Gor Mahia take on Tusker in KPL Top 8

On Tuesday, Gor Mahia met with CORD leader Raila Odinga who presented the players with Ksh 500,000. He then challenged the team to perform better in continental events.

“My only request is to ask this team to perform well in Africa. I know they have the potential and with support from fans and management they can conquer Africa.  That should be the team’s motto going into next season. I will also urge the team’s top brass to make sure that they maintain their best players for next season. This will give the team continuity that is very vital. Also let’s have coach Frank Nutall’s stay at the club extended.” said Raila.

Having just finished celebrating their third successive league title, Gor Mahia players will need to get out of celebration mode in order to focus on the next task ahead which is the KPL Top 8 return leg against Tusker. The first leg ended 2-2 which means a draw of 1-1 or 0-0 will see Gor Mahia through to the next round and avenge last season’s loss to Tusker at the same stage. Coach Frank Nuttall has vowed that the team will not rest on its laurels.

“Tusker is a big team and we must give them all due respect. I have instructed the players not to be carried away by the league win but keep the candle aglow,” said Nuttall to supersport.

George Odhiambo Blackberry who is experiencing a resurgence in the last few games echoed hos coache’s sentiments and vowed that the playing unit would remain focused.

“We are happy with the KPL win and as you saw, we celebrated as much as we could.  The team has been magnificent and we have deserved to be where we are and we thank God for everything. On the other hand, we have two other trophies to work on and we hope to win them make history.” said Blackberry to supersport.

Aside from staying unbeaten in the league which they have accomplished, Gor Mahia are also aiming to stay unbeaten in all competitions. Tusker would like nothing better than to be the team that ends Gor Mahia’s glorious run. But full back Karim Nizigiyimana has warned that it will not beat easy.

“I’m very happy that we have won the league unbeaten but tomorrow (Wednesday) we will play to win,” Nizigiyimana said. “Were is a great player, very fantastic, but I don’t think he will punish us.” said the Burundian to the Nation.

Have now come to realise that Kenyan football agents don’t have connections in Africa n Europe they just carry players in KPL don’t take them anywhere n misuse them n leave them once their forms dips. It is high time that players start doing research on football scouts who can take them to good clubs or to stare their eyes to poverty. It is a pity that player like olunga cannot get agent who can take him to Europe. Again I blame our big brothers who ve plied football or are plying football in Europe like mariga
    Oliech
    Wanyama
    Arnold origi
    Mike okoth
    Timbe
    Omollo
For not directing football scouts to Kenya to scout players
Even the harambee star coach bobby Williamson n frank nutall they have wide connections but cannot assist players get opportunity in Europe

Olunga has worked hard both in gormahia n national team it is high time for bobby Williamson n nutall to get him a club in europe

Olunga says he wants to finish his education first unless he gets a club that will allow him to play and study at the same time and such a club is not forthcoming at the moment.

We have to up our game as a country, FIFA ranking is crucial for our players and its their responsibility to improve it. If you are an agent out there, how easy would it be for you to market a player whose country is ranked 170 in the world? He as to be very exceptional or lucky.

  • Good message from club patron Amollo. Gor should now start thinking of the Africa scene. My take is that in Kenya Gor is going to struggle getting a sponsor so long as the fans continue behaving like monkeys in the city streets. One way of Gor making it good is by entering the Africa scene and staying there. That way sponsors could come from anywhere in Africa. Forget sponsorship from public companies that want to win contracts from govt. Football is currently viewed as an opposition sport. The club should aim for the knockout stages in these champioships, the money as we all know is good. But one disappointing fact remains, where is the Gor fan in all this;
Fans wanted Mpesa, Sacco,Cards and they got them. My take was that all these ideas even though of good intention were never thought carfully. This is the problem when ideas are whipped up due to emotions. So why is the club still broke!! How much has the Sacco generated, how much does Mpesa collect per month?
Fans who can climb the tallest statues in the city in seconds but cannot afford to buy genuine club shirts.
Good riddance to KCB fc club. This institution despite making billions has done nothing to Kenya soccer. Many teenagers turn to soccer for all sorts of reasons. To mention Nairobi, 97 percent of these youth are in places like Dandora, Mathare, and Kibera. Institutions like KCB take money deposits from All Kenyans but would rather be seen in Muthaiga-Nairobi sponsoring afew rich ppl to play golf and rugby.
