Gor Mahia held by Posta Rangers 1-1

Scorer: Jacque Tuyisenge

For the second succesive weekend, Gor Mahia were held to a 1-1 draw. This time it was Posta Rangers who are coached by former Gor Mahia player and coach Sammy Omollo “Pamzo”.
Additional Reporting from Capital Sports
Rwandese striker Jacques Tuyisenge came off the bench to spare K`Ogalo`s blushes with a well driven shot in the 78minute to turn the game on its head and inject life to the Green Army who had endured frustrating spells.

Veteran Dennis Mukaisi had put the Sammy “Pamzo” Omollo coached mailmen ahead at the hour mark when he lovely chested a cross in the box before slamming past a helpless Boniface Oluoch in Gor Mahia`s goal. The first half had otherwise been a dull affair with neither side having the cutting edge infront of goal but the game sprung to life with 30 minutes left on the clock.

The first real chance of the game fell on Rangers` Joseph Mbugi but he fired awfullly wide after 16 minutes when he should have done much better. Mukaisi came prodding again midway through the first half but fluffed a glorious chance after breaking away from the watch of Musa Mohammed only to fumble with goal on sight.

Missed chances and lethargy made both sets of coaches ring changes with Omollo bringing in Simon Mbugua for Gerald Obwoge while Gor Mahia`s Ze Maria summoned the fresh legs of Tuyisenge, Francis Kahata and Oliver Maloba. The outcome leaves K`Ogalo on 27points from 13 games while Rangers are on 24.

Posta Rangers: Patrick Matasi (GK), Hashim Mukhwana, Luke Ochieng’, Donald Owiti, Collins Omondi, Jerry Santo, Joseph Mbugi, Geoffrey Kataka, Titus Achesa, Jared Obwoge, Dennis Mukaisi.

Subs: Farouk Shikhalo (GK), Simon Mbugua, Simon Ogutu, Eric Kibiru, Joseph Kuria, Gerson Likono, Joseph Nyagah.

Gor Mahia: 29. Bonface Oluoch, 3. Karim Nizigiyimana, 4. Ochieng’ Wellington 5. Musa Mohammed (Cpt), 12. Joash Onyango, 20. Ernest Wendo, 11. Amos Nondi, 10. Kenneth Muguna, 17. Timothy Otieno, 22. Meddie Kagere, 2. Walusimbi Godfrey.

  • I never watch this March but I think our boys tried…
The only advise I can them is to score in the earliest minutes of the game…

@Wuod Suba, when you are down and need to score you beef your attack at the expense of the defence. Great coaches like Mourinho and Loga do that all the time.

  • Congrats to Tuisyenge for scoring the all important goal when Gor was almost being condemned to another defeat. We must give credit where it is due.Posta has the most rigid defence hence coming from behind and forcing a draw against them is quite an achievement. Nondi was wasteful and couldn’t even control the ball properly, I wonder why he started ahead of the other subs.At least we are ending the first leg still on top though with a goal difference advantage.Congrats Jausenge and the rest of the playing unit.

  • Rotation is okay but Ze seems to be experimenting still. I know I am not a coach and who plays and who is benched is the prerogative of the coach. But why in hell start Nondi who has played a total of 20 minutes combined this season? He was erratic but spent close to 70 minutes on the pitch? It is okay to give him a chance but once you see he cannot deliver why keep him so long on the pitch? The same happened with Migi against Thika. By the time the subs come it is too late. I pray Ze establishes his best first eleven and sticks to it!!!

  • A tough and very tactical game from Posta Rangers who fielded two lines of Defense thereby breaking our passing play and totally shutting spaces in their final third. Still we fought back to grab a point which is satisfactory since the game seemed to be heading for a loss. Congrats to Tuyisenge for scoring that important goal keep on doing so as it’s your main duty. To Ze Maria now…Pliz minimize player rotation and use players according to their strengths-There is no way Amos Nondi can thrive in the right Attacking Flank Position in a 3-5-2 system (The boy is a natural number 10) and Innocent Wafula is a viable option there should you want a new face in that position. It curtailed the boys movement and he ended up having a torrid day in the office (The right move would have been if he starts Timothy is on the bench and Wafula-Maloba or Ndirangu plies the attacking wing)

Do we need any recruitment during this window? i sincerely think no, what do we need? A plotter, coach capable of good analysis, we have quality players. Very adaptable to win this league. Look at Tusker, they are now catching up with us. Compare our players head on one by one. We are head and shoulders above them. Our main undoing is the technical dept. I personally have no faith ion it , including Zico. I’d have preffered Pamzo. We have one week for soul searching to do. otherwise Project Tusker is winning again and we shall only salivate with draws and loosing to Kalongolongo teams.

We shall all rejoice when a Galactico scores. However, we are let down by a blunt striking force. A team that does an average of one goal per match is just hanging in there. Suffice it to say that our two tacticians (Jodala included) were defenders in their hey days. As coach for Kenya, we remember Zico’s main tactics revolved around a watertight defence.

This striking headache should be sorted out ASAP. If any signing is to be done, emphasis must be put on sharpening the attack. Is it possible to send John the Baptist on loan then his foreigner’s slot be taken by one very lethal striker from Vihiga, Busia, Uganda, Burundi or wherever?

  • This team is prooving to be average surviving on luck or bad luck as ze maria puts it to win or draw matches, am getting concerned by the sudden turn of events.can we give zico full 90 minutes head coach for the 3 games , yajowa thooo ?

I had predicted that our next three games will be draws. A kogallo draw is always good for the pocker. So in short, am not surprised at all until muhoroni comes calling in week 16 !

Speaking of surprises, congratulations to tusker for doing 7 wins in a row, a record in the history of KPL, previous record was nutall, 6 wins in a row.

Though i agree with you on one issue, Tusker has found a rhythm that will not be broken, at that pace that they have set now, they are bound to take the league again as we draw/loose with kalongolongo teams like last year. It is our fate . Tailalalala

A few wks ago when GM lost to Mathare, guys were castigating the EC,the coach for letting go the 2 players who punished us frm GM youth to the slum boys,Now guys are complaining a youth product Nondi, was given a chance,Not long ago guys were complaining of lack of depth in the team,Now they are against rotation of players, advocating for 1st 11 WK in,WK out & soon when the 1st 11 posts average results, guys will starting questioning the rationale of having a squad of 30 players & not utilising them.Said b4,i will be surprised if Maria wins a trophy with GM,bt have learned to vumilia

    • Levelmind, had Nondi delivered no one would be complaining!!! And every team in the world has a preferred first 11 with subs being rotated.

    • Nondi is a good player who should continue being used frequently…I advocated his fielding and was glad he got a chance. The only flipside is coach used him in an unfamiliar left wingback attacking role usually reserved for Walusimbi who slotted into holding midfield position alongside Muguna with Wendo shielding the back four. That position challenged him and hence why i faulted the coach as Kahata-Ndirangu-Maloba or Wafula are quite capable of that role while Nondi should have taken a more central attacking midfield role…

@musymo,I think we tend to analyze this games with emotions, & miss the +ves, can we say that we drew bcoz of 1player, nondi? Last WK it was bcoz miguna & walu didn’t play. Most of us want the coach to say publicly this is my 1st 11,bt you can see for yourself nearly 98-99% of the same players playing except for one or 2 players.Which team In EPL,La liga played the 1st 11 thru out over 30 games?,their was always a change of 1 or 2 players. Players who are most likely to play all the matches are defenders & keepers.@musymo & @ jasego can guys refer to the team that played posts as 2nd string team?,kahata was recently started ,some said he was aging,Karim, med, migi ,jausenge, ati should be offloaded. Jamaneni, let’s not analyze na emotions

      • Levelmind me hata sina shida na team…I just mentioned shortfalls tactically like putting Nondi in unfamiliar position….But let me ask you also one question bro…For a foreign slot position that has been the central core of Gor’s 3 Peat success which is the holding midfield role that had dynamos like Baba Kizito and Aucho previously…Should Migi be left to do mediocrity in it (Mostly from the bench) or we should call a spade a spade send him on loan and bring a world class striker or attacking midfielder to complement our forward attacking line?

Wuod Asego Kanyada-when Jack Johnson took over Gor Mahia the fans were so much against his style of tactics. However he persistently ventured on winning matches. He became our darling. Is Ze Maria winning matches? The best is he was the best team with draws last season and i foresee the same this time again. I am not against his tactics if he can win ,but after a season he is still gambling.

@Level mindfan, our fans NOT supporter, sometime catch my mouth nothing “Mako ga mana dhoga nono”. When Jausenge plays and fails to score, I hear some cry babies here call him 4Million problem. Today he has scored he becames a hero who should not always be on the bench. No is kept on the bench, Ze Maria does not know how to build young talent, he plays, we want first 11. You keep the same lineup, ooh we want rotation, you rotate, ohh we dont have confidence in the TB. Tek mana ka ywak punda.

You are right that we have no stand…..we are inconsistent and very demanding. It is true. It is a fact. However, we have no stand because Ze Maria has no stand. He is wishy washy. We are inconsistent because the team’s performance is inconsistent. We demanding because

I see no gamble here. League is competitive. Give credit to the other KPL teams as well. Posta Rangers are enjoying what is arguably their best season ever. A hard fought draw was a fair result and mark you we came from behind. I am enjoying every bit of it.

Is the league only competitive against Gor? If the going gets touigh the tough get going. Let’s get going omera or else ni kama last year tuu. Tusker is coming for us and we say the league is competitive..they have mastered the art of ‘the tough get going”

Am sure your comments abt migi, jasego were different when he was signed & especially after our 1st match against sharks.I agree with you GM undoing is lack of goals. As for Nondi, what I saw during training is like the coach seems to believe that he can deliver good crosses. The problem is lack of creativity, players should talk amongst themselves and change positions in the course of the game to confuse opponents or even when one is tightly marked in one end. This rarely happens with GM,you are told you are offensive on the right/left you stick till the end of the game.walu & Nondi should frequently alternate in such a situation without the coach telling them

    Reply
    • Levelmind from my interactions with many senior players…GMs undoing has been strictness which borders on micro-management while on the pitch with no room whatsoever to express oneself…Coach loathes players who have their own mind and such has occasioned the drop in Kagere’s trickery/output…At some point Walusimbi was frustrated…Wafula became even confused at some point..You can see Ndirangu is finding it uphill breaking into the 18 squad team…Blackberry has had to adapt and stop madoido…Basically its stick to instructions prevailing on-pitch situations notwithstanding coz as he says it best in the end its him the coach will answer for the results…Its his right as a manager and that is he’s preferred style but me i think using players according to their strong points would be much better

What I have observed is that no one is blaming the keeper for the soft goal that Posta scored. I believe Bonnie could have done better. But all in all the way we played in the last 30 mins of the game shows that we are still capable. I have realized that criticizing from results and not basing it from what happened on the ground is very different. The guys who watched the game yesterday confess that the opponents were good and we need to pull up our socks. We need to start looking for the goals from the first minute
