TV Blackout for Kogalo matches

Supersport, the South Africa TV station that transmits Kenya Premier league matches live has decided not to air Gor Mahia matches. This is according to KPL CEO Jack Oguda. The decision was probably reached due to the fact that three Gor Mahia matches have been abandoned due to crowd trouble over the past 6 months.

According to Oguda , Gor Mahia officials are free to appeal. It is likely however that the ban will last at least until the end of the year. Whether the ban also means Gor Mahia do not get a share of the revenue is unclear.

This is the first of sanctions that Gor Mahia are expected to face following the abandonment of the KPL Top 8 match against Ulinzi.

  • This is stupid decision. I think supersports needs Gor Mahia the same way Gor Mahia needs supersports. Let them go and air empty stadia matches. With proper accountability in the club during our home games, we can raise more monies than that patry figures donated by the so called sponsor supersports.

I will even stop paying subscription of supersports if this is the case. Let Oguda and Supersports note that even in developed countries like UK, the TV works with the established clubs for the presence to be felt. Let them go to hail if this is the decision they have made.

Meanwhile, I will continue to watch all Gor Mahia games and KPL must appoint competent referees but not the cramps referees we have been seeing day in day out. What about games being officiated by incompetent and poor referees? Will Supersports continue to air them or not?

I can read mischieve to deny Gor Mahia victory at the end of KPL. This is the plan being orchestrated by Oguda and KPL because Oguda’s team Mathare is facing relegation. Come out clean Mr. Oguda. You will not stop us from attending all our games whether in Nairobi or outside Nairobi. I promise you that we will always be there in large numbers.

  • Surely Oguda has nothing to do with that decision. As a corporate i’m sure Supersport have their own rules and if they feel they are not being met then they have a reason to act. It’s like forcing Safcom to sponsor us! What we can do is to make sure we maximise our gate collections by all genuine fans paying the gate fee instead of hassling at the gate with a quarter of the fee and gaining entrance of which the club gets nothing while the gateman goes home smiling. To cover that hole left by Supersport we can start by charging 200 (Russia) and 500 (VIP) for the local derby. Stopping your Dstv subscription will not help the club at this point. All we need is to seduce, convince and cojole as many people as possible to come to the stadium during our home matches. As fans we also need to make them comfortable and safe for them to come back again. Chest thumping has never helped anybody or team. Even Man United with it’s 70K stadium capacity still needs a sponsor so we should jealously protect what we have at the moment. On the playing unit, apart from the big man from Congo, Ochomo, Mwachiko who else do we have signed. I read that Jamal wanted to come but like he has gone to Romania, Moses Odhiambo from Tusker is also being targeted, Kevo from Rangers as well not forgetting Selenge. Can someone give us some more sweet/bitter romours on the transfers since the facts are rare from this site.

  • Mwakio ulisomea wapi wewe……. its uncouth to throw stones at the ref in a stadium let the Gor management feel the consequences then they will take the right decisions to avoid the hooligans in the future its better to have an empty stadium rather than have one full of hooligans. ati because of some few fools i cant take my 3 year old boy to the stadium,no way shindwe!and mwakio if you refuse to pay supersport subscription we will i.e. me and fellow peace loving kogalo followers.you see supersport is just trying to tell you that any action you take there are always consequences and for Rachier -your life could be alot easier without the hooligans raise the Russia gate fee to kshs.500 if they dont want to pay wacha wasikize kwa Radio Jambo, Arocho atawatangazia and so that they dont disturb us at the centre stand increse it to kshs.700.00 For sometime they will refuse to come to the stadium, but you will have sieved the bad elements out of the terraces kogalo has got so many fans and when the stone throwing ones pay 500.00 and come in if they will they will behave, hakuna njia ingine.

  • @Paw Akuche na wewe ulisomo wapi? You have not right to query where I went to School my friend. That was my comment and you are free to make yours.

Having been in the business world, take note that business cannot be done with threats of not airing our games. I repeat that Supersports needs GM the same GM needs them.

Meanwhile you can keep your subscription but note that they have lost two customers that have been with them since 2003. I have two premium decorders both in Nairobi home and upcountry house and I’m terminating it with effect from 1 July 2011.

I do not support hooliganism but we have seen worst football troubles in Europe and Latin America in both national and club matches as compared to what happened in Nyayo Stadium but pay TVs have continued to air the matches live. This is business and my friend note that no threats can stop football business from thriving.

I propose that GM officials can engage the services of other TV stations such as KISS, CLASSIC, KBC, SMART TV etc and FM radio stations such as Radio Jambo, Citizen, Simba etc to take this presenting opportunity to air/broadcast all our home games. With digital TV becoming a reality in the near future, all our fans across the globe will be able to watch all our home matches a LIVE. Supersports have been operating like a monopoly that needs to be checked by Pricing and Monopolies Commission.

GM can also stop supersports from bring any TV footage of GM games if this happens.

  • On rumours Kevin Ochieng and Jamal can be a good acquisition as well as Moses Odhiambo for our midfield to dominate teams. I think Ochomo and Selenga too can add the much needed striking power upfront. Since I have been an ardent GM fan, our midfield have been the mainstay of the team and I can see the coach Zico and GM officials are doing something if these rumours are true.

All fans, we do not what the supersports sponsorship entails. How much do we get as a club? Where are the audited accounts? or Is KPL behaving like FIFA? The passing of new constitution requires all institutions with domicile in Kenya to be beyong any reproach.

When will KPL publish their accounts in the media for public scrutiny? Oguda should answer this candid question. If they do so, then KPL clubs will also do the same. This is accountability on how public funds have been utilised unless it is a private company.

If only supersport could answer tghis first, then hand in the punishment later, the better. . . . ..K24 has approached Rachier’s office to air Gor MAHIA MATCHES LIVE,home and away, so I mean, Supersport is not a threat to GM, and it will never, in fact, Gor Mahia categorically is bigger than the so called Multichoice Kenya

  • I wonder why guys keep on saying gate charges need to be hiked. My observation is that for most high-priced matches(including even the one for Sofapaka last weekend)is where fans collude at the gates to deny club the money. You and I might know that not getting an official receipt at the gates will deny your favourite team the revenue but majority of fans just want an access(cheaper)to the stadia regardless of how the payment is done.

So hiking gate charges is just shrinking club’s revenue and has proved to be true for Gor lately. Last leg of last season is when the club was reaping maximum collection but when they decided to hike gate charges, most people are bribing gate keepers into the stadium. I witness it last weekend at Sofapaka’s game and the Tunisian team when the Ticket Masters staff solicit for the bribes themselves. It’s not limited to Gor alone.

The hooligans can go on chest-thumping for all they want but one thing is clear: our young players will lack vital TV exposure. One of the things that motivates our players to perform even better is when they know they are playing to an audience larger than those present in the stadium. Now, do you honestly think they will be happy to miss that opportunity? For what- a few guys who hongana to get in the stadium (the proceeds of which never benefit the players) only to cause chaos at the slightest provocation?

Pls think about the professional future of our players.

Some of those invitations the team gets to go play outside Kenya are most probably because of the TV exposure. Gor has been the most valued club in Kenya because of the positive publicity we are getting in the media and we need this to continue. I hope that our hearts will mellow and we start thinking about the future of the club instead of justifying some actions. Our humbleness will make us attract even more sponsors to assist Tuzo take GM to where we all believe it belongs

If you hate you hate fully not half way because writing stories about Gor will mean that they are following our games. The fee to be raised to ksh 200 and to ksh 500. And funs to start mobilizing friends to all our matches both away and home. Nyayo management board can also burn us from using their facility if they like after all its not our home ground. • SSP is starting a fight they will not win. Not many of us support hooliganism, in fact all of VIP never throws stones. However, we need to tell our brothers at Russia that stones are extremely stonage and do not auger well with modern football management. Jack Oguda and company are the real culprits here and SSP should hold forums for referees where they’ll migrate best practice from the rest of Africa and beyond, to educate our referees on proper officiating. This is what Jack Oguda should be arranging instead of presiding over punishment to be meted out on Gor Mahia. SSP should take a lead role in this rather than blacking out Gor fans who have single handedly brought back life to Kenyan soccer. A one or two-match ban will also slow down down Russia but a total blackout is misconceived and misinformed. Does not address the issue of poor refereeing nor does it deter Russia from further acts of hooliganism.

I’ve always read and seen mischief in zico’s behavior, mark my words ” we’ll never win any trophy with zico as coach” and i’ll remind all of you of this quote. I keep asking why we talk of midfield and strikers when the likes of kip, owiti ,lucky ,kevo are there! Zico’s mission is to build his new team he’s starting it all over again. You saw awilo play on the left the other day where was wekesa n c. Omondi? If you think am wrong where was chemelil when he was there? By then they were the few sponsored clubs in the country! Expect no trophy with zico. Do not be surprised with his signings he’s only sidelining those he found there. You’ll see. Just say anything! Just say am living in the past but we’ll not win a trophy with him as coach. Afraha niko.

honestly zico decisions are always questionable,i think Haji Mwachoki is not the saviour we have been looking for.His playing style is too similar to Odera n Lavatsa, we needed a strong, speedy, and energetic striker because thats` what we are lacking. The chance is now gone because we can`t buy another striker coz they will be too many(lavatsa, moses, owiti, haji, odera, kevo). Please know buy a creative midfielder, who can hold the ball n give killer passes, coz we have none in kogalo. The squad should also be trimmed some players should be loaned, and others sold eg opondo, wise, ochola(retire)etc. For us to beat chemelil dont play tony his last touch is always wanting n we will win, i promise you .Nakuru tunakujaa!

  • For a strong energetic striker rumours are that we got Ochomo from Congo Boys. He is as BIG as Dawo was. If it’s true then he can shield Odera, Lavatsa and Kevo from the brutal defenders so that they can use their talents. On Zico I think at times we go overboard. I doubt whether he has the final say on who is brought to the club. Unless we are saying that GM is a one-man show. Let’s remember that last year KCB and Rangers were almost being relegated but look at what the confidence in their players and coach has done. Most of those who have issues with Zico have been unable to give us a list of the coaches they have in mind. Let’s build the team instead of looking for excuses/reasons to start all over. If we have any issues I believe we can channel them through the branches and if this is not possible then we have an even bigger problem. Most teams are rebuilding while some of us are still on destructive modes. At times you get what you wish for.

Thank you Jon for saying what you’ve said.. I only request you to know that many people contributing here have no personal issues with anyone, i ask you to understand that we only meet when our eyes watch the players simultaneously.. please do not refer to me as a destroyer coz am not..as a member and spectator like me we know mwachofi plays on the wings where we already have mwalimu and opondo(signed by zico himself) and on the right owiti and kiplangat what can you read on all this?

To me its a replacement and not beefing up..alot of people have talked about Mugalia and need for another striker, is it not visible? and is that destruction?

We all want the trophy..its the duty of the coach to suggest the players coming in and out..we should as members be able to see how viable our ambition to lift the trophy is by watching the steps taken towards achieving it.

Also note that i’ve not said zico to go..but am telling you and other optimists to enjoy Kogalo play but not expect any trophy with this guy..i dont but i’m s\till heading every where with kogalo.

Surely if you were to rate the performance of the match officials it does not need an expert to tell us why we don’t have our own referees officiating international matches it was awful, shameful, and does not warrant sympathy i totally agree with those calling for boycott to supersport after all we did away with kaburus long time ago. Selenge, Mwachoffi, Ochomo, Ochieng all set to join the green shirts
Gor Mahia are closing in on the signing of released AFC Leopards striker Demonde Selenga, Harambee Stars forward Kevin Ochieng and two others. In the next 24 hours, the club expects to know whether the two, alongside Hajji Mwachofi and Wycliffe Ochomo will become Zedekiah “Zico” Otieno’s mid season Kenya Premier League signings.
Club secretary Ronald Ngala said the club is confident one or two remaining loose ends will be tied up to ensure the four finally make the move to K’Ogallo. “We are almost there. We will come up with the big news by tomorrow (Friday). The players are all ready to play for Gor and we are doing whatever we can to have them. We will be meeting again with the players to fine tune the transfers. Then we will break the news,” Ngala said.
Ochieng is now with league leaders Rangers FC while Ochomo is at Congo United. Mwachofi has been unattached since concluding his contract at Thika United.
For a long time Selenga, released by Leopards after allegations that some players were sabotaging the club, has harboured an interest in Gor and now he can hardly contain his joy with the new development. “Gor like AFC are a big club with big history. I will be happy to play with them. I hope all will go well in the next few days so that I can be able to play for a club that I have been dreaming of playing for,” Selenga said.
Ochieng revealed he has met Rangers club officials and they have a lot of interest in him. He said the talks were going on well.“ It is just a matter of negotiations before they can come to an agreement. “Gor seems to be looking at a player who can make them achieve their goals and if we can add to the quality they already have, then they will be fine. “But it is price-sensitive. Sometimes you can want to bring a good player in but financially you haven’t got the means to do that. I think the club is just making sure they are parting with what they have. So I am waiting,” he said.
Ochieng’s former club Sofapaka have also shown interest in him.“We got to bring other players in and we will try and maintain the quality that we have seen since the start of the season.“I don’t think there’s any point in bringing players who are not as good as what we have, or who are not potentially as good as what we have. You don’t progress doing that. That is why we are going for these kind of players,” Ngala said.
Mwachofi who also trained with the other three yesterday said he was ready to get back to top flight football after Thika failed to renew his contract.

Some willing sponsor please print for us large posters proclaiming change for peace. These should be carried aloft in a march from Nakuru town to Stadium during the Chemelil game in Nakuru, preferably by Kogirlo Divas and “Mamas for Gor Mahia” if they are there. We need to show everyone and all that we have learned our lesson and we are changing and are ready to embrace civilised behaviour.

    Reply
  • @Ja Thur gi ji you can’t be more right. We need to change and do it genuinely. If we don’t change even our Divas and children will find it hard to attend any GM matches if their safety is not guaranteed. Just watched last night’s AFC match where they lost to Mathare but they all trooped out of the stadium lamenting the lose but no single insecurity incidence. Let’s also respect other clubs and use civil language on them. Calling other clubs junk is taking our crticism too far. The other truth is that without a sponsor any team can really struggle in the KPL league now. Look at Rangers and City stars. The league of these days is different from those days when the Chairmen used to bankroll the team. What with the current finacial challenges facing even established companies. Though we lose some marketing and finacial boost without SSport the consoling thing is that GM fans don’t watch the matches on SSport but go to the stadium. Now they will even go in droves so long as the few of us who resort to uncivil behaviours stop it. Can’t wait to see the full list of the new players and hopefully the three points on Sunday

K’ogallo is one club in the country with well established branches all over. If Supersport wanted to televise well attended matches in kenya, they should liase with the branches that are about 70 by now. With this, the issue of football madness will be contained. Also remember Serikal’s Fans are not wild. They are only trying to control abused situations in the field. It is a known fact in the football arena or any other quoted Game,a referee’s whistle is final but when a Linesman substitute’s this for his personal gain, this has to draw an intensive wrath of a real fan.

K’OGALLO’S FAN BASE HAS A FOCUS TO BE THE BEST IN THIS COUNTRY AND SURELY NONE WILL BEAT US IN THIS.

Therfore,my request to all branch chairmen and leadership: Please, we should talk to & control our members even though we may not achieve a 100% result as at now but we may achieve something.

It is also advisable that during a match in progress, both the referees and Linesmen don’t provoke K’Ogallo’s 12th Player as they will not always expect to be treated with a child’s glove.

    NOTE:
“WE HAVE MOUTHS SO! WILL TALK.
“WITH GOOD EARS! WE WILL BE READY TO LISTEN BUT
“WE WILL ALWAYS QUESTION A WRONG DEED WHILE IN THE PITCH HENCE FORCED TO MAKE A PROPER JUDGEMENT AT THAT TIME.

Otherwise MA Fans, let’s look forward to being the best 12th Player a Kenyan Club has always had and that is K’OGALLO F.C.

It is shocking to learn that Super Sport will not televise Gor matches. As a matter of fact Gor and Sofapaka are the only teams in the KPL that play the kind of football worth watching, indeed w/o Gor I will watch no local football and simply wait for the EPL. Much as Gor fans are being blamed for causing abandonment of the match against Ulinzi, the referee in my view takes the greatest share for his ameterish handling of such a high profile match. Like how could he say that Gor had earned a corner but fail to see that what caused the “corner”was indeed a handball by the Ulinzi player? How ridiculous!

Super sport, you better rethink your decision.
