Gor Mahia held 2-2 by Rayon Sports

Gor Mahia gave up a 2-0 halftime lead and ended up settling for a 2-2 draw with Rayon Sports of Rwanda in their opener for the 2018 CECAFA club cup. Gor Mahia’s goals came from Jacque Tuyisenge in the 33rd minute and Humphrey Mieno on the 4oth minute. Fatigue seemed to be a factor.

Additional reporting from CapitalFM

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 1- Skipper Pierre Kwizera scored in the 89th minute as Rwandese champions Rayon Sport rallied from two goals down to hold record Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia to a 2-2 draw in their opening game of the CECAFA Kagame Cup in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on Sunday.

K’Ogalo looked to be on their way to victory after Jacques Tuyisenge and Humphrey Mieno scored in the first half both off Ephraim Guikan assists, but the Rwandese champions came off better in the second half and rallied for a point.

Malian forward Ismaila Diarra pulled one back from the penalty spot before Kwizera popped up with the equalizer just a minute to full time.

Head coach Dylan kerr fielded his strongest squad for the tie, only switching in defense where Charles Momanyi started ahead of Joash Onyango while at right back, Innocent Wafula was preferred for Philemon Otieno who was rested.

-Gukian assists

Ephraim Guikan, handed the duty of filling the boots left by Meddie Kagere who left the club for Tanzania’s Simba showed he is just about doing that when he laid in the assist for the opener.

His good work on the ball saw him earn space and slice a low cross which was duly tapped home by Tuyisenge. He created the second goal in same fashion, this time Mieno doing the duty of directing the ball on target.

However, Gor seemed to have faded off in the second half and the Rwandese took advantage, Diarra who had missed an open chance in the first half scoring from the spot after Mieno’s handball in the 63rd minute.

They kept on the pressure and it bore fruit in the sunset minutes of the game when Kwizera finished off an assist from Kevin Muhire to share the spoils.

Gor must now win their second group match on Tuesday against Burundi’s Lydia Ludic to keep their hopes of progressing to the knockout stages alive.

More to come……….

Those who sweat and toil for 90 minutes per game are entitled to 20% paid in installments.
ATI THEY SIGNED A CONTRACT, ATI CLUB HAS EXPENSES BUT WHERE ARE THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS AMA IT’S THE TRIP TO RUSSIA.
Are passengers like K14 who skip training and skull treated the same as the likes of Shakava, Kahata and of ex-player Meddie Kagere or the regulars when paying out the winnings. We have about 15 regulars who should be paid at least 100k each of the SPesa prize money plus the head coach, his assistant, TM.
The passengers should receive significantly less e.g a 5k token.
That is the only way merit and performance will be acknowledged and recognized.

        • These are real facts and bloggers should be objective not posting craps. We all know there are issues and challenges but the same office we have been attacking left right centre have managed the club to stay afloat.

We need to learn about thanksgiving and appreciation but not insults. The chairman has his own money to finance the trip to Russia and he does not need to explain to bloggers.

I watched the match through the phone on azam TV and I can say that what caused the second half was due to poor substitution from the coach. Somebody tell Dylan Kerr that it’s not a must for k14 to play. He is below par and his quality is not near Gor mahia fc quality. He can’t create goals which are expected of him as an attacking midfielder. He gave the rayon sports players not to work hard for the ball. He never initiated an attack. It was like Gor mahia were playing a man down.why is coach not using that player who came from ulinzi.cabin Omondi is too lazy to play for Gor mahia. He should be loaned out.

We also need to accept that we won’t win some games. With Joash suspended it’s Momanyi who will partner Shakava in the next CAF game so i believe the coach is experimenting with that combination.

Let’s not try & bring tension btwn the 2 coaches or even with fans by insinuating that Zico is the one pushing Kevin.I believe Dylan is fully in charge of the team & he alone is the one who recommended the signing of kevo.Kevo is a very talented player, in fact I think kahata in that squad ndio amemzidi but unfortunately the dude doesn’t realize what he possess. I understand the coach’s attempt to re- awaken that sleeping talent that he See’s in him.Since the transfer period is over , he is one of us let’s support him & the coach and hope that he will get his confidence , fitness and form back.Tuwacha name calling.Kevo did not play in Rwanda against The same opponents and we drew, LETS ENCOURAGE ALL OUR PLAYERS

Where on earth can you leave Samuel Onyango on the bench and play passenger No 14?????

Favoritism has criped in to the team and soon the team will go down the middle

Even as we make comments as a right, kindly let us avoid the words “passenger” “fringe players” in reference to players, it’s very bad, no matter how aggrieved we may be.

    • @Ja Thur Gi Ji, I am in total agreement with your post. There is no player who is a passengers and bloggers need to refrain from this term. K14 is a Gor Mahia player and we need to encourage him as he facing a number of problems. He is a talented player that can recover his form and help the club. The passenger player as being referred by bloggers is so talented and if He is given maximum support, he can rediscover his old form and become the darling of the fans.

These are the same people that had referred to Tuyisenge as 4 mill project but now Tuyisenge is scoring goals. On the same note they wanted Blackberry contract to be terminated. Surely we need objective postings but not craps and bullshit on this site.

They have continued to call office bearers all sorts of names and at the same time they expect the office to perform. such characters can not even afford to support team financially nor follow the team wherever the team is playing.
