Power Dynamos 3 Gor Mahia 0

It was Gor Mahia’s first real test as they prepare for the 2015 Africa Champions league. Gor Mahia fans could not have hoped for a worse buildup as Kogalo were hammered 3-0 in an international friendly match against Power Dynamos of Zambia.

And Gor Mahia have themselves largely to blame as they missed out on scoring chances including two penalties. The first one came midway through the first half when the referee awarded Gor Mahia a penalty following a handball. But Timothy Otieno saw his attempt saved by Joel Kanyiba the Dyanamos goalkeeper.

Dyanamos were then presented with their own penalty when Collins Okoth fouled a Zambia player in the penalty box. Kennedy Mudenda made no mistake from the spot and the Zambians went into half time leading 1-0 and buoyed by their goal.

As the second half started, Gor Mahia poured forward in search of an equalizer. The Zambians capitalized with a counter attack in the 55th minute to make it 2-0 via Richard Kasonde. The goal was similar to the first one as Gor Mahia defended high and the Zambians capitalized.

Gor Mahia were awarded a penalty in the 65th minute. Michael Olunga stepped forward to take it and blasted it over the goals in a manner similar to a rugby player kicking a rugby penalty.

Luka Lungu sealed the score in the 8oth minute.

It was the second succesive time that Gor Mahia has lost 3-0 in an international friendly. They went down by a similar score against Simba in September of 2014.

The strikeforce was blunt as expected. But the defence has not gelled and were ruthlessly exposed by the efficient Zambians. Gor Mahia defence appears to be attempting to play a high line which requires a lot of coordination and familiarity between defenders. A team that has practised how to exploit a high line will easily slice open your defence unless the high-line is well coordinated. And that takes time. Fans will remember how Gor Mahia fielded a completely new team against Ferroviario of Maputo in 2012. On that occassion, lack of coordination in defence also cost Gor Mahia three goals.

It should also concern Nuttall that players cannot take penalties under pressure. Continental events often end in penalty shootouts.

The good news is that a high calibre friendly has exposed Gor Mahia’s weaknesses before the Madagascans arrived. The onus now on the Gor Mahia technical bench to rectify this situation.

Line-up : Jerim Onyango, Musa Mohammed, Benard Odhiambo (Dirkir Glay), Haroun Shakava, Kevin Oluoch, Khalid Aucho, Ronald Omino, Collins Okoth, George Odhiambo, Michael Olunga, Timothy Otieno

  • A good lesson for TB to make amends in the general lineup as we are really running short of time to competitive games. All the same I believe we can seal the loopholes. Best of luck.

Eeeh. ….so its only zambians who believe in thrashing teams in friendlies. Otherwise what I saw today I will keep to myself and trust me those players we bought are not football players.

Marking was the biggest problem. Some players evidently lacked match fitness Gatusso being the obvious case. Some should be shown the door in the second leg. How i wish the foreigners had been signed before CAF deadline.
At least now we know where we stand regarding the squad to play continental.

Having watched the match I can pick some positives. Wafula and Omino despite their ages are potentially good players. Olunga, Timothy and Berry need to workmon their combination.Otherwise I still believe we got the best from the local market as well as what we could afford from outside the country.
If and when that team gells I don’t think we will have problems locally. In Africa we don’t stand much chance as everything local is working against us. IN CECAFA we can go far but let’s wait and see. currently what we can do is to encourage the boys as they are literally good though maybe not as good as some of our fans would want

Let’s keep in mind most of the recruits (both players/TB) drove a hard bargain when being signed.
Like has been said very soon fans will be expecting performences worth kshs.1.8m, 1m etc further more the Bandari loss/wake up call/reality check takes a whole new perspective.
I count 7 players from 2014 with same TB na bado mambo ni gelling, combination this & that, formation this & that.
Lastly I hope payments of players /TB remuneration is not & will not be an issue in 2015.

what a thrashing and if i may ask,y was Boni oluoch signed. I thougt Ec was bringing a top keeper to help in the goal. So long as we shall have Jerry as no. 1 then we will not make any impact outside kenya.its not that I hate jerry but I will field Boni evn if jerry is in top form.what I know is that Boni is a gud keeper & knows how to talk to defenders unlike Jerry who is prone to blanders.pls TB let Boni be the first choice keeper. We need his expertise to help us progres to group stages.

Fitness was a big big issue u cld see it the way we marked our opponents. Imagine this is the team to play continental pleazzzzzz!

Both counter attacks were launched from the left where Nuttal prefers Oluoch yet I know he is not Gor Mahia’s best left back at the moment.Dirkir is good and should partner Shakava in the heart of defence. Midfield was uncoordinated with Gatusso looking a a bit rusty.Match fitness perhaps considering he had an injury and has not trained for long. Strike force not so bad we created more shots on target . What is missing is precision in front of goal. After missing the penalty and with the boos and calls from the stand Olunga was visibly shaken. Such a promising player may go the Odera way with the pressure we are putting on him. This was a friendly,we should have won.Unfortunately,we lost but all i took were positives

Scoring has been the greatest challenge and you saw it yesterday after being awarded two penalties and the ‘strikers/scores’ could not convert them.

Boniface Oluoch is better than Jerry but as much as we have a good or superstar goalie, with blunt striking force, the best we can ever achieve is a barren draw.

In terms of overall display, I think we are good (locally).

On the international scene, unless you are capable of scoring goals, you can never go past preliminary stages. At least these friendlies have exposed us and I believe the positives learnt can help us in our preparations

  • We shouldn’t be too negative about our team, It’s a lesson learnt before continental ties. I believe the coach will work on our striking force and our defense too. We’ll do well I know this is just a wake up call.

Let’s forget about CAF. This CAF team was hurriedly assembled like people without plan.

What I saw yesterday was pathetic. I always believe in giving team time to gel, but CAF has already begun and there is no that time.

EC failed to plan, failing to plan is planing to fail. They were not even sure whether to participate or not.

Timothy and Olunga are not new in this league, so pressure is NOT an excuse.
How can I have hope on a striker who have note even scored on KPL or GOTV to score in an international game.

Just wondering what Jerry didn’t do. Stop the penalty? Or stop the four strikers during the counter raid? Let’s be realistic. There is just this match a goalie can do. Have not hear someone commenting on the saves from Jerry in yesterday’s match. Unless some of us commenting on yesterday’s match were not even in the stadium.
Our team is good though not for continental but i am sure our real worth will be seen if we beat the Madagascar team and meet EC Leopards. These are former winners of the Confed Cup and will give us a run for our money.
I saw new good players like Wafula, Omino, Olunga and Odhiambo and I believe we have a better team than last year. What we need to stop is to exert ‘unnecessary’ pressure on the players. I realized that we still have good fans who applaud the team even after a loss as a sign of appreciation of the effort. In the fans mix there are also those who call for sub because oa player missed a penalty. Fortunately both sets of fans love the team only that they express it differently just the same way us bloggers express ourselves on this blogg

  • My concern is why we call an international friendly when you allow other players to take leave. Where were the walusimbis and others hyped?
Secondly, there was no proper publicity for this game. By saturday it was not yet clear if the game was on!!

On the other hand,we looked clueless and lacked ideas in mid and upfront.
Both teams are on preseason but its evident that we need to work very hard if we hope to challenge for trophies this season.

Something is happening on this site which I find disturbing. The last 3 articles have been very subjective and too opinionated. It appears someone is writing their opinions and then letting us comment or fight about it. The last few articles have simply been someone’s opinion which I find lacking in objectivity. What I see next is people fighting over the subjective comments by the writer. Others have taken the opinions as gospel truth. I fear this is bringing down the usefulness of this site. No wonder the level of maturity in the contributions on this page has drastically reduced. Even the comments are hard to come by. Admin, please wake up. Stop giving us your opinion but rather report us what happened in an objective manner. Some of the articles I see here are potentially inciting and are likely to endanger the lives of the players, the coach and the entire TB. Some articles are quickly setting up the team against the fans. Very dangerous trend!!!!

We were simply playing individual football, with no formation or lack of it. Fitness levels is very questionable and so is technical know-how. And is it not too soon in the season to make fans worried with the unexpected performance.”GOR IKO DOWN SANA” and i hope none of you guys will be labelled a FOOL or an IDIOT for expressing your opinions without fear or favor.

Gor mahia has a very long way to go be it locally or continental.

Gor was outplayed and humiliated by a well organized team. The Zambians were simply very good ball players who new how to hold, and when to spread and breakaway from our boys. MPIRA AKILI.

Funny for us as fans. The EC has literaly got theplayers we wished came to Gor and now all over a sudden we have gotten another hare to hunt. Yes, we were outplayed yesterday but surely the sun still came out today. That means that we have another day to correct our mistakes. To me some of our players lookd ‘fat and heavy’ but to me that’s because the season has just started. Maybe when we change to August to May there will be no excuse though the Zambian calendar is the same as ours.
Let us criticize as much as we want since we are all entitled to our opinions but I believe we have a good team but not one for winning the CAF cup or even reaching the group stages. I have learnt to accept that i must fit my shirt according to the size of material i have

    Reply
  • OGANGO TRAILER

@Dan Original, the size of your would be material in the name of Gor Mahia players is really worrying and the TB can not even read the game and advise them otherwise or they were also out played technically until they ran out of ideas.
Any person who keenly watched the match should have noticed the Zambians playing two touches only; and with ball flowing in all directions until third quarter of the field. At some point they turned the match into a practicing session having realized the opposition was too weakened to pose any threat. Even if the referee was to award more penalties am sure Gor could not have scored even without a keeper in between the post.

    Reply
  • Dan Original

I happened to watch and defnitely saw the shots that were stopped by their keeper. Meaning that without a keeper between the post even Tomothy’s penalty would not have gone in, not forgetting Olunga’s header.
Let’s not cloud our eyes with too much pessimism to the extent that even the little good things we decide not to see.
A wise person takes challenges as a lesson. The coach really pointed that out. So guys do we ask for friendlies against Mumbi etc and win so that we are happy. We asked for bigger and better friendlies and we got. Now we are lamenting that we lost and were outplayed. So what do we want us gor fans.
Even Bayern was walloped over the weekend and conceeded the same number of goals they conceeded in the whole of first leg. Maybe their fans are also now all over the net castigating Gudiola, Neur, Robben etc the way we are doing.
I still salute the fans who despite the team losing applauded them even if it just to say we are still with you though you were walloped

Guys, you get me wrong on this one. I am not saying that guys should not criticize or give an opinion. What I am saying is that the author (the article) should be objective or/and neutral for the purpose of all the readers. Opinions should be left to the readers like you and I. Do you know why main media houses (especially the newspapers like Nation, Standard etc) have an editorial section? The reason is that they are supposed to be objective in reporting. The only area where they are allowed to be opinionated is at the editorial section. Otherwise they are seen to side with a section of the readers

  • @Pmawego, the admin sets the tone of debate on this blog. After all he or she is the admin. On the above article, i don’t think there would have been a better way to put it down. Let us not sugarcoat any flaws.

This is pre-season. The team has just started but from the few friendlies we have had, we are playing worse than last pre-season. Last season we were lucky to have three very hard working, disciplined and focused Ugandans and i was hoping that my brothers would learn a thing or two from those boys. I fear they learnt nothing. The boys i saw yesterday must have indulged in very bad habits over the break (I see some taking the funny drinks in the neighbourhood always accompanied by you know who).

Please our players, when you ask for millions or even hundreds of thousands of cash gotten from fans in Gor Mahia, please try and be a professional. A break of only 2 months should not kill your fitness level. The break should not make the coach start over again in all the lessons he has taught you. Yawa! Even at work people rarely get more than a month of leave to just go sit somewhere, drink, eat and and get fat. Yawa.

The only difference between Ugandan players and my Kenyan brothers is where their dreams reach. Some are now satisfied having signed for Kogalo. They are now celebrities who can walk with a bounce in the estate. They can now get all the good girls. Wake up bwana!

I see people commenting about Oluoch, sorry to say this –but he is another silent drunkard that most of blongers don’t know.he is good but unless he stops his drinking habit more less at least three days before a game he will always appear unfit as was the case yesterday.
I like Jerry very much but, it’s high time he pave way for the newly signed goalkeeper.

How can we fail to score two penalties………hapana hiyo siwezi kubaliana nayo.

The coach and the TB kazi kwenu, give us a winning team period.

@Dan Original, it is not about being pessimistic but rather accepting the reality as it is; that the “material” that we experimented with yesterday is questionable in the way they played.
We are all aware that most of the latest new signings will not participate in the CAF cup and no wonder some of you have already given up even before kick-off based on yesterday’s observation. The clapping and applauding was mockery if you know what am talking about. It is either they pull-up their socks before “Pressure-cooker” bust open or else..God Knows..!

What we are pointing out is simple and straight forward ; that GOR player(Read Dan Original Material) must up their game irrespective of whether you like it or not or else they will struggle even in the local competition.

@Pmawego,i catch your drift. The main article to remain factual and objective while contributors can differ in opinion which is to be expected of such a diverse group of people. There is no need to get too emotional or personal about other people’s posts. Someone once taught me that when you realize someone is saying or doing things just to get a reaction, the best thing to do is give them the contempt card. The more you ignore them the less they get motivated. Finally, can someone tell me what our official kit is? We signed a kitting deal with Joma, even played the tail end of last season in Joma kits, then the players attended off season functions in Legea jerseys and we played yesterday in Under Armour. They all look good to me. Excuse my irrelevance but i wanted to know so i can become compliant for the new season

@symple, under armour is an American kit wear it was donated to kogallo by a local nairobi politician. Kogallo still remains bound to joma kits for all official matches……in all competitive matches this year, kogallo is bound by joma. Legea kit is an extra pair of jersey which is used either in training ground or formally in meetings and conferences.
