Sserunkuma deal completed

Kenyan Premier League giants Gor Mahia FC have finalised the deal to bring Uganda International Dan Serunkuma to K’Ogalo.

SSerenkuma has signed a two-and-a half deal with the 12-time KPL champions, putting to rest all the transfer speculations regarding to his move from City Stars.

According to coach Zdravko Logarusic, the player who has been training with the team for the past few days, has been impressive at his former club and he expects him to shine at Gor.

“It’s now official Sserenkuma has joined us and I am happy to be with such a player in the team. However, we are still looking for another striker and other players,” said Logarusic.

Apart from the Ugandan import, Gor are also said to be closing in on the signature of Serunkuma’s teammate Oscar Mbugua and Rangers FC midfielder Joseph Njuguna.

“Mbugua and Njunguna have been training with us for the past few days and we’re hoping to sign them immediately, we are done with the paperwork,” added the Croatian.

However, on the highly rated Eddie Mubiru, Logarusic said that they’ll have to wait a bit longer for the teenager to recuperate before giving the verdict.

“It’s unfortunate Mubiru is injured but will give him time to recover first for us to assess him before making a final decision,” concluded Logarusic. Mubiru jetted-in the country late last week for trials with Gor.

Sserenkuma’s signing is good and will bolster our attack. Let’s hope he’ll maintain his last season’s form and gel up quickly with other strikers.

  • With Lavatsa fit again, i’m looking forward to seeing some magic from Rama and Serunkuma. These two players can change our fortunes. They are creative forwards and this should translate into more goals. My only concern is on the performance of players once they reach Kogalo. What normally happens?

Please EC address the issue of player contracts seriously. We are still reading about key players whose contracts are ending this and next month. What is going on? The other matter is of our club being so broke at the same time looking very rich on paper.

  • Good signing but for how long will Gor Mahia continue signing from other teams.
What i saw last weekend at city was good but in my opinion such an exercise should be aimed at recruiting new players rather than hosting estate teams in the name of k’ogalo fans.If we can’t have a youth system at GM then we should not claim that our primary objective is to promote football.Had we had a youth system, kiplagat, kitawi, kevin omondi and lavatsa would have developed to be some of the best players in the league which they are not at the moment.
There are various stages of development in almost every single aspect of life.No mater how bright a kid is,they can never go to the university direct from primary school.they have to go through high school for both biological and psychological development.
Our young players never developed because they were brought direct to sinior team.playing for a high school team and a premier league team are two very different things.
Are there any plans in GM to put up a youth sytem?we need to get our priorities right as a club.

  • @Mcosweto, you are very rights but we must start somewhere. It is the duty of Chairman and entire office to ensure we start projects that will help our club in future and these include the following:-
    1. FOOTBALL YOUTH DEVELOPMENT: Set up academies of all age categories such as under 12, under 15, under 18 and under 21 teams with funding to be sourced from government institutions, NGOs and other sponsors.
    2. GENDER SENSITIVITY: Develop women football team that can be associated with our Kogalo divas.
    3. ETHICS AND CODE OF CONDUCT: In order to address accountability, we need to develop code of conduct for the new office bearers and publish what the stakeholders expect from our fans in terms of discipline and positive engagements.
    4. STRATEGIC PLAN: Develop a 3 – year strategic plan of Gor Mahia with clear and sound objectives that include our mission statement, vision and core values that should be circulated to fans and other stakeholders.
    5. SUSTAINABLE FINANCIAL BASE: Develop a long term and sustainable fund raising strategies without over burdening the fans
    6. MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME: Develop a leadership programme for future club leaders, board of directors and management.

    I now rest my case.

  • Bro mwakio, for how long have we been here you call somewhere?don’t you think it’s cheaper to develop own player than to sign from other teams?
If we cant have academy then next better thing to do is to establish a reserve team for players aged 21 and below and then register them to district league. This will be better than taking high school graduates straight to first team.
How i wish we could get access to ECto know what plans do they have for this club.

  • Kassam Mwivangano

Bro Mwakio who will do all these.
Its sad that there are brains in the EC who already know about all these. Even you Mwakio know about that.
Actually the sadness is that the very very people consistently refuse to even embark on changing the constitution to rid GM of a whole school population being in the EC, you wonder what GM is.

Bro Mwakio and Dan who will do all that if even being human enough to settle dropped players meagre amounts becomes a press issue when GM collects 1m per game! And guys if you think hooligans have repented and surrendered, just wait until latest election/AGM time then it will be revived by the same same people..because they nust just be there.Bure kabisa.

  • @Kassam Mwivangano and Mcosweto, we as fans need to demand for paradigm shift where we need to take Gor Mahia to a different level. Why should we continue to compare Gor Mahia to Thika United, KCB, Sofapaka etc. We have a rich history and heritage that need to to move higher and higher and do things differently.

I had made such proposals before but none of the EC members is thinking otherwise. I shall continue to press on with such proposals that include the following:-
    1. COMMERCIALISING OF CLUB ACTIVITIES: Commercialise sale of the club merchandise with real logos, water marks and security features that cannot be duplicated by fraudsters.
    2. FOOTBALL EXCHANGE PROGRAMMES: Develop strategic alliances and partnership with foreign football clubs and academies in England, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Brazil, United States, Mexico, France, etc to explore exchange programmes. This can also run alongside with having relationship with diplomatic missions of these countries on technical matters and exchange programmes.
    3. THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX: Innovative ideas such as the admin to come up with production of different merchandise like popular current replica affordable jerseys, unexplored caps, cups, track suits, towels, pens, jackets, watches, mobile phone covers, stickers, bags, pencils porches for school going kids, scarves, tyre or spare wheel cover, etc.
    4. PROFESSIONALISM: Set up secretariat of the club with hired and salaried CEO, finance & commercial director, marketing manager, fund raising and sponsorship director, administration manager, procurement manager, football development manager, scouts women and youth football officer etc. However we can start with five fulltime official with a purpose of expanding the secretariat further to 18 full time staffs.
    5. CONVERTING CLUB INTO A COMPANY: Turn club to a professional outfit and company.
    6. SEASON TICKETS: Come up with secured club seasonal tickets at discounted rates.
    7. INFRASTRUCTURE AND FACILITIES DEVELOPMENT: Come up with a plan to acquire land and build a club stadia, training ground, club house and club apartments for players.
    8. STRONG FINANCIAL BASE: Come up with sound fundraising activities from members ranging from monthly contributions from kshs.100, 200, 400, 500, 1000, 2000, 5000 etc to target 40000 fans throughout the country.
    9. ORGANISATION STRUCTURE: Come up with governance structure and transparency blue point to build confidence of fans and other stakeholders.
    10. CIVIC EDUCATION AND SENSITISING FANS: Develop training programme for fans to avoid incidences of hooliganisms.
    11. DEVOLUTION STRUCTURE: Empower branches to co-ordinate club activities.
    12. OPEN DAYS AND FANS DIALOGUE: Have club open days with fans to encourage dialogues and understanding of clubs on weekly, fortnightly and monthly basis
    13. EXPLORE CAPITAL MARKET FUND RAISING OPPORTUNITIES: Develop massive fund raising activities such as exploring avenues of fundraising from the public under capital markets authority rules through IPO or private placement
    14. INTERNAL CONTROLS AND ACCOUNTABILITY: Appoint external auditor.
    15. GOVERNANCE STRUCTURE: Establish board of directors during the transition period that will see club’s long term strategy, vision and mission statement being developed with clubs core values and strategic intent.
    16. BROADCASTING OPPORTUNITIES: Set up Gor Mahia TV that will work together with the league sponsors to bring live matches that are not shown by DSTV.
    17. STRATEGIC ALLIANCES AND PARTNERSHIPS: Develop alliances and partnership with foreign football clubs and academies in Europe (Manchester United, Arsenal. • i fully support mcosweto and kassam mwivanganos sentiments.Mwakio lets not treat ourselves with kids gloves-we have failed miserably in terms of developing anything.with sianga at least we could say we were building a team for the future, but now we want to win the league at all costs then when we meet the likes of ferroviaro, apr and zamalek we will be brought back to earth as our players lack basic skills.look at the likes of eto-product of kadji sports academy in cameroon, toure brothers,zokora,gervinho,kopa,eboue-products of the highly acclaimed asec sifcom academy in ivory coast or even mubiru who we want to sign-st marys kitende product.Apart from blackberry ,wekesa, akumu, kitawi, opiyo and others who sianga moulded what have we produced since he left????-REJECTS WHO WE RELEASE AFTER SIGNING FROM OTHER CLUBS.There are rumours that we wanted to sign noah abich who was dropped by tusker!!!!!!! EVEN WITH SSERUNKUMA WE ARE TRYING TO SOLVE LONGTERM PROBLEMS WITH SHORTTERM SOLUTIONS.
Ukweli ambao kila mtu anajua na wengi hawataki kukubali ni kuwa bila GOR B,U-17 NA U-15 NA MKUFUNZI WA KIUFUNDI ALIYEFUZU-TECHNICAL DIRECTOR BASI TUSAHAU KUFIKIA YALE KINA DAWO NA MAGWIJI WENZAKE WALITULETEA 1987.

  • Sserunkuma is a short term solution to a long term problem.we as gor mahia have not produced any notable talent since george odhiambo-berry who was given a chance to prove himself by sianga and giddy.after what sianga tried to build we were myopic enough to veer off from the path he had shown us and went for instant success -buying old and dropped players from other clubs and naturally we also dropped down the table as our greed and failure to appreciate what sianga told us -that we have to nurture our own young players and give them time.thats why even i harambee stars even kina oliech and mugubi struggle basics-ball control and positioning.
Show me any strong club on earth without a structured youth development policy and i will show you a skyscraper with no foundation-hakuna kitu kama hiyo.

TUWACHE KUJIPUMBAZA-BILA GOR B,U-17 NA U-15 NA MKUFUNZI WA KIUFUNDI ALIYEHITIMU/TECHNICAL DIRECTOR,BASI TUSAHAU KUFIKA KIWANGO KILE KINA DAWO NA MAGWIJI WENZAKE WALITUFIKISHA MWAKA WA 1987.

Wuon pap i’ve admired your consistency on structures of football, actually i will repeat one statement i made in the week ‘i pitty players joining GM as much as i support and wish the club good fortunes in all competitions. For a case study look at our good players of 2010 and tell me if they’re moving up in careers or down in everything. But even those who’ve left have gone for much better offers financially and stability. We can tell readily that majority of those leaving never fitted in the horror movie system that is our preference and is why they’re so good before they join GM but deteroriate soön after they sign, they’re then booed, threatened and chased around, recent cases were ochomo, selenga, opondo, ochola. As wuon pap puts it there must be footballing structures and as Mwakio puts it mgt structures must be visionary and formal then bro Dan’s tolerance and hospitality chemistry blends us as we move forward. Remember when oduori12 talks many times about accountability he does so coz there’s no foresight from the managers who believe that fundraisers will suffice to cover for any deficit. To such mgt it makes no sense to set an academy! We can buy from harambees! And the roller coaster continues.

  • The moment we will elect officials who see GM as a hot business prospect is the time somebody will invest and implement all the things Mwakio is talking about. Currently some the EC’s only aim is to be part of the GM leadership and the publicity that comes with it. If we had business oriented officials we would now be thinking of making GM a limited company, sell shares to members, and invest in all the things we are talking about. I hope that day comes. We now need to think beyond the playing unit/tech team since if we get all those other things right these ones will automatically fall in place. GM is lucky to have the numbers in terms of fans.

  • HONOR YOUR PART OF THE DEALL

I am just back from paying my last respects to my late M.P, Prof. George Saitoti who was this afternoon laid to rest at his Enkasiti home in Kitengela but Gor Mahia is also part of my life.

Let me also join my comrades to express our dissatisfaction from the way the Executive committee- the highest decision making organ of the club, handling the players who are axes from the club. I totally agree that this club has greatly suffered from many years of misrule and embezzlement of the club coffers.

Make no mistake. I have no hard evidence against the EC but it is heartbreaking to see former players mingling at the club secretariat to demand their salaries. Our image continue to be tainted when certain aggrieved players leak such administrative issues to the media.
I have all along pointed out just like other comrades that the problem lies in weak structures. Whilst our constitution clearly defines the role of the chairman and the secretary general, in practise, this totally different. Our chairman, with all humility wields immense influence in the committee mainly due to his deep pockets( wealth).

I cannot really understand why such administrative issues come up if we have a robust and competent secretariat and I guess, qualified staff. I believe after the decision was reached to axe the players, the same was communicated to the secretariat who in turn prepare the arrears of the players and handed over to the accountant to effect payments. Period.
And if the officials have already emptied the club coffers, I now see the reason why they are desperately organising such fund raising events in the name of club bonding.

I am appealing once more to the officials to rise to the ocassion by doing what we have elected to do. Just like the way they were recruited, we would to see them when they exit happy and proud to have played for K’Ogalo. It is only five months remaining to the AGM, however if they fail to do their duty, we have no oher option but to kick them out at the ballot. I promise.
