Gor Mahia to skip Mapinduzi cup

courtesy of futaa.com

The Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia will not be gracing the annual Mapinduzi Cup tournament in Zanzibar scheduled to kick off in early January.

As confirmed to futaa.com by a source close to the club, the decision was reached in order to grant the playing unit enough resting time after a grueling 2013 season which also saw most players feature for the national team.

Time off

-We will not be going there for the tournament; the management thought the players would be fatigued by the time the most important games approach. The players will thus have time for themselves in the festive season, the source intimated.

Gor Mahia is set to play in the CAF Champions League, the CECAFA Kagame Cup all in 2014 as well as domestic duties which include the Kenyan Premier League, Top 8 Cup and the GOtv Shield.

Bataro, Gathu,Nasio, Angelo, Kiongera, Oboya, Odhiambo Peter, Mutiso and the other players who don’t get regular play time would have benefitted from this tourney. It would also be a great team building exercise and an opportunity for the new signings (if any) to gel with the team. But kweli in GM football is just an important secondary issue. Look at Predza’s handling of small cat despite challenges he seems focussed, so is AFC’s & Tuskers mangement. Hapa kwetu K’galo fans must intervene always.

Am sure a working “trip” to the fabled Zanzibari Island would have been an appreciated reward for the title winning team. Yes surely this is a bad joke from the bloated GM executive community. JUST ACCEPT THAT GM MANAGEMENT IS CONFUSED & THEY THINK ANY EXCUSE WILL WASH WITH FANS/MEMBERS.
COULD BE OUR CONFUSED LEADERSHIP IS TURNING OFF POTENTIAL TOP PLAYERS!
THE TWO BOBS HAVE THEIR WORK CUT OUT 4 NEXT SEASON. THEY WILL REALLY HAVE 2 PULL THE RABBIT OUT OF THE HAT IF GM IS 2 MAKE ANY IMPACT.

This is just a tournament and even if someone is sleeping on his job in the TB .with me i support the decision, the players must have a rest and time with their families after that the technical bench can arrange for the preseason friendlies, bloggers we have to understand that human body needs rest at times especially after hard work and the same applies to the players.i dont see anything much that this tournament will add to the team even tusker went there last year and played friendlies with almost all tanzanian teams and after that what happened?we never saw anything special that they had in that team.it is not a must that we attend all the tournaments, let the technical bench organize themselves, recruit new players and organize for preseason friendlies. let us not have a tendency of pointing fingers at others all the times without looking at both sides of the coin.thank you.

I read somewhere that Faiz is planning to send the team to Kisumu to play Western Stima and finally Siaya combined as part of Trophy display inclduing laugh laugh as part of pre season training. They then break to assemble back on the 3.1.14. Very ironical. Is it also true that Gor is after Geoffrey Kiz ito “Baba” the Ugandan international attacking midfielder that is as per “The People”. That would be a good signing for sure.

@voltage am also getting that story of kizito Baba from someone but i dont know whether it is true, but the guy is a good player if we can get him we are home and dry.ABOUT THE PLAYERS, I HEARD THAT THE CHAIRMAN HAD ORGANISED FOR THEM A PARTY at his home in siaya but am not sure about it,may be what voltage is saying about playing western stima and siaya combined is correct may be right.

I do not understand what is wrong with bloggers on this site. There is nothing wrong with the team skipping the tournament. I do not see the value addition it is going to add to our team this period when the league is on recess. Our KPL resume in mid February and this is along way as there will be no accrued benefit to the team whether the team does participate or doesn’t participate in the tournament. The benefits of participating in this tournament will accrue to TZ teams whose league are in process.

Gor Mahia executive and technical bench have all the rights to either send team to TZ or do something else that will benefit the team in the long run. There nothing wrong for the team being send to Kisumu or Siaya as these are the areas where we have a strong fan base.

Meanwhile Tusker FC last year participated in this Mapunduzi tournament but achieved position five in KPL. Can any blogger point out the ultimate overall achievement of Tusker FC that participated and eventually were runners up after Azam FC? Yes Azam FC won the tournament but did not win the TZ premier league. Final point to note was that both Azam FC, the winners and Tusker FC, the runners up fired their coaches.

In conclusion, apart from the prize money, these are useless tournaments that will not determine whether a team that participated will win the league or not! Let the player rest as we await for KPL, DsTV top 8, GoTV cup and CAF completions which are more important than rigorous offseason competitions. Even fringe players need to rest.

I totally disagree with bloggers on this matter. Let our players rest and enjoy holiday with their families and friends. We have along season next year.

Bloggers there is noone sleeping on the job if the office decide otherwise of not participating in the mapinduzi cup. I think the executive and technical bench are having good reasons and have weighed the merits and demerits of participating in this tournament.

If we bloggers have nothing to post, we better stopping posting nothing in this site. These postings are hollow and just shows how busybodies some of the bloggers are to portray that people are sleeping on their job. It is us bloggers who have nothing constructive to post or comment in this site.

We need to be talking about other things that will bring significant and meaningful changes to the club but not making lots of noise with nothing to picked from the blog to bring any meaningful change. We all need to be careful on what we post.

  • away games have always been a tricky affair for many kenyan teams, going to play in zanzibar and against foreign teams w3ould have been a good test for the team as far playing away is concerned. they would have gotten good lessons and opened up their spirits to be in front of foreign fans. ITS TOO BAD, GOR MAHIA MANAGEMENT DOES NOT SEE IT THIS WAY. THAT DECISION IS POOR AND GOR SHOULD GO THERE AND PARTICIPATE. BWANA RACHIER, LIFT UP THE SPIRIT OF THE FANS BY TAKING THE TEAM TO ZANZIBAR, YOU HEAR ME!

CAP 4 – The Bill of Rights IN:Part 2 Right and Fundamental freedoms, indeed i believe everyone has a right to air their opinion so long that opinion does not infringe on the right of others, it remains an opinion and there is no point vilifying others. So long as adequate information is not always available people will always speculate especially with a setup like what we have at our club where getting information is thru the media.

Cease Fire gentlemen. Cease fire. Just cease fire. Let us continue observing the truce. It is only for a short while; after all, the festivities will soon be over and we can take our positions and engage. For now just cease fire or make a tactical retreat if you wish to call it that. We are in a season of goodwill gentlemen.

Time will tell, time will tell. By June (nay March) we will have known whether concerns about signings & preseason preps will have been much ado about nothing.

Now desparate time calls for desperate measures so I hear BB is interested in rejoining K’galo (as per Supersport). I hope EC welcomes him back as we help hime rediscover his top form.

Finally on matters football one award I would propose for the ‘bloggers’ & other branches to initiate is a monthly cash award to the GM team everytime they emerge top scorers as a team in the league/FKF competition. This may encourage our team to out score opponents, hopefully entertaining(attacking) soccer and titles will follow. Or could the reward be if the team attains the highest positive goal difference be a better measure.

Let the players have time with their families after along season, the tournament will not add anything special to the team.voltage i saw gor mahia bus yesterday parking next to nyayo house in town,i think it was waiting for the players,so may be they have gone to nyanza which according to me is better than the zanzibar trip,we have a lot of fans in nyanza, remember gor is accomunity club associated with luos, let the players rest and relax with the fans in the villages of nyanza. the only thing the TB SHOULD NOT DO IS playing unnecessary tournaments that can result to injuries.Let us not bulldoze players with a lot of work, everyone needs some rest at times, the league will start in mid February there is still time for preparation, why should we put a lot of pressure on players while with us we are enjoying holidays with our families. They are also human beings and they may also need some time off the pitch to interact with other people and enjoy themselves.I support fully the players going to nyanza they have entertained us in Nairobi the whole season let them interact with the fans who are there in the village, the only thing the TB should not do AND I REPEAT, playing unnecessary tournaments in nyanza.Let us be considerate at times the players need some rest the zanzibar tournament will add nothing special to the team apart from the injuries that we may get there. To ODHIAMBOS,AWINOS ,ANYANGOS,OTIENOS,OSOGOS,NYABUTOS AND ONYANGOS who are there in the village it is your time to see sserenkuma, owino calabar, oboya ,jerry jagoal and other gor mahia players and interact with them, it is your time to enjoy with the players off the pitch.thank you.

@ Barefoot Bandit… Haha! I like that. Anyway, we shouldn’t judge other peoples opinion. Just drop yours and move on. I agree Kenyan players don’t perform very good on foreign ground but there must be a good reason why GM will not be participating… Let our players rest and be with their families they’ll have a very busy scheduled next season with very important matches to play so,… To me it’s ok if they take a break. Cease fire gentlemen!!!!!!

Gor Mahia’s new signing Julius Situmbeko’s deal has hit a snag after the player failed to arrive as agreed on the contract.

Gor secretary general George Bwana told supersport.com that officials from Power Dynamos were trying to hijack the deal and threatened to report the matter to Fifa accusing the player of double signing.

“It is sad that after we agreed terms with Julius Situmbeko who signed a contract dated 7th December and we even paid him the sign on fee as agreed the player has failed to arrive. We followed the laid down Fifa rules as the player was categorical his contract was ending in December 2013.”

“It is sad that people do not respect football rules and I have been getting phone calls from Dynamos officials claiming Situmbeko denied signing any deal and yet everything is on paper,” Bwana told supersport.com.

Supersport.com have in its possession the contract signed by Situmbeko and witnessed by Nkana captain Sydney Kalume with both parties in agreement.

An official from Power Dynamos who only identified himself as the Vice Chairman insisted Situmbeko was not for sale.

“As far as I know Situmbeko has a long contract with Power Dynamos and if anything Gor Mahia were supposed to negotiate with us directly,” the official noted.

Situmbeko acknowledges he had signed a deal with Gor but added, “I signed the deal but Power Dynamos have refused to let me go. I agree I was paid my signing on fee but I have requested to return it because the issue is going out of hand,” Situmbeko told supersport.com.

I have been following situmbeko’s issue in the zambia press. The zambians feel special for nothing. They had very bad comments on kenya you may think zambia is any better. Let the guy go if he feels special. This is Gor mahia.

Thx Oluoch for the info’. The situmbeko issue is appalling coz here is a situation a player has signed for a club and then his club fails to release him, indeed the offended club has a right to report the issue to FIFA and woe unto the player/club, FIFA’s wrath is nothing to wait for ask Egypt who aired their game against Ghana without FIFA’s approval, the fine was 2 million dollars. Indeed i did read in one of the Zambian blogs and LO! their attitude towards Kenya as a footballing nation is beyond mention here. Really in my opinion i have watched their league and there is nothing special about their players. The difference has been they have had a stable football authority while we have had wrangles for almost 20 damn good years. I can bet here Kenya is going places look at the kind of signing the big 4 clubs have done clearly open competition. Players here are now better paid compared to 10yrs ago. With our league u will not be sure whoz gonna win it anymore. FKF is looking at ways of sponsoring clubs who participate in international tournaments. I bet 2 years from now if we maintain the same tempo both at club and international level we will all smile. Happy New Year ya’ll.

How fast we 4get.Remember how just the other day we in Gor Mahia vented out our anger on Kasarani seats & almost lynched our Chair & S.G all because they ‘dared’ sell our prized MVP Dan “Flava” Sserenkuma.
Anyway bloated EC should have negotiatated with his club. That’s exactly why ‘Flava’ deal fell through coz the foreign club dealt with Dan sidestepping GM.
And akina ex-Chair Mwango claim that we have an office that knows what its doing.
Even Walusimbi’s deal is running into troubled waters coz his club Villa is playing hard ball.
Did our EC confirm the player was a free agent to sign a contract with him.
STRUCTURES, STRUCTURES AND A FULL TIME SECRETARIAT WILL SAVE GM FROM RUDIMENTARY ERRORS
