Speed merchant Edwin Lavatsa has been a tremendous asset for Gor Mahia ever since he joined Gor Mahia in 2011 while still a student at Upper Hill Secondary school in 2011. He was signed as a potential replacement to favourite George Odhiambo “Blackberry” who had just left the club for Denmark.

Lavatsa spent his formative years in Kibera and once played for Olympic Talents in Kibera before he rose into the limelight. Also at Olympic Talents was national team defender David “Cheche” Ochieng.

He has scored and set up several crucial goals for Gor Mahia since he joined. Most notable was the goal he scored in the 2011 FKF cup final that enabled Gor Mahia to beat Sofapaka 1-0 and lift the trophy. A long term injury in 2012 saw him miss almost half the season. But when he returned he promptly regained his form.

Lavatsa’s superlative performances for club have seen him get call ups to the national team where he has acquited himself really well. His speed on the right flank has been the bane of many defenders. Lavatsa’s stellar performances for club has seen him invited to the national team where he has acquited himself well.
