Gor Mahia go down to Mathare United 1-0

Mugiraneza challenges Edwin Seda

Coach Dylan Kerr suffered his first defeat as Kogalo coach when his side went down 0-1 to Mathare United at Thika municipal stadium. It was a mirror image of the first leg. Gor Mahia seem unable to adapt their game to that field.

Mathare United handed coach Dylan Kerr his first defeat after edging out Gor Mahia 1-0 in a Kenyan Premier League match at Thika Stadium on Saturday.

Chrispine Oduor’s goal in the fifth minute made all the difference as Mathare United completed a double over the KPL league leaders by an identical scoreline.

Gor Mahia had started well with Meddie Kagere breaking free from the right and beating Samuel Olwande in defence but his resultant effort went wide.

Two minutes later, Gor Mahia were forced to make an early substitution when Ian Wafula was brought in for Karim Nizigiyimana.

Then the tide quickly turned as Mathare seem to take control and the result was their early goal.
Oduor created space for himself on the left and picked out Cliff Nyakeya who returned the favour and the latter beat Boniface Oluoch with a low shot at the bottom right corner for Mathare’s opener in the fifth minute.

After the goal, Mathare continued to pile pressure. In the 21st minute, Edward Seda’s free kick from the edge of the box went inches wide.

Then two minutes later, Boniface Oluoch was forced to come out to deny Mathare United once again from a corner kick.

Nyakeya’s shot in the 33rd minute went just wide.

One minute later, Gor Mahia midfielder Francis Kahata was denied by Lewis Opiyo in goal for Mathare from a well taken volley.

The Slum Boys were the more ambitious side at the start of the second half with Chris Ochieng’s shot blocked by Oluoch.

At the hour mark, Edward Seda’s free kick hit the Gor wall. Jacques Tuyisenge came close to equalising for Gor, but his header hit the roof with a quarter of an hour to go.

Kahata was denied once again by Opiyo from a free kick as Gor continued to pile pressure.

with all due respect to our opponents, nothing to do with the pitch, 2 of the 4 losses to date is due to delay in bonus payments…..just fix the money problems, sponsorship Yajowa! can somebody , i repeat……..anybody replace sportpesa before the damage is done in 2018 ?

Sportpesa replacement is easy, membership cum season ticket spiced up with Goma Lotto lottery entries/prizes per home game etc. 25,000 Jokanam paying at kes.3,000 will raise kes.75M.Only problem is bloated EC lacks the accountability and transparency to mobilize and gain trust of the GMFC potential members to give their money.Fans will never fund bottomless stomachs now being fronted as “building a stadium”. The latest/ biggest childish propaganda currently in GM is saying that you want to build a stadium when you can’t pay players winning allowances on time. THIS IS PLAYER & TB EXPLOITATION! Bloated EC and their kingdom guards must be even more elated then Mathare with this result. +10 years at the helm but no double locally, never going beyond the preliminary round in CAF, lack of structures plus the local league wins must all be put into context. P.S Not directed @ Jakoyo who i can’t remember using terms like childish despite his fierce defense of AR, which he is entitled to and i respect.

  • Give it the befitting title “Gor Mahia thrashed by the Slum Boys in Thika”
Was the pitch poor only in the Gor Mahia side?
Pay the bonuses and allowances on time, it will save us the quagmire.
Only Sofapaka won its match today. That is not a reason to lose a match to a relegation-threatened Mathare.
    When us our next match?

  • For whatever reason Gor lost today , be it their side of the pitch or whatever , the fact is that the lost to a bottom of the table team they ought not to , but today its not only Gor as the champions who lost to a bottom of the table , The Chelsea , the well oiled machine with no bonus problems lost to hitherto winless Crystal Palace and if not for the bonuses or the pitch then there ought to be at least a reason or is it also common sense that even the best lose and even the Messy ful Argentina struggle their way into the world cup despite being near winners in the previous ones , and so yes kogalo lost, we win some , we lose some but I would be more at ease if our loses were purely for football reasons , but if that be not the case and the case be courtesy of incompetence and negligence , illegalities n irregularities , then we must unbury our heads from the sand and confront it .
One thing that is for sure is that considering the mediocrity of the league we are in , it is a pity that what we celebrate as success has no iota of viability or sustainabilty if the situation remains as presently constituted .
We may have an official whomeans well but for all Intents and purposes has reached the end of his football management intelligence .
We are on neutral gear so far as our peers and agemates are concerned and the gap continues to widen .
So to the management , is it too much to respectfully ask what the game plan is ? , I love the idea of a stadium , but u Mr Rachier is intelligent enough to appreciate that there are very few and very rich clubs 100s plus of years of age but dont as yet own any stadium . . .there is a good reason y and so save as that as a ” your priority ” .
Right now we are in no doubt that we will be facing Africa next season , whats the plan ? .
It is so painful to see a Potential giant of a club with massive potential for resource mobilization always spinning on the same spot and we are made to believe it is motion .
This must change , am tired of unsustainable ” celebrations”

Losing to Mathare not a big deal, they beat us in first leg at same venue and developed kichwa ngumu, sawa tu. It’s nothing to do with bonuses. That’s how boggey teams start, with vichwa ngumu hivyo

When bonuses are not paid on time or as agreed the team does not train as that is the only way players and TB will get EC to honour their part of the bargain.
Not training affects the teams performance.
That is the elephant in the room that needs to be addressed.
Imagine such disruptions continuing even as we start CAF preparations or even before a continental match.

For us this Mathare game we were literally down. The mid was not functional so the strikers were not being fed. The field is generally BAD and Nzigimana was stretchered off n the second minute. Such a sub has a negative psychological effect on the team. We literally started pressurizing in the 80th when it was too late.
With HomeBoyz and Ulinzi not winning and Sofa winning our crowning is delayed for a match or two. We need to beat Sharks and draw with Ulinzi over the weekend or if Sofa don’t win then we get crowned. For that it’s pretty obvious we are the champs but we need to do it early so that the fringe players can play the remaining 5 games.
Guys, please leave the sponsor out of or inability to organize ourselves. We have had very many opportunities to prove that we can financially run the club but FAILED MISERABLY. Infact the proponents for this were the same ones who vowed never to contribute to the PAYBILL

  • I think it is justok to acknowledge the fact that the performance of a team on the pitch starts from what happens with the team before the pitch ( EC) andthen to the TB , then to the Playing unit and then all this is summed up on the pitch .
I understand and accept the fact that we are currently facing a cashflow shortage , but having accepted that , the route to a remedy is to identify y we continously find ourselves in this sorry situation.
One thing we must accept is that we have been unable to harness the much that is within our control which is our brand and our huge fan base .
What we get from our sponsors would just be to supplement what we already have .
These are issues that all those who mean well for Gor must confront and confronting them should not mean an affront to the EC but rather an affront to mediocrity .
My support for AR and the EC cannot be unconditional for the sole reason that my support for the club is supreme .
While a loss like against Mathare is understandable just like defending champions chelsea’s loss to bottom of the table , goalless and pointless Christal palace , I would be at peace if the loss was purely footballing reasons like Chelseas.
