In a confusing turn of events, Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier has told the Daily Nation that Hassan Oktay will not be named head coach until other candidates are assessed as well.

Story from the Daily Nation

Hassan Oktay is not yet Gor Mahia coach but is among the four possible candidates in the race to take over the vacant head coach position, club’s chairman Ambrose Rachier has clarified.

Rachier has said that Oktay will face off with Stefano Maccopi from Italy, former Asante Kokoto coach Steven Polack (Finland) and a fourth coach who is believed to be of Russian descent.

The successful candidate will step in the shoes vacated by Englishman Dylan Kerr who has since joined up South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) outfit Black Leopards.

Press reports had on Sunday indicated that Oktay had taken over the reins at the Sportpesa Premier League defending champions and he even gave halftime pep talk during K’Ogalo’s 1-0 loss to Kariobangi Sharks in the Kenya Premier League Super Cup at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Oktay will also travel with Gor Mahia to Blantyre as they seek to defend their slim 1-0 win against Nyasa Big Bullets in Caf Champions League preliminary round. The winner of this tie will meet the victor between Cameroonian side USM de Loum and Nigerian side Lobi Stars.

Rachier has  described Oktay as an experienced coach and affordable placing the Turkish-Cypriot in pole position to be named as Kerr’s successor. “Hassan (Oktay) has a lot of experience coaching in West Ham, he has also won the league in Thailand and speaks very good English having worked in a premier league team as an assistant coach, we felt attracted,” Rachier said.

Stephen Polack nyale, in my own opinion

  • COMPRESSOR says:

To be sincere guys Black beery doesn’t deserve to play a head of Maloba or Boniface Omondi. Whenever he plays my heart is always on my hand. I’ll rather take Omondi a head of him.Bb lacks confidence and his lack is that he plays on left side thus easy to cut in for any player.

  • COMPRESSOR says:

BlackBerry should be benched if gor wants to score goals. I wish he finds a club a broad instead of Kahata

  • Barefoot Bandit says:

Let that new coach be a man who engages his brain before talking endlessly. Dylan Kerr really deserves some speech governor.

  • Jasego says:

Kenyan media please stop engaging Dylan Kerr in needless interviews about GM. He overtalks to the media and some things are detrimental to our brand. He left of his own volition so please let us have peace. He is now even offering to advise the New Incoming Coach on how to run K’Igalo including on the team dynamics. I know he means it in good faith but that is uneccessary as he should be concentrating on his new job. We have Zedekiah Pensionable for that please. Finally i don’t think we signed well enough as we require a Keeper then we release Odhoji,A playmaker for departing Kahata and A lethal foreign forward we Loan Mustafa. Weeping and wailing stopped being our portion long ago we don’t want to go back there please. Copy to Jamriambo

    • Jasego says:

Let us play Eliud Lokuwam in the meantime as he is young versatile and motivated much like Kariobangi Sharks forward Sydney Lokale. He might bloom just like Olunga did so no need insisting on Mustafa et al let Eliud Lokuwam play the out and out striking role. If anything he can’t do any worse than the strikers we’ve been fielding. @Musymo @BB @Original ama namna gani?

Coaches will come and go, players will come and go. The only constant is we the fans, so let us support who ever is there and dont get too attached to coaches, they are here for the job and will move if they get better offers. My only worry is that we are lacking creativity to take advantage of the numbers and turn it into revenue. @ Jasego you seem good at recruiting players, its time for fans. My simple mathematics is to aim at just 10,000 members. We have 9 home matches, if we are to say pay 500 per match that is 45M, 4500 in advance and may be a membership fee of 500 to make it 5000, that would be 50M. Just pay an advanced season ticket and since GM is a community owned, members would have a say in management. @ Jasego, recruit committed fans and our problems would be reduced.

I hear you Soka Jembe and will explore that option after consultations with stakeholders…

Good idea that needs to be implemented if not by yesterday. Somethings we might take lightly but they have weight your idea is pregnant with triplets my brother.

    • JamriAmbo says:

Spot on . register the togolese as early as yesterday. Mustafa be loaned.out. no repeat of 1989 episodes that threw us out of the finals because of poor planning and vested interest. Aduda tich otire

  • Jakoyo says:

Last week, I broke the news of the shortlist for interviews so I expect the new coach will not join soon…..ZiCO should be left to guide us to CAF champions league group stages. Oktay does not look impressive as he has no African experience, so are we giving him African experience with the super cup and now Malawi match ? That will be unfair to other candidates.

Coach believed to be Russian, it’s not a Russian coach but a Serbian coach going by the name Dragon Popadic.

    #in Zico, we trust !

  • CHARLES says:

let those who cannot perform be released to look for other clubs. we are busy releasing quality players and remaining with under performing. let get the right quality in time. Jasego we need a striker, goalkeeper and midfielder. Wafula is too good that he should be given time to play either at back or wing. let us be conscience of developing our good players na tuwache maringo ya kupendelea some players. Wafula if given the right attention he deserves, he could have been the best young player in Kenya today. it is just disrespect and ubaguzi nyingi that has hindered him from growing and realizing his potentiality.

  • Gor Player says:

You make Zico cry, we make you cry by posting disastrous results. It’s that simple!

  • Musymo says:

Ngala has clarified to Goal.com that Oktay is Gor Mahia coach and no other coach is coming. Rachier just said the opposite the other day. Gor is becoming an awful circus by each passing day. Hard times lie ahead……!!!

  • jaupanda says:

I appreciate the work media does. They keep us informed of what goes on and this is good. I however sometimes think differently on some issues they report on.
From the time Oktay’s name came out and his arrival, I have not heard nor red anywhere that he is the confirmed coach. I therefore think that this statement and I quote “In a confusing turn of events, Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier has told the Daily Nation that Hassan Oktay will not be named head coach until other candidates are assessed as well.gives the clear picture or the correct position.” does not give the correct position. I think that it is such statements that when not red with keenness, may cause panic and tension and thus interfere with the main objective.

  • Janam says:

If this coach is serious,he should release,
    1.Guikan
    2.Mustaffa
    3.Bonfas Oluoch
    4.Odhoji
Bring in a creative midfielder and a proven striker.

    Then Gor will go places

  • Capital G says:

I respect each bloggers opinion but on players, could you backtrack your suggestions coz what we are doing is more of damaging than constructing. Lets believe in our players and give them time to perform than criticizing them each time we give our opinion. the long time bloggers @ Dan original, Jasego, Jakoyo, Barefoot Bandit, JamriAmbo, Musymo and the guy who used to write funy Kiswahili can we revive the desire we had of changing Gormahia into a company with good management that will make our team prosper. We have resources but the way its being managed is pathetic. on issue of the new coach, i think its the first time im concurring with the chairman, this the only way to go on hiring a coach more so in a professional club like Gor mahia.

  • moses says:

May he not coach Gor;this gamble with coaches wa mtaani from England should end since they leave after13 months. ADOR should go for Steffano Maccopi

    • Oduor12 says:

If Okstay is not the coach why waste our meagre resources flying him to Malawi? Have we paid the players their Nov18 salaries etc, training ground fees-Gor player please confirm. Will the other 3 coaches also be similarly be given such practical tests?

      • Oduor12 says:

Spotlight on Muguna. Is he the season 2019 passenger, the latest Odula saga? Having been the first player to be signed how long does he need to regain fitness? Was he subjected to a PET & medical before being contracted ama tumecheswa Odula style tena?

  • Barefoot Bandit says:

Strange happenings and musical chairs have begun very early this time. First Gor Mahia does not want to play Kahata in continental matches because they don’t want him to become cup-tied. Who cares? Why is Gor Mahia trying to be so nice to this Algerian Club? Why are we kind of pleading with the Algerians to sign Kahata……to the extent of sacrificing and jeopardizing our chances of progressing to the next round.

Then we are told Oktal is travelling with the team and the next minute, Alas! He has not travelled with the team! One mouth of Gor Mahia management tells us Oktal is not yet hired, then another mouth: he is hired and the deal is done? Let us brace ourselves for tough times. The “opaqueness” is so intense this time round. After al,l this is a coach that ok tal.
