Interview with Sec Gen Chris Omondi

In this interview, Chris Omondi discusses the club’s search for sponsorship, noting that the club has been unable to find sponsorship due to the fact that the Tuzo sponsorship ended in the middle of the financial cycle of most companies and thus could not be budgeted for by the companies. He also admits that hooliganism played a role in making it difficult for the club to realize sponsorship.

According to Omondi, the KRA has not contacted the club directly but instead contacted Tuzo and the KPL. Nevertheless the club has sent overtures to KRA to discuss the high amount (Ksh 118 million).

Players have not received their March salaries. He thanks the players for maintaining their form despite not being paid in a timely manner.

The paybill number is a short term solution to meet the club’s operational budget especially salaries and travel expenses. .

He denies that there are any officials who are “eating”.

  1. SG, don’t send overtues to KRA, engage them instead. On sponsorship is it the financial year calendar or the goons within us which is which? In July most companies start their financial year, is there hope for a sponsor? How about countrywide membership and the SACCO which was a campaign agenda? If hooliganism is a hindrance to the sponsorship why can’t a team like City Stars get sponsors?

  2. Players have not being paid their march salaries, therefore it means even the April salary has not been paid….we are in May, aren’t we ?

    WE SHALL OVERCOME !!!!!

  3. Goodmorning,

Please advice the SG to expound on the way forward of the club financial security and avoid saying that Pay bill number is for a short term solution? supposing 350100 manage to raise 200Million what will he say. We dont want to read along the line of your incompetents. Chris Omondi Secretary General Plan yourself and mind your language GOR MAHIA FC IS NOT A KIOSK expand your horizon ??????????

  4. SG,

The pay bill number 350100 amount are reducing EXPLAIN? Yet Players have not being paid their march salaries

  5. We do not need a million persons,we simply need 20 thousand LIONS to stand with the club.Let the office approach and recruit this great people .profile them and approach them and then ask others like me to register as members giving 200/- a month.

  6. Treasurer report indicate elsewhere that April salaries have been partly paid through EC members contribution. That’s a contradiction with what SG is saying. Check with the Treasurer please.

Be creative with how you sell ur merchandise, charge VIP 600/= and give them all the merchandise worth 100/= for free.Same thing, just a sales gimmick!

Look for multiple sponsors, shirt, shots, training kit, Water etc to make it easy for the companies.

Engage county govt on sponsorship and consider barter trade, City Stadium for maybe training kit sponsorship. U can save on ground hiring fee.

Engage PR folks during this time u r soliciting for sponsors to sanitize the brand.

    Opportunities are endless.

  7. @#1 Dan…If you think hooliganism doesn’t affect whether or not a company will sponsor a team, then let Gor’s fans continue with this behavior and see if they will get a sponsor even if they win both the League and GOTV cup

  8. Steve Abade, we need to talk. You are a thinker. I will engage you one of this fine days. This’ the way bro.

  9. So, who’s saying the truth about players salaries? Anyway seems like a lot has happened while i was a way.

  10. @ingo, Please re-read my comments.hoolihanism plays a part but Santos and Fernabache still have multiple sponsors despite their behaviour, same as some teams in Italy. By the way why isn”t City Stars and Mathare getting sponsors yet they have no cases of hooliganism. And why is Mumias still with Ingwe despite the refs always being victims of Ingwe louts.
Since our players have decided to give their all we will strive to show that we can play and win despite the setback

  11. Me thinks EC (especially the new officials) should be more proactive rather than re-active.

Case in point it doesn’t matter that Tuzo sponsorship ended mid-year.
EC knew that the sponsorship deal was expiring on 31/03/14. Office should have engaged Tuzo & other potential sponsors at least 6 month prior. Couple of bloggers raised the red flag around that time.

This KRA issue is not being tackled forthrightly.
EC admit the blunder, engage KRA directly and sort out the matter “hasta pronto”.
As you blame Tuzo mara KPL GM accounts remain frozen and players unpaid.
Its GM to provide the records for KRA to determine the correct tax liability.
Or is it that GM’s previous EC did not keep any records?
The truth is KRA only involved Tuzo/KPL and the bank when the EC ignored the tax issue.
That’s how KRA deals with non-compliant and stubborn taxpayers GM’s no exception.
EC JUST SORT OUT THE TAX ISSUE SO THAT PLAYERS CAN BE ASSURED OF THEIR WELFARE.
NOW IS NOT THE TIME FOR GRANDSTANDING OR LOOKING FOR SCAPEGOATS.

  12. @dan: i wish you’d research abit more on business and marketing before you make your posts. if i could give you a hint in the kenyan scenario, take a case of politician A and B. Politician A can stand up insult someone and nobody will pay attention. politician B makes the same statement and the whole country stops to ponder whats wrong. that is but a small aspect, i will not go into the others like reach, market , influence etc.

  13. sometimes back in 2012, some k’ogalo fans came from Australia & attended Gor mahia match in green jersys .Did they disappear or nobody cares about their support. If these fans can support Gor with $10000 /month that is roughly 8.7million/ month. Have anyone engaged them or we think that they r not Gor mahia diehard fans.

  14. @Dinga, Kenya politics rewards the exact opposite characters that a political process should reward. The winners are usually those that are involved in all manners of uncivil/shady behaviours and with dubious characters. The examples are all over for you to see.
I also tend to believe that business is a matter of taking risks. Can someone tell me why a good outfit like City stars in still sponsorless yet there is no risk there.
The sponsor that will take us up will reap the benefits as I beilieve a good sponsor should also engage the fans in good sportmanship and CSR activities while imparting on them the benefits of being of good character and its benefit to both the sponsor and the club. Unfortunately TUZO just gave us money and didn’t even bother to accompany or encourage the fans when they went for CSR.
Having said that let’s clean our house as we have alot of housecleaning to do.

  15. Michael Odhiambo Ogolo, your individual support is equally important, just be individually active on 350100 and if all of us, not in a small way of 10/= but in a modest way of more than 200/= then we’ll be there.

I personally not understand someone claiming to be a fan sending 10/=, that reflects how little you view the club.

Player will be nice for 2 months only after that, their landlords will come knocking, their wives will start grumbling and the current good run will come to a grinding halt.

This must not go on beyond this month. Patience has limits, can’t be stretched for so long. The players resolve will crumble. Let’s all move fast to resolve this lead by the EC.

  16. Ta apenjou jotend luo to kare nikanye dak gikonywa katagiparo.Tho awuoro oganda luo be waonge gi hera ndii.

  17. OUR LEADERS SHOULD COME IN AS WELL. ANYWAY WE ARE MORE THAN WILLING TO BE PART OF THE 1000000 PPLE BUT WE ARE YET TO SEE THE GROUND WORK. HOW DO WE GET TO BE PART OF THESE 1000000. I AM MORE THAN WILLING TO GIVE 1000 PER MONTH. PLS OFFICIAL BE MORE SERIOUS WITH THAT AND LET US KNOW

  18. I urgently propose a kogalo night / day organized and marketed like the popular Luo nights at Avenue like city stadium. We Can engage, enjoy, entertain, and all that appartins. The proceeds can go to the club. Let’s not wait to see thle players patience over stretched then we start the usual blame games, name calling, and reactionary behavior. All management need to be strategic to succced.
