Gor Mahia protest KPL ruling

Courtesy of futaa.com

After the Kenyan Premier League [KPL] ruled that the Top Eight match between Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards be postponsed again  Gor, through their Secretary General George Bwana, have come out to condemn the decision.

In their announcement, KPL cited Gor’s non-compliance with security requirements as the main reason for the indefinite postponement, something which irks Bwana.

-KPL’s statement that the Top Eight game cannot be played because Gor Mahia failed to provide a detailed security plan leaves a lot to be desired, Bwana said in a statement published on the club’s official website.

-Gor Mahia has done so much to ensure there is maximum security during its matches as demanded by the Football Kenya Federation.

-To host any league match today, the club has to have in the stadium, two fire engines, two ambulances, about 100 police officers, some on horse backs and dog handlers and stewards. All these cost us handsomely.

Earlier communication

Bwana also confirmed that KPL had fronted the Afraha Stadium as a likely candidate to host the match.

-KPL wrote to us informing us that the Top 8 tie had been scheduled to take place in Nakuru, a more risky venue than Nyayo and Kasarani.

-Our response to that was simple: “Afraha stadium is not a suitable venue for a match of this magnitude”.

The match had initially been set to take part on 1 April but was postponed after security lapses were noted in a league tie between the two teams on 18 March.

I have tried to key into the new website but this is the reply I get: “Thank you for contacting us. We will be in touch with you very soon”.

My question is how soon is “very soon” if I have been waiting for this ‘TOUCH’ since morning? It is frustrating.

My take on the super 8 thing: let KPL replace Gor with another team that can safely play AFC; if not then let K’Ogalo recruit and field an under-17 side. As things stand super 8 tourney only benefits KPL and not a team like GM that can raise the same prize money through gate collections from two league matches.

  • I think kpl is taking the advantage of the wrangles within afc to deny gor that game because since have been playing all its matches at city there have not been wrangles why only do they think that only that game needs a tight security there something behind this game. ithink gor should concerate on recruiting players.

—————The statement below is uncalled for—-

    ————up to here——-
To us we don’t have any security concerns and if Supersports does not trust on security we are providing then it’s upon them to make the highlighted above arrangements.

  • The problem is that while KPL is interested in the game for monettary reasons AFC has vowed not to play GM in the tournament. At first I thought we should withdraw but now let’s see how KPL sorts out the issue. We have nothing to lose. What happens to SS boycott? Once the SSMB hurdle is overcome there will be the hurdle of the cup sponsor. How I wish Tusker, Sony and Ulinzi could generate enough funds to enable KPL to host the U19 tourney then this issue of GM_AFC could not be there

  • For how long will GM fans keep bragging? Do you realise there is nothing to write home about results. We need to go back to the drawing board. Security is an issue and we need to all be vigilant and collectively ensure the riots in previous matches dont occur. It could be you or I that could loose an eye or life in the process. We need to agree kwamba there is a problem and weed out trouble makers. We need to help the security team sort out problems. and more so, WE MUST ALWAYS ACCEPT A LOSS NO MATTER HOW UNFAIR THE OFFICIAL WAS!! There is always the second chance and football will be played for many years to come!! Dont behave as if it is the last chance to win a match or league

  • HELL WITH THIS BENJAMIN SOGOMO AND HIS BOARD

Mr Benjamin Sogomo is the director of SSMB, a parastatal under the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The last time i checked, the executive committee of Gor Mahia sought the intervention of this matter from none other than the President of FKF, Sam Nyamweya.
The verdict: Gor has not satisfied the federation with their security plans.

    But, first things first.

SSMB has adamantly refused to let Gor Mahia used his facilities for very selfish, myopic and very unfortunately, political reasons. Kenyans will still recall a very unfortunate event when the ministry lost an opportunity of a lifetime when one multinational company sought naming rights of one the SSMB facility. The minister argued that such an arrangement will erace the history of the facility. I am seeing the same myopic feelings denying Kenyans to watch one of their popular derbies.

Mr Sogomo, a Kalenjin through his influence at the board to deny K’Ogalo ( a club widely supported by Luo) to deny them a right to use the facilities just to irk the Right Honorable PM, RAO. On the other hand, the enemies of this great club are using the board to starve the club of cash. This is another way to bring down a club.

The police officers who are normally sent to the stadium to maintain security is the ones to be blamed for most of the troubles and K’Ogalo or any other team. I was in the stadium during the last derby between GM and Ingwe. First, it was decided the police form a buffer zone between the two times directly above gate 6 on the Russia side.

What happened? The police went there late but later said they were overpowered.

The police were also under strict instructions not to allow fans to move around the stadium.

What happened? The police just kept watching the dancing fans to cross the buffer zone as they pleases accompanied by provocative songs.

When trouble started the police instead of using other ways to contain the crowds, they did what they know best. Lobbied teargas canisters to the crowd without regard for the children and women. The atmosphere was already charged especially when the referee fouled one of GM player.

We have always stated that we condemn all forms of violence in the strongest terms possible. Infact we say Pole to the family who lost their son again from the trouble that ensued. However we can never accept a situation where we are always blamed for every kind of fans trouble. No.

  • @?PAREYIO 09, you are very in your comments. I think the best thing is KPL to give the match to Ingwe. Top 8 tournament belongs to KPL and why should our club be responsible for the security arrangements?

Imagine Gor Mahia is required to make arrangement for two fire engines, two ambulances, about 100 police officers, some on horse backs and dog handlers and stewards. All these will come at a cost! Will KPL and Supersports reimburse Gor Mahia monies expensed in all the logistic arrangement?

Now Oguda is part of Ingwe committee, where is the fair play? From all our games, we have maintained peace despite the biased and poor officiating and I think this has deliberately done to provoke our fans into violence and we are not going to succumb to this high level of incitement by KPL and its ilks.

Let all our fans maintain peace and avoid any hooliganisms as KPL, SSMB, Supersports and referees have hidden agenda against us. FKF should now focus on bringing some changes in KPL and even ban it all together.

  • one thing to learn here. the adidas guys are gor mahia’s problem. guys should stop bragging how gor does not need this or that. does gor play football vs itself? today the demands are on the super8, once this goes thru’ why shouldn’t the clubs demand guarranted safety while playing gor mahia during the league. what makes you fans think that this cannot happen. what would it cost w.stima for example if they said they will not play gor in the league. it’s only six points. so what will gor do then with this arrogant attitude of WE DON’T NEED THEM.adidas guys are are boil in gor mahia’s ass and the faster the club does something about it the better. I will continue saying this, IT’S UP TO THE EC to educate these gorillas on the damage they are doing.there is nothing biased with the kpl officialdom nor about biased referees. gor mahia unfortunately is being very AMATEURISH in its approach about hooligans.sit down as the EC and quickly come out with a solution. most of these gorillas already come wearing the shirt and are easily identied. the joke about rivals fans wearing gor shirts is really just that, a joke.those who thought that gor kud survive in city stadium can now see… so keep blaming the referees, kpl and see how far u’ll go, but one thing is going to happen gor will out of the stage soon, arrongance will only generate u contempt.EC sit down with these so called fans an try to ram something into their heads. or simply cough up the security plans demanded from the kpl which obviously you cannot afford. bwana do not try to hoodwink the public, kpl is made up of officials from all clubs and if they say ur not complying then there is something wrong with ur DONE SO MUCH PLANS as u put it. unfortunately i do not think you have the capacity to understand how much ur being a part of gor problems than solution. Rachier also stop sulking and come out with solutions, the club is being ran by media lovers in collabo with fans who are totally idealess on how to manage a club. so u rush to the media on how u did somethng only YOU know… but REMEMBER u have achieved zero cause the sanctions remain. the fans now blindly follow u on how gor is being punished for this and that.WHY DON’T U PUBLISH this plan of urs that was rejected, let us know point by point if u complied so that we may believe what ur saying.

Hmmm… Some divergent views there from @dinga to ponder about. Lets not believe all we are told. Synthesize and make an informed opinion.
On official website we rather continue our blogging here. The launch was rushed thru and we had believed like six months ago that we were to have a brand new site. Laziness and lack of focus could yield a new site rather going for an existing one and of which nothing much has been done on it.

  • My take is that we should take this match and our future special home matches to Dareesalam or Amani stadium Zanzibar in order to avoid this biased FKF and SSMB. Chances is that GM will make more money by exporting soccer made in Kenya.

  • @Dinga, I pray that you receive light just like Paul (Saul) while going to Damascus to persecute christian. Tell us about your real names than hidding under canopy of unknown name.

Well stop refering to bloggers as adidas. Do you adidas is one of the most respected sportswear manufacturer? Unless you are a madman or dead man walking.

  • @12 dinga is a luo name originating from the dinga clan in the wider kisumu district. most ignorant(FR) ppl think it’s a nickname. i see no need to use an alias. some luo dude once insisted to me that Argwings(Agwingi) IS A EUROPEAN NAME. i did not argue…
nb:ignorant in french means NOT AWARE.
reference to adidas guys refers to hooligans. most who i see wearing the adidas shirts. i have said before that alot of guys wearing the adidas shirts are innocent but the wider non-football ppl will generally associate the shirt with hooligans. i gave an example of the policeman. even when you see an innocent policeman the first thing you will be reminded of is corruption and bribery even if that particular has never taken a bribe. some of the adidas guys i must admit could be bloggers here, so if ur not one of them…the truth hurts for sure. one wangari maathai once tried(and succeeded) to stop from building the tower at uhuru park, in parliament all they could say about her is that SHE IS A DIVORCEE.one wonders what that had to do with anything. all i know in life, if one calls you an idiot and you happen to be one, then you are most likely to be annoyed but if ur not the world remains CALM around you. refer to the issues i am raising, but the choice to insult is urs… so if you know ur not an adidas guy(now u know) there is no need u get irritated.

  • also note. The Adidas company has no contruct with gor mahia football club to produce shirts branded GOR MAHIA. what you are wearing is from CHANG LI… the dude who is also making thika road super highway. if they are then do they have the gor mahia permission to do so… in other words then, how much is gor mahia getting for this? refer to the use of oliech image on a KBL billboard advert as an example.

Good morning everybody.Of what benefit is the top eght competition to Kogalo? Nothing coz there is another cup competion to take a team to CAF cup. Calling upon executive please consider withdrawing from this top eight thing and concentrate on preparation for league second leg.And then defend the cup you won last year for another chance at continental competition.
