Omondi , Lavatsa play pivotal roles as Kenya reaches final

Kenya made it to the finals of the 2012 CECAFA challenge cup after beating a hard fighting Zanzibar side on penalties.

The Zanzibaris had shocked Kenya when Khamis Mcha found himself wide open in front of the Kenya goal and he made no mistake. Kenya fought back gamely with Cliff Miheso and Mike Baraza coming close. The equalizing goal came when Gor Mahia’s Kevin Omondi floated a long ball into the danger area. A backpedalling Zanzibari defender headed the ball into his own net. The score at halftime was 1-1.

In the 75th minute, the Islanders took the lead yet again this time via the penalty spot. Kenya came back storming yet again and this time Ingwe striker Mike Baraza headed home a corner from Abdallag Juma.

In the penalty shootout, Edwin Lavatsa calmy slotted his attempt along with Baraza, Jockins Atudo and Abdallah Juma

Yesterday Many players did not impress and you could see fatigue all over. At the end of the penalty shoot-outs we carried the day and that is what matters in football. I’m very happy with this team; if they play together for a longer time it can really go places. We have to play a very tactical game against Uganda in the finals to score at least a goal within the first 30 mins

  • The way Lavatsa has played in CECAFA and the way he gets rare starting chances in Gor I’m sure Nandwa will go with hin to Ingwe. Looks like they are targetting all our players. We need to move fast and we need to start from the sponsorship issue. We need to get some fronge sponsors if Tuzo cannot handle all our issues

  • tactics cost us the cup as well as vested interest the two lads let down the team and by virtue of them being……………… to the coach we lost poor local coaches when will you learn

Congratulations to all players who took part in the just concluded tornament,i believe or rightly so, that K’ogalo sent recruitment agents to the tornament to scout for players that can take Gor Mahia forward in the quest for glory and trophies. reading my earlier comments, K’OGALO need a more serious sponsor, we want to be on the top, we must get that serious sponsor who has Gor Mahia at heart, not people trying to play politics and putting to many hurdles along the way, i personally agree with Loga that, when recruiting we should bring in better players than the ones we have or else there’s not need.
