Gor Mahia to feature in FKL cup

There seems to have been a change in direction amongst many KPL clubs including our own Kogalo. 5 days ago, Sofapaka Chairman Elly Kalekwa announced that KPL clubs had unanimously agreed to boycott the FKL cup including those that had already started to play.

However in a dramatic reversal , the club has decided to play and will face Timsales FC this Wednesday.

According to deputy Secretary Ronald Ngala, the club’s executive committee met early Monday and decided to compete due to fan pressure, “The fans play a great role in running and shaping our club and we cannot go against them. They have demanded that they want to see the team in the FKL tournament.”

Out of nine KPL clubs that had registered for the tourney, only Bandari and Thika United honoured their weekend matches while Tusker and Karuturi Sports opted to boycott their home fixtures. Teams that are still participating include Congo United, Gor Mahia, Bandari, Thika United, AFC Leopards, and Rangers FC.

The news will be welcomed by some fans who are eager to see Kogalo qualify for a continental tournament and redeem itself after a disastrous continental campaign in 2008 that saw an inexperienced, schoolboy laden team suffer stage fright and lose decisively.

Wise decision. As the chief Justice mentioned two weeks ago, if you are going to be circumcised you must go naked. Meaning if we want to get back to our past African glory we must be prepared to face it now. We can only judge how well we are developing as a team if we measure ourselves with great African Teams.

A boycott of the FKL cup achieves nothing and in any event the current FKL set up is in its last days hopefully.

I sure hope we win the FKL Cup, which is not a foregone conclusion by the way!

  • Last year Kogalo fielded a week team against Magongo United and ended up loosing. Wasilete hiyo upuzi this time. There are enough players. Maybe only veterans like Moses Odhiambo should be rested. At his age, he needs to take some time off. But youngstars like Ezekiel Odera and Musa Mohammed can play many games

  • THIS IS A RECIPE FOR UNNECESSARY INJURIES AND BACKLOG OF MATCHES WHICH MIGHT EVENTUALLY COST US THE LEAGUE.WHAT IS THE PRIZE FOR THIS CUP? CAN HATIMY,KASUVE & THE USELESS OKUL COME UP WITH ANYTHING NOW THAT THEY KNOW THAT NO ONE WANTS TO ASSOCIATE WITH THEM.WHAT WE THE FANS DONT REALIZE IS THAT WE ARE LEGITIMIZING A TOURNAMENT ORGANIZED BY THE WORST OFFICE ON EARTH.THE MERE MENTION OF FKL OR KFF IS ENOUGH TO SEND EVEN THE MOST IGNORANT SPONSOR RUNNING FOR DEAR LIFE.THEY EPITOMISE MEDIOCRITY.

    Wuonpap calm down
What will you say when Timsales or or Bidco win the FKL cup and qualify for continental next year while Kogalo is sitting on the sidelines ? I am tired of seeing upuzi teams like Ulinzi play abroad while Kogalo is condemned to the sidelines.

I think we as fans have a responsibility of sharing the clubs vision and objective and participate in promoting them too. As I had said earlier, every trophy is of great value and importance as the club itself and i therefore urge all my beloved fans, let’s support the club in every tournament…be it local, regional, national and even international and inter/continental…see you in 2nd round.
