingwe fraternity. ..they thought that after going all those games without a loss they woud finish the league unbeaten.
FYI. ..going a whole season without losing a game is no mean feat..it takes class, guile, determination and focus and only one team in Kenya can do that. .the mighty Gor Mahia..all others are just pretenders and wannabes! !

Dear K’Ogallo Family, Patience is always a virtue. Gratefulness as well. All of us are excited at what happened. But I also think that we must not be quick to make preferences on player. It is the technical bench that spends time with these players. We only get to see them when at work on the pitch. As much as we are at liberty to give opinions, sober contribution will solidify our character standing in matters foot ball in Kenya. This is because K’ogalo is a big respected team. Let us be on the recruiting spree of inviting people to attend matches. But this must always remain at the back of our mind. Football is just but a game and there is Winning, Drawing or Loosing..

      well said.

I hear that there is another sponsor coming on board this month. Does anyone know who it is? And how is the Elliot’s initiative going on? We should never drop such just because we now have a sponsor. Running a club like Gor is no joke

      Reply
  • @ Dan, Kogallo under AR is very strategic with the approach to sponsors – each one must add value to the famous brand, I can reveal to you currently sponsors under discussion are insurance partner- for players, transport and logistic partner -for movement and hotel chain partner – for accomodation.

Thanks @Jakoyo. My humble request is that as fans let’s not kill the goose that lays the golden egg by resorting to uncouth behaviors when results don’t go our way or even when we are celebrating our wins. Let’s do everything in moderation and responsibly. . When mashemeji beat us we accepted and moved on but kumbe God had other GREAT plans for us. Currently what we get in a month in terms of sponsorship is more than double what even Tusker gets so all our players are now focused on delivering and the office ensures that we camp before very match. .
The thing to note is that we will lose some games (even to very ‘weak’ and ‘poor ‘teams), win some and draw some but that cannot stop us from doing our quadruple.

All we have to do s to BELIEVE that WE CAN and we will be able.

So let all the noises be directed to one place, constructively and that is, supporting the team

    GREAT WIN.

We shall build on this win. I also think the team should dispense with unreasonable players.

Truly we must be moving forward and not stagnate. If we reached the finals of CECAFA we should at least repeat another final or win it, the worst is doing well in the tournament but with egoistic players that will be a pipe dream.

  • I can authoritatively reveal to you good brothers that the third sponsor/partner is a local airline company in fly 540 which will be flying our players to match venues in kisumu, mombasa and eldoret if need be…There is also the insurance initiative being followed up but they are not coming on as sponsors but as the main preferred insurer of kogalo fc…
