Rama Salim set for SA trials as Gor Mahia sign trio

Gor Mahia midfielder Rama Salim is scheduled to undergo trials with South African PSL side Bloemfontein Celtic.

The playmaker has been plying his trade for K’Ogalo, and was until recently on loan at Qatar side, Al-Markhiya. According to sources, the 21-year-old player will be reporting for pre-season training at Celtic, who came back from the off-season break on June 26.

Capped seven times by Kenyan national team Harambee Stars, Rama Salim is a highly rated player, who, if he does eventually sign, will be relied upon to fill the gap by the injured Keagan Buchanan.

Soccer Laduma reports that Celtic coach Ernst Middendorp has previously revealed that he is looking to bolster the team with players of pedigree in key attacking positions, as Phunya Sele Sele look to build on their sixth place finish of last season.

If Salim does indeed eventually sign after his trial, Phunya Sele Sele will be hoping that he follows in footsteps of Frank ‘Gabadinho’ Mhango, who became an instant hit at the club after signing from Malawian side, Big Bullets.

Gor Mahia sign trio

Ugandan striker Arthur Semazzi has signed a one and a half year contract with Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia.

Semazzi has previously played for Lweza FC, K.B Lions, URA, Bunnamwaya, Police, Victors and SC Villa. He becomes the fifth Ugandan player to feature for K’Ogalo. Others are striker Dan Sserunkuma, Israel Emuge, Geoffrey ‘Baba’ Kizito and Godffrey Walusimbi.

Semazzi is among five players’ signed by Gor Mahia on deadline day of mid-transfer season. Others are Charles Bruno (Thika United) Simon Mburu, (Posta Rangers), Kennedy Ayong (Nairobi Stima) and Ian Niva (Australia).

Ayong and Bruno come in to bolster left fullback and central defense roles respectively while Simon Mburu will join midfield pack. Ugandan Semazzi and Niva will provide new strength in striking force ahead of premier league second leg.

The signings brings K’Ogalo’s newcomers tally to seven following earlier confirmations of midfielder Collins Okoth (unattached) and striker Timothy Otieno (on loan from Talanta FC).

Mr Oswozo Moziek these are good questions, someone please explain for all of us, we need to know our players. Ayong should be the brother of Ato,sometime back they were both in Mathare after having featured for Gor in the 90s, maybe a bit over the hill now?; Mburu I think once played for Mathare or Tusker, but that was a big player if he is the one.Bruno and Gatuso should be very good additions, Timothy Otieno and Semmazi are good options upfront. Niva? no known qualities. CAUTION- I though the departures offered great opportunities for those players who had little play time so far, this should also be their chance; am talking of Dan Onyango,Obwoge,Kariuki and ofcourse proper rehabilitation and/or moulding of Blackberry.

@jathur gi ji, the Dan Onyango’s, Obwoge’s et al have not convinced the coach that they deserve regular play time. Otherwise, it would be dangerous not to sign new players because some unconvincing players exist. Let them fight it out for the starting line-up. Remember competition is very very healthy.

Albert@4……you always say that “you are worried about nothing”….when, perhaps, will you start worrying?

@fred odhiambo, why should you and I be worried. Gor has been there, it is and ever shall it be. What exactly is your worry if I may ask? Just do what you need to do. SUPPORT the club with all you heart.

The only time I will get extremely worried is when somebody will want to disband Gor Mahia, which of cause is highly unlikely. Moi tried and failed.

  • I am now relaxed at what I have just read. I have Faith in these guys. One is because Gor has not gone for who everybody would go for. I think this also lessens the preassur and instead allows the player to grow in confidence. Just a thought.

  • I think that all new sighning were done with Bobbys approval & any player who will be a flop will be on Bobs lack of making them perform to his expectations. Rem that this is the yr that we shall evaluate Bobby Williamsons performance by judging him on Kagame cup,Gotv shield cup,Tpl &/or Dstv super cup. If he wins only one of those 4 cups then he will not have performed to our expectations. He is a highly rated tactician & he cannot only win a trophy, we want trophies. we lost 2 trophies 2 tusker & we r n

  • Bloggers let us not complain, every time somebody raises a concern it is seen as a complaint! Nevertheless we understand the club has financial constraints therefore we shall live with the signings , come rain or shine !

  • @Ja thur gi ji- You seem very subjective in your analysis. On one hand seem to want to know your players before you accept them while on the other hand you say you have accepted the Semazzi et al before you have seen them play. Could this be this problem in Kenya where you are accepted or rejected depending on which part of the map you come from or which political divide or depending on your name?

Secondly, is GM trying to cut down on wage bill by allowing others to leave while recruiting fresh ones who will cost less. I am sorry but I just dont trust these guys at the EC. They are so capable of arm twisting our coach into accepting certain decisions.

Ooh Laa la..!!”I CAN SEE SOME LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL”.

Let us gives the new recruit opportunity to showcase what stuff they are made of instead of casting a lot of doubts.

I support @Kosero sentiments and it reminds me about the current on going world cup where many youngsters have become a revelation and the usual big names are struggling. In Gor Mahia the unknowns will become the talk of the day just as it has been the case in the previous generation where school boys became a hit from day one. Am talking about the likes of Tomothy Otieno from Talanta academy. We all can recall the likes of…………..
    1. Nahashon Oluoch “LULE”… Highway secondary
    2. Sammy Owino “Kempes”….. Nairobi Technical School
    3. John Okello “Zangi”……..Kisumu boys
    4. Nyangi Odembo “Aetillery”…Kakamega High
    5. Hesbon Omollo……………Eastleigh Boys
    6. Anthony Ndolo “Piki Piki”…Kisumu Boys
    And the list is endless.

In Gor we thrive in creating big players from nothing. So I believe these signings will be out to prove that they are worth donning the gor jersey.
Who knew Wanyonyi before he came to Gor? Infact AFC rejected him before we picked him up and made him what he is. Same thing we did to Masika. So these unknown players fo ours will shock the footballing fraternity

  • Sofapaka signed back Mieno around the same time & in similar circumstances that we took back Rama from the ‘cold’.
Now Smeow have earned a cool 1.2m from Mieno’s transfer 2 AFC.
Apparently AFC paid us 30k 4 Wanyonyi.
Our top players like Ade,Akumu have gone but what has the club gotten?
AFC got 4.5M from Wanga’s deal.
Instead the begging bowl is fast becoming EC’s trademark. As we worry about nothing I wonder if at this rate we’ll rule the region/continent anytime soon or is TPL our only goal.
