Siasia and 50 others interested in Gor Mahia job

Siasia celebrating with Naija U23 players

A raft of qualified coaches have applied for the open coaching position at Gor Mahia

Story courtesy of the Nation

Former Nigeria national team coach Samson Siasia is among coaches who have applied for the vacant Gor Mahia job even as the record Kenyan champions brace for a tough Caf Champions League preliminary round first leg clash against Malawi champions Nyasa Bullets at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani on Wednesday.

Siasia, 51, is remembered for leading Nigeria in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers before he was fired in October 2011 only to be reappointed five years later.

He led Nigeria Under-23 at the 2008 and 2016 Summer Olympics winning silver and bronze medals respectively. He also clinched the African Youth Championship with the Under-20 side in 2005 among some of his career highlights.

By Friday afternoon, a whooping 48 coaches had tendered in their CVs eyeing the post that fell vacant after the resignation of Briton Dylan Kerr, who has since joined South African top tier outfit Black Leopards.

In a shocking turn of events, there’s no Kenyan coach who has officially applied for the job even as hopes for assistant coach Zedekiah “Zico” Otieno to be handed the job on a permanent basis dwindle.

Rwandese Olivier Karekezi, Portuguese Rui Nascimento, Italian Giovanni Petraglia, Serbians Goran Kopunovic, Dragon Popadic and Zlatko Krmpotic – the latter formerly at TP Mazembe of DR Congo and Zesco United of Zambia – have all sent their applications.

EYMAEL OUT OF RACE

Former AFC Leopards coach, Belgian Luc Eymael and current Rayon Sports’ Brazilian tactician Roberto Oliveira had been tagged as favourites before Eymael bolted out of the race to join Egyptian side El Geish SC.

As the search for a head coach continues, the 17-time SportPesa Premier League (SPL) have put Zico temporarily in charge.

“We are still sieving through the CVs till next week when we shall call for a sitting to zero down on what we have,” Gor Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Lordvick Aduda told Nation Sport on Friday.

Gor has posted success with coaches from the United Kingdom in recent times, notably Bobby Williamson in 2013 to Frank Nuttall and recently Kerr, a factor Aduda alluded will be considered during the vetting process.

“We want someone who will take Gor Mahia to the next level and have an impact in the Champions League, he has to understand African football,” he offered.

Meanwhile, the team continued with their preparations for Wednesday’s match with a double training session at Camp Toyoyo grounds, a day after the club cleared the Sh340,000 debt that had seen them locked out of the facility for weeks.

Their opponents Nyasa Bullets were slated to play Chitipa United in the quarter-finals of Malawi FISD Challenge Cup on Friday at Kamuzu Stadium.

Malawian portal, Nyasa Times, reported on Thursday that the country’s most popular club, through their CEO Fleetwood Haiya, had asked the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to reschedule the fixture as it would put them at a disadvantage before flying to play Gor.

FAM however disputed the complaint through media manager Gomezgani Zakazaka.

Another Malawi side, Silver Strikers had their Challenge Cup match postponed to allow them time to travel to Gabon. They made a stopover in Nairobi to play Tusker in friendly on Friday.

Aduda , what nonsense is this ? ….what CV are you sieving through ..ZICO is the automatic choice and has all the credentials otherwise any other name brought forward we will declare it as fake !

Just as you declared the new signings we made fake news but yet they are now bonafide K’Ogalo players. Zico will handle GM for one assignment ONLY which CAF preliminary rounds against Nyasa Bullets. Thereafter we in the Special Selection Committee not EC therefore No Judith Nyangi or Ben Omondi in attendance will decide which foreign coach to hire and bring him in immediately thereby returning Zico to his permanent and pensionable assistant coaching role at GM…

@Jakoyo, stop your madness and Zico will not be the main coach. Gor Mahia is currently bigger than local coaches and hence Zico has no capacity and capability in handling Gor Mahia. Zico does not have the capacity and mantle to handle Gor Mahia as the head of coaching. Stop yapping and you can as well form your team and hire Zico as the coach.

These are the reasons why Zico can’t be the best choice for Gor Mahia:-
      1. Ubeste and friendship in fielding will become the order of the day hence terminating other excellent careers.
      2. Lack of discipline as he is known with bhangi smoking at the bench and changaa menace. Zico is always drank and this reflects poorly with managing of the players and setting poor uncouched example.
      3. Bribery for fielding of players as meritocracy is through through the window for mediocracy when it comes to fielding.
      4. Poor tactical skills and lack of knowledge on the squad.
      5. Victimization of players that do not not suscribe to bribe him before being fielded.
      6. Losing of games due to poor fielding and substitutions.

  • Aduda & Co, Would it be suicidal to simply report that the coaches mentioned are the ones who have applied instead of hyping the figures to 40s & 50s of applicants Why not share their names.Focus should be on the best coach not on number of applicants. Hope for the best

Gor Mahia Official Judith “Nyangi” Anyango Charged With Fraud
    By Bonface Osano

Gor Mahia Organizing Secretary Judith “Nyangi” Anyango was today (Friday) arraigned in court to answer to charges of alleged fraud.

The complainant, Dave Ebero aka Dave Last Born, accused her of falsely obtaining Ksh 60,000 with a promise to secure him air ticket to Algiers, Algeria.

Dave, a staunch Gor Mahia fan, intended to watch the club’s CAF Confederation Cup group match away to USM Alger in Algiers in August this year.

She denied the charges and was released on Ksh15,000 cash bail.

The hearing begins on March 7, 2019.

Nyangi has maintained that Dave owes her up-to Ksh90,000 which she lent him and will prove it in court.

“I have lent him almost Ksh 90,000 in total and will prove that. Once he sent me a gift pack which I opened only to find bras and underpants.

When I demanded an explanation, he told me there was nothing wrong in falling in love. I dismissed him,” Nyangi told Nairobi News.

If you check the available online profile of some of those white coaches you just see a tourist in the making. In fact the most qualified should be Siasa having Olympic medal is a plus followed by Ze Maria aka japuonj and lastly Zico who has coached a national team in Africa.

@moses, spot on. It’s a pity we have fallen in love with white coaches at the expense of our own black brothers . Not just in Kenya, but all over the world. Inferiority complex and colonisation is to blame. But things are changing slowly look at Esperance, tp mazembe, Simba, yanga, as Vita, zesco…all developing and trusting their own, but in kogallo….a tourist visa coach with no formal contract is given the opportunity to shine and build their name, then go out there and tell the whole world how broke we are..ojoga kabisa, jomoko ofuo ka chieth !

    Why zico deserves it..

    1. Defense impact. His impact in Gor Mahia’s defence was felt as the club conceded only 31 goals and scored a record 71 in the 2018 season which was as a result of more freedom to the forwards granted by the solid base at the back. In his last season as head coach of a KPL club, Zico guided Posta Rangers to a fourth place finish with 45 points, 16 behind 2016 champions Tusker. Again, his team was among the best defensive sides as the mailmen only conceded 15 with only Gor Mahia doing better at 14.

    2. Prooven material. He came to within touching distance of the title in 2010 while in charge of a young Gor Mahia side he inherited from James Siang’a while still at the development stage. Ulinzi Stars won the title that year, beating Gor by only three points. He was sacked unceremoniously the following year having been overwhelmed by his two roles as head coach of Gor and the national football team Harambee Stars.

    3. Talent developer.under his guidance, Anthony Akumu emerged as a solid defensive midfielder, George Odhiambo won the 2010 Player of the Year gong, Eric Masika, Kevin Omondi and Musa Mohamed matured into first team regulars.

    4. He knows the club style of play.Working under Ze Maria and Kerr has certainly changed Zico’s approach to matches especially his attacking tactics. Add that to his solid defensive approach, then Gor Mahia is safe.

Zico is a worthy investment just like I brought him to the club a few years ago…i will present his case once more to the committee Ijust like real madrid have demonstrated that grooming coaches through their youth teams to later take over the senior team is a worthy long term investment.

@Jakoyo, the names you have mentioned were all players brought by the Late Sianga. Stop fooling us and take these your antics to a different place. Zico destroyed the careers of Kitawi, Owiti Duncan and many other players.

We are not kids my friend and you can market Zico to either your village team or any other team that will embrace retrogressive football.

I hope you had listened to Ngala today with Toldo in Radio Jambo.

Jakoyo please don’t waste much time presenting this statistics above to the committee in which i sit as i will tear that paper akin to Miguna Miguna tearing his flight ticket while shouting Am Not Boarding…I know you are Zico’s handler and Manager but in GM he is a permanent Assistant Coach to help Foreign Head Coaches navigate both cultural and language barriers while getting to acclamatise and know the players. He also steps in as stop-gap coach in scenarios such as we are in now. No one remembers coaches of second best teams that finish 16 points behind eventual league winners or are beaten to the title. People remember back to back winning coaches like Bobby Williamson…Frank Nuttal and Dylan Kerr no matter the kind of visa they held while working in Kenya. The likes of Anaba Awono…Zedekiah Otieno and Ze Maria are mentioned in passing as Trophiless seasons hold no memories worth recounting…Logarusic was special since from relegation threatened 15th position he came to within title reach that Tom Ogweno spoiled by overfeeding players at Burma Market and bringing Juju antics that demoralized players psychologically…

Be careful who you choose to be Gor Mahia coach. Choosing the right coaching style.

  • I think we should choose between Siasia & the Brazilian coaching Rayon Sports. However given our “infamous financial incapacity” PAYING THAT FOREIGN COACH all depends on the much vilified Zico getting us past Big Bullets into the next round of CAF.

    Reply
  • These 2 coaches, having considerable African experience, should be exposed to affordable talents that can add value to GM, i.e T&RAST instead of “passengers”. Offer the coach the usual 500k/month but with a ++bonus based (funded by) on CAF progression.

Then a Gor Mahia official will say they will sell them because after all, football is business. Selling players is only good if the transfer period allows the team to replace them, once the transfer period is over and the period for registering players with CAF has been closed, it affects the team negatively.

Tuyisenge’s imminent departure is why i brought Togolese Folly Klan Christophe a striker per excellence to train with the team on standby mode so that we get no shocks should any eventuality occur. We are safe guys…

    • How are we “safe” when Jausenge’s name is on our CAF list & can’t be just be swapped with that Togolese player? Where was he playing & many goals did he score in the last 2 seasons?Do transfer period & contracts hold any water for you transfer agents/EC?

Zico has deputised a number of good coaches ,he should apply what he has learned from them by moving to another club in or out of the country to gauge himself. Here at kogalo I dont think he can make it after all, the way the players respond to his commands is totally different from the way they respond to a foreign coach, at times it looks like he’s pleading with them

Our discomfort with Dylan Kerr’s verbal puking has been vindicated. Whatever he has been saying has caused so much damage. Let us brace ourselves for further damage. I believe it is what he said that has discouraged the good Brazilian coach.

CEO karauri contemplates wiring players salaries directly into their accounts come January 2019.This is to stop the damage to their image and brand as a multinational gaming company. It is their concern that despite honouring their side of contract, the corrupt club officials divert the monies to their personal use at the expense of player welfare who happen to be the driving engine in the betting business. Meanwhile Tyuisenge is headed to either Sundowns or Tp mazembe while Kahata is expected to join USM Alger at a fee of 8m.

We should also desist from .aking some co.mwnts on our caretaker coach .Assuming he doesn’t take us past the Malawi team there is little we will gauge the new coach on. Some respect to Zico as he is cirrently our coach whethwr we like it or not. Who knows, maybe he is the one helping the foreign coaches to excel at Gor
