Gor Mahia hold Sofapaka

Displaying an improved performance in comparison to their performance against Bandari, Kogalo held Sofapaka to a goal-less draw in a midweek floodlit match at the Nyayo stadium on Wednesday.

Sofapaka, who were buoyed by their recent success at continental level were quick to go on the offensive in the 1st half with Bob Mugalia, John Baraza and Patrick Kagogo forcing a series of fine saves from Jerim Onyango in the Kogalo goal.  The enigmatic Onyango is an excellent shot stopper when he is on game. But he is prone to some howlers. On Wednesday however, Jerim was on top of his game. Collins Okoth made a return and showed that he had not missed a beat, putting on a good display.

Kogalo were the more adventurous side in the second half especially with the introduction of Kevin Omondi who of late has assumed the role of super-sub. It was lively new signing, Moses Odhiambo who had the best chance after being put through by Lavatsa. But with only the keeper to beat, he shot wide.

It was a lively game certainly not worth a goal-less tie. Kogalo seem to be able to raise their game when they play against good teams but show inconsistency against the likes of Chemelil, Rangers and Congo United. Go figure. This lack of consistency needs to be addressed.

The tie leaves Gor Mahia in 4th place with 19 points.

  • A much better display by the team and a draw is better than a loss any day coz it comes to count later in the day. As i haev always said its easy to pick the best players in Gor currently, Gatusso, Kevo, Moses and Masika (the plays his heart out this boy). I still believe that Akumu is hiding an injury though i could be wrong coz it was evident in game avoiding tackles thus overloading Gatusso. His diplay is still not upto scratch like last season though he is good. Moses was a marvel showing great experince and he really knows how to position himself. Lavatsa was slow i guess he has still not recovered. Overally that was good lads and Zedi keep evaluating our performance and we will improve the potential is there. I thank God for the draw.

  • I was good performance. The match was too physical and our boys were kicked most of the time. Sofapaka resorted to long and high balls. The coach need to build on this with an ultimate objective of improving the overall performance to win KPL. The defence was excellent with Masika should replace Edgar in defence. Musa was outstanding too. Our goalkeeper was man of the match. Gattuso played very well and he has lots of room to improve. Gattuso towards the end of the game appeared to have picked a knock. Akumu appeared too slow but may be he has a knock. Moses played very well. However, Lavasta was abit rusty and we hope the boys are going to improve in the next match.

  • This GM team can win KPL with right focus this year. I know we have perpetual pacesetters like Tusker, KCB and new challenger Rangers on top but we are going to overcome them with right attitude. Apart from Rangers who have very good coach, KCB and Tusker will remain permanent pacesetters. Zico should also start gradually introducing our young players like Mariga, Okal, Owiti, Kitawi, Robert etc in the last 15 minutes of the game. This is how confidence can eventually be built in the team so that in case of injuries to our regular players, they can step in and show their football artistry skills.

  • I choose to be optimistic.
I have wanted Zico to go on several occasions this season but now i have changed my mind. I have been impressed by the team against Palmeiras, Mathare (Top 8) and Sofapaka last night. The team which played against Sofapaka should be the starting eleven. The substitutions were correct but should come in the 60th minute. Please Zico trust your players, then fans will trust them and you. Let them start every match and build confidence and gel.
The team is the best in KPL. Odhiambo is my top player so far – best skill, great vision, great distribution, good speed, high work rate, the guy is better than Blackberry. The teams greatest weakness is in physical fitness, after 50 minutes the boys are weak. Onyango is weak, Lavatsa is not strong enough, Kevin tires easily, Gatusso is heavy, Akumu is overworked as a result and tires too. The midfield has skill but weak physically. Please Zico make sure the boys visit a gym and eat well. Look and Kagogo and the rest of Sofapaka.
I remain an optimist and i urge the whole K’ogalo nation to trust and support our team and soon enough no team will stand in our way.
Ferguson took charge in 86 and won in 93 but trust and support can and has achieved so much for United. Gunners still trust Wenger six dry years later and counting.
    I choose to be optimistic.

MY BRETHRENS,LET’S PRAY FIRST AIM HIGH AND STAY FOCUSED..!

A man had nothing for his family to eat;He had an old shotgun and three bullets. So, he decided that he would go out and kill something for dinner. As he went down the road, he saw a rabbit and he shot at the rabbit and missed it. Then he saw squirrel and fired a shot at the squirrel and missed it. As he went further, he saw a wild turkey in the tree and he had only one bullet, but a voice came to him and said, “Pray first, aim high and stay focused.”
However, at the same time, he saw a deer which was a better kill. He brought the gun down and aimed at the deer. But, then he saw a rattlesnake between his legs about to bite him, so he naturally brought the gun down further to shoot the rattlesnake. Still, the voice said again to him, “I said ‘Pray, aim high and stay focused.”
So, the man decided to listen to the voice. He prayed, then aimed the gun high up in the tree and shot the wild turkey. The bullet bounced off the turkey and killed the deer. The handle fell off the gun and hit the snake in the head and killed it. And, when the gun had gone off, it knocked him into a pond. When he stood up to look around, he had fish in all his pockets, a dead deer and a turkey to eat. The snake (Satan) was dead simply because the man listened to God.
Moral of the story: Pray first before you do anything, aim and shoot high in your goals, and stay focused on God. Never let others discourage you concerning your past. The past is exactly that: “the past.” Live every day one day at a time, and remember that only God knows our future and that he will not put you through any more than you can bear. Do not look to man for your blessings, but look to the doors that only He has prepared in advance for you in your favor. Wait, be still and patient: keep God first and everything else will follow.

Just share this with other fans in order that someone might be blessed.

HAVE A BLESSED LIFE, BLESSED GAMES AND BLESSED WINS……..!

Mama maggie this too uplifting and hope i”ll one day get your contacts for my spiritual upkeep. But that aside, gor much was fine.I will be the last person to congratulate adraw or loss.To begin with, our goal keeper knew very well his role and played it to the end.defence autonomous with great guy MASIKA,our great problem with sofapaka was on the mid field and any fan who was kin will agree with me that these are the people who gave mulama all the space more so during fast half.UNTIL the introduction of kevin Omondi mulama enjoyed it.these is where our great short coming was.Akumu is good but mulama out played him in mid.So my advice we will still be playing these big matches and kevo should start during such matches.on upfront we played two different people playing different games,Moses is very fast and dont waste time while lavatsa is slow and timing these people for any good result should not work together. And where is Kiplangat these guy can do good with mosses and Makori with kevin behind them.lavatsa should play mostly with Odera and Anguyo I am open to correction.Instead of making alot of noise to the coach adice him here,we are forcing the coach to work under too much pressure and untill these is changed no better result will be foth coming.

Where are the critics? Patience is the word. I am personally happy that the boys won snatched a point from the jaws of the cat. That was a very good display. However do you understand fatigue? Look at Akumu, he is just too fatigued after playing all season last year and in the under 20 and so forth. I think he should have time to rest otherwise he is burning out. Same to Lavatsa. Tony is just out maybe not my type of guy at all. Makori runs too hard and tires out too fast. Kevo’s 40 minutes in the field? Is he down with something? Anyway well done boys, keep it up.

First and foremost i have to agree that there was an improvement in the perfomance of the team, but the problems still persist Gatusso was outstanding anytime he had the ball but the final delivery to the strikers was wanting. Sofameaw still dominated the midfield no wonder kagogo and mugalia had so many shots at Freddie thank God he saved all of them, although he still goes for ball he knows he wont get to causing alot of anxiety in the defence trying to clear the ball. We still need a tall buffed up guy to sit in the midfield and very fast paced Number 11, and 7 wings zikiwa moto we will score as many goals as possible and I think BB always used his speed on the wings to get away from the defenders. Otherwise the boys still have lots of room to improve

  • @Jakojera your thinking is always like mine. Our weak link is the midfiedl and the wings. Look at Akumu something is not right with this lad either he has an injury or his form is rapidly dipping. His support for Gatusso was not adequate and his role of defending midfielder was quite ineffective and i must say we need to recruit someone for this position otherwise he will burnout. Look at Sofapaka they attack from the wings with speed (Kagogo and Mugalia) but what do we have to show for it an ineffective Tony and Makori. What was the effect an overworked defence. If anyone notice the moment Kevo and Mose moved to the wings we were dangerous on the attack but we lacked a finisher. Zedi needs to look for wingers especially the wingbacks to start the attack and i can assure you we shall flourish. So i hear Rachier was at Ramogi fm so anyone what did he say? I think he still needs a head of communication and media to handle matters to do with communication and let him (Rachier) handle policy issues.

I like the way Tony Onyango plays though abit slow he one of the best future playes in the country. Onyango Jagol ibedie you made us proud. • ATTACKING OUR PLAYERS IS BOTH DISHEARTENING AND DEMORALISING

Having read most of your comments elsewhere on this, i strongly feel there is a growing attack of our gallant boys. Many of have complained that our boys are physically unfit, poor ball control, lacks creativity, teamwork that have starved this clubs with goals. Some have also sighted indiscpline especially from the young call ups. You will appreciate that the challenges confronting our club are enormous. These problems as ably articulated by mpst of you cannot be overcomed in a fortnight.

Our players who follow this feeds on their private time will feel very disheartened and eventually demoralized. Am not suggesting that you should not critic our players or make comments. It should be done with some measure of responsibility. That is the only time we shall encourage our officials, technical bench and players to share their experiences on this forum. Some of the words you use are strong and vindictive.

I plead again to all contributors to weigh your words wisely because it will ultimately bring harmony, cohesion and success to our club.
Thank you and God bless K’ogalo.

  • @pareyio for ur info rather someone mentions ur weakness than one who doesnt. Its not like we dont love our players we wnt them to up their game. I will say Tony is good but he needs supplements to build mass same as Odera. Akumu is good but something aint right could he having an injury? Lavastsa was slow off the blocks amybe he has not fully recovered. I think every player is supposed to read these comments and evaluate themselves. It takes someone from outside to see ur weakness, so dont flatter someone when they did do good rather show their weakness and tell them there is room for improvement.

I will agree that truth doesn’t change not even its colours. But if you are evaluating someone then you must just put it in a way that makes him get the message..its when you’ll be effective.. Now to zico i believe you’ll do well i hope you’re not sidelining any player as people have been shouting arise and fight for what belongs to Kogalo ..u have our support.. All of it.

  • What a great relief, yes relief coz there’s absolutely nothing to cheer about drawing (i.e losing 2 vital points) to a team that is no.9 in the league. Read Zico’s piece on the other site and all I can say is that coaches should match his undoubted dedication to GM with better/consistent tactical acumen.Bring back the exciting free flowing/scoring K’galo soccer.I.e midfield and attack.Remember the buck stops with you coaches.

@Agwa kasam, yes zico has been sidelining players. Where is Owiti, kitawi, wekesa etc.? We do not shout but it has been the truth of the matter. Why should we bury our heads in the sand when verdict is known outside there? Please note that we all have our rights to comment on mistakes that can not take GM anywhere! Surely we are not playing a flowing football and you can not attribute this to increased competition in the KPL. It is the duty of the coach to unleash or rediscover the hidden potentials from all players. We will wait to see whether zico will win kpl or be ready for usual excuses at the end of the season. When fans make comments, they are not shouting but airing their concerns that can be rectified. Our goal is to win kpl but not excuses that there is increased competetion, quality of players, poor officiating, fans attitude etc. There are things that need to be investigated and these include:-
    1. Allegations of bhangi or drug abuse in the technical bench and terraces
    2. Misappropriation of gate collections. As a public club there is a need for transparency and accountability in the club.
    3. Discipline in the playing unit
    4. Conduct of some officials

  • LET US MAKE OUR GOAL CLEAR TO ALL.

Having read your comments, i strongly feel we should make our goal as a club very clear to all. I believe our goal this season is to win both the premier league and top 8 tournament titles. As i write tonight, these titles are still within our reach. We should therefore not away our eyes from the prize. All the organs that form the our great club must be seen to be working in harmony and not against each other. Every Tom, Dick and Harry is an official of this club. This must stop forthwith.

The officials are men and women (if there is any) of repute. I have confidence that they will address all your concerns. As i have always intimated, if you have valuable information , please share with the officials in confidence using the formal way. Some of you are making wild allegations that you cannot substatiate.

For fans, the enthusiasm you have for your club is admirable. The passion you have for the game is enviable. The pomp and colour you have brought to the stadium is infectious. To crown it all, the chanting is both defeaning and unforgettable. I can’t wait to be in the next match!

Don’t gamble. Join Gor Mahia. Join the movement.

Like fellow minded fans have posted here before, let’s not bury our heads in the sand. Our problems were compounded by the referee and his linesman but we always brewed it ourselves. Look at the way we played 1st half? Pathetic. Ulinzi ran rings round us and even though their goal was by no means spectacular, one can’t help feeling that they deserved it. My thoughts:
    1. Why play Tony Onyango on the wing? Tony is definitely a good midfielder but his best moves come from behind the strikers. As always, he drifted again to the middle and left us badly exposed on the right. Makori made great crosses from the left but all went begging, with no response from the right, never mind that Tony never made even a single cross. You all want to tell me that Zico cannot see this, game in game out? Play Kiplagat in Tony’s position, with more play, he has the speed to rattle left backs and leave them in their wake. If we had him on the pitch, Ulinzi would have been dead and buried in the 1st half. warming the bench only makes them lose their flair and Zico will blame them when they take time to rise to the occassion again.
    2. We dont have a midfield. We have some of trhe best midfielders (Akumu, collins) but our game is not flowing. I guess Zico claims to be tactful but folks we are not headed anywhere with this game. Look at the way Lavatsa is starved of passes. That youngster can score 20 goals in a season but no one feeds him with through passes. He has to track back so deep to get balls, surely that’s killing his career.
    3. In the 2nd half we resorted to total football and anyone will tell you that it was the players reaction to the realizatio that a scoring draw was not enough for Mighty Kogalo. The players couldn’t let down the 10,000 or so partisan fans. It was by no means Zico’s plan. It’s the game we want. It’s the game we crave for. It’s the game that can give Kogalo the title this season.Folks trust me, it’s not Zico’s game.
    4. The ref denied us a clear goal because he has ultimate authority to overrule the linesman(who later confided in Jerry-our goalie, that he didnt know what he was doing). The officials again denied us a clear penalty and the fans could not be faulted for not holding back their emotions. They had to let go. Here KPL let us down. How do you allow officials who know nothing about football take charge of any Gor game? It’s criminal. Good football starts with officiating.
