Ideas to move the club forward

This was posted by Blogger Mwakio and warrants further discussion

We have made such proposals before but none of the EC members is thinking otherwise. We as fans should continue to appeal to EC to consider the following proposals that include the following:-
1. COMMERCIALISING OF CLUB ACTIVITIES: Commercialise sale of the club merchandise with real logos, water marks and security features that cannot be duplicated by fraudsters.

1. FOOTBALL EXCHANGE PROGRAMMES: Develop strategic alliances and partnership with foreign football clubs and academies in England, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Brazil, United States, Mexico, France, etc to explore exchange programmes. This can also run alongside with having relationship with diplomatic missions of these countries on technical matters and exchange programmes.
2. THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX: Innovative ideas such as the admin to come up with production of different merchandise like popular current replica affordable jerseys, unexplored caps, cups, track suits, towels, pens, jackets, watches, mobile phone covers, stickers, bags, pencils porches for school going kids, scarves, tyre or spare wheel cover, etc.
3. PROFESSIONALISM: Set up secretariat of the club with hired and salaried CEO, finance & commercial director, marketing manager, fund raising and sponsorship director, administration manager, procurement manager, football development manager, scouts women and youth football officer etc. However we can start with five fulltime official with a purpose of expanding the secretariat further to 18 full time staffs.
4. CONVERTING CLUB INTO A COMPANY: Turn club to a professional outfit and company.
5. SEASON TICKETS: Come up with secured club seasonal tickets at discounted rates.

7. STRONG FINANCIAL BASE: Come up with sound fundraising activities from members ranging from monthly contributions from kshs.100, 200, 400, 500, 1000, 2000, 5000 etc to target 40000 fans throughout the country.
8. ORGANISATION STRUCTURE: Come up with governance structure and transparency blue point to build confidence of fans and other stakeholders.
9. CIVIC EDUCATION AND SENSITISING FANS: Develop training programme for fans to avoid incidences of hooliganisms.
10. DEVOLUTION STRUCTURE: Empower branches to co-ordinate club activities.

12. EXPLORE CAPITAL MARKET FUND RAISING OPPORTUNITIES: Develop massive fund raising activities such as exploring avenues of fundraising from the public under capital markets authority rules through IPO or private placement
13. INTERNAL CONTROLS AND ACCOUNTABILITY: Appoint external auditor.
14. GOVERNANCE STRUCTURE: Establish board of directors during the transition period that will see club’s long term strategy, vision and mission statement being developed with clubs core values and strategic intent.
15. BROADCASTING OPPORTUNITIES: Set up Gor Mahia TV that will work together with the league sponsors to bring live matches that are not shown by DSTV.
16. FOOTBALL YOUTH DEVELOPMENT: Set up academies of all age categories such as under 12, under 15, under 18 and under 21 teams with funding to be sourced from government institutions, NGOs and other sponsors.
17. GENDER SENSITIVITY: Develop women football team that can be associated with our Kogalo divas.
18. ETHICS AND CODE OF CONDUCT: Develop code of conduct for the new office bearers and publish what the stakeholders expect from our fans in terms of discipline and positive engagements.

20. SUSTAINABLE FINANCIAL BASE: Develop a long term and sustainable fund raising strategies without over burdening the fans
21. MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME: Develop a leadership programme for future club leaders, board of directors and management.
22. STRATEGIC ALLIANCES AND PARTNERSHIPS: Develop alliances and partnership with foreign football clubs and academies in Europe (Manchester United, Arsenal. Chelsea, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Lyon, Bayern Munich, Ajax, Inter Milan, AC Milan, etc) African teams (Zamalek, Supersports, Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs, Sundown, Esperance, Asec, Asante Kotoko etc), South American clus (Corinthians, Boca Juniors, São Paulo, Independiente, River Plate, Flamengo, River Plate, Velez Sarsfield, Nacional, Santos etc), North American teams (D.C. • The day Gor mahia FC will implement the above policies I will personally donate six million Kenyan shillings to the club. I promise.. But currently what we see in the club is not fully convincing.

  • ….and this is why I keep on saying that the club is still young until the day the above issues are addressed. The club is still in its nascent stage compared to others. For example T.P Mazembe bought an aeroplane in 2011. I support the above proposals.

We don’t have to reinvent the wheel…..let gor mahia EC visit TP MAZEMBE and see for themselves how selfless leadership and ruthless execution of leadership can do to an African club. It sad ! Very sad that gor mahia has been around for over 30 years and we still call ourselves , community club ! !

  • Looking at proposals on how the club can be moved forward, I particularly looked at the bloggers proposal number 3 by Mwakio Professionalism. The advantage I see in this is that the playing unit and its leadership would have room to concentrate in their department. This would ensure that they do not get mixed up in the management issues which history has proven causes a down slide whenever a club is going through challenging times. With the objective thought thinking that this could take off by just having five competent personnel, is brilliant. Of course a budget would still need to drawn. Please start somewhere if nothing has started but if it is on the go, then may be you could give us the information that within your judgement can be divulged.

Let me echo again on membership and illustrate how GMFC can raise Kshs.10 million annually from 5bob/day
As per Bwana GMFC has 110 branches and I know that each branch must have 30 members.
Now let every branch chairman contribute/month -1,000
    ” ” ” ” Treasuer ” ” – 750
    ” ” ” ” Secretary ” ” – 750
The balance of 27 members contribute 150/month -4,050
    Total per branch /month -6,550
That means the 110 branches will contribute=
    110 x kshs.6,550.00= kshs.720,500.
THEN LET EVERY EC MEMBER CONTRIBUTE KSHS.10,000 per MONTH THEREFORE
    14 EC members x 10,000= kshs.140,000.00
    TOTAL PER MONTH = 140,000+720,500=860,500
    ANNUAL INCOME FROM MEMBERSHIP=860,500X 12 =10,326,000.00
OF COZ ACCOUNTABILITY, TRANSPARENCY AND RIGHTS OF MEMBERS ARE PARAMOUNT MAYBE THAT’S WHY EC IS NOT WILLING AND PREFERS HARAMBEES AND ELECTIONS WHERE THEY CAN FERRY IN “MEMBERS” IN BUSLOADS @ KSHS.100.00

  • Brother Mwakio, these are great ideas that can take our club somewhere in future. EC please why can’s you just consider to implement 5 or 7 of the above proposals.

We need ideas such as the ones highlighted above. Heko Mwakio and bloggers let us put pressure so that our office under the able leadership of Ambrose Rachier can think of these ideas.

Thank you admin of this site…..this my posting is spot on and we need to change our club just as bloggers have noted the success of TP Mazembe.

Gor Mahia has a huge fan base that can the source of our revenues in all forms. Can we explore this and take this beautiful club somewhere?

On our four remaining matches, it is my prayer that Our Lord will shower us as the green army with victories upon victories against Karaturi, Tusker, Muhoroni and Thika United in the mighty name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour…..AMEN and AMEN

Let all the bloggers say a big AMENNNNNN

  • MR. MWAKIO I fully support you and wish that you would be the chairman of Gormahia because you are the first blogger I have come across who really understands the problems of this club. When are these plans coming to effect? These plans are long overdue.
