Gor Mahia in Rama Salim talks

courtesy of the Nation

Gor Mahia has set a price of Sh5 million before releasing striker Rama Salim (right) to join Qatari second division side, Al-Marhiya.

Officials of the two clubs met on Wednesday in Nairobi where Gor Mahia tabled their price. The Qataris had initially offered Sh1 million for the player.

They are, however, uncomfortable with the figure and have decided to consult further before Friday’s final meeting that will determine whether or not Salim will see honour the remainder of his contract with Gor which lasts till December.

Gor secretary-general, George Bwana, and his assistant Ronald Ngala lamented that Al-Marhiya’s offer of Sh1 million was too little yet the Qataris were not willing to play ball.

“Rama (right) is a big player and we’ll not let him go for cheap. He’s not a loaf of bread,” Bwana told the Daily Nation. Bwana said the club did not wish to stand in the way of the player who has passed trials.

Salim returned to Gor’s camp on Wednesday but did not train with the rest of the players.

And Gor Mahia have suspended their goalkeeping trainer, Iddi Salim, allegedly for secretly negotiating the player’s  transfer. Al-Marhiya addressed their transfer request letter for Rama Salim through Iddi.

I fully support the 5M fee. The Arabs should take it leave. In fact the best fee would have been 7.2M so that 2.2M goes to offset the Kasarani fine.

With this devolved government who will take Rama’s place in Sirkal to represent Mombasa county? Will it be Shaban Kenga or Mohammed Mwachiponi or both? I’d rather we settle for both since Rama’s boots are too big for only one of them. I hope the TB have taken note of these upcoming stars.

  • Under normal circumstances, 5 M sounds about right. However, given what has transpired of late, Gor should take the 1 M and split ways with this boy; this is why i say this 1) If Ramas heart is to join this middle east club and the club holds onto him against his wish, who is to say he will be productive for Gor? He might decide to just kick around the ball if field whille drawing a check from Gor. 2) The boys contract expires at the end of the year. He might walk after giving a shody effort in the remaining games and at that point Gor will get nothing back! . No one million no trophy 3)From what has been said in the media about Rama sneaking out, goal keeper coach being fired etc…..the work atmosphere is bound to be extremely poisonus and not conducive to productivity by the player. Rama is not a machine. You can not turn him off and then on and hope everything will continue running smoorh

Ec should just let Rama go for 2m..his heart is not at gor as we speak ane he only has 4months of his contract reamaing. So it’s either we get something or loose evrything when he leaves at the end of the season.

Omwami Ingo I know you are hoping very hard that your sentiments could be true since Efusi would benefit hugely from such a scenario. Unfortunately that is not the case since Rama is very professional. Remember he only went for trials and knew very well that he had to come back for unfinished business at Gor Mahia till the end of the season. If Rama was to walk out on K’Ogalo because “his heart is not with the team” then he would have done so a long time. This is not the first such offer he is getting. As far as I know, he has received even better deals but he turned them down because of his love for Mahia.

I only hope that whoever is negotiating this deal does not not carry the emetional baggage with him/her. As it is non of the Gor EC has a level mind to do this. After all they are the ones who suspended Rama’s buddy (the keepr’s coach). As much as I don’t always agree with @Ingo this time he might be having a point. The atmosphere might have been ‘poisoned’ though I still beieve @Ingo’s team would prefer the status quo for phsychological reasons.

  • Barefoot my brother from Alego, That is far from the truth. Rama is a business man first and that is the reason why he is at Gor in the first place and NOT because he loves Gor. If it is about loving a team, then I can assure you he would be with Congo United or Bandari. Huyu ni mtu wa pwani siyo mtu wa bara. Wanielewa? ” Secondly, He might have turned down other offers BUT he has accepted this one. So to me, thats where his heart and mind is at the moment. Finally, AFC Leopards are not afraid of Gor with or without Rama. We have a well oiled machine that is running on all cylinders

@Ingo, your oiled machines will rust on 25th of August and those cylinders will burst. You should know that Rama is a professional player and not prone to such things not like Ingwe players. How many players has your team/Ingwe produced even for trials abroad?

  • @ George my friend from Siaya, which was the last KPL team that Victor Wanyama the first Kenyan Player to ever play in the European Premier League play for?….I rest my case

I believe the two players know what’s good for them. As fans we only see trophies and points. For them it’s a livelihood. So i believe they will be able to make that choice though what’s happening here is not unique. The Rooney/Bale saga comes into mind. It’s a combination of what he player’s heart desires (Rooney’s case) and an increase in earning (Bale’s case). The general agreement is that Rama and Danny gives us their services till end of Novemember and thereafter we give them all our blessings to follow thier hearts’ desires. Between Gor and Ingwe it should neveer be a compe on who has produced more pros going abroad. It never helps their case. Sofa has been in the business of selling players but has that helped them?

Wanyama last played for City stars. By the way can’t remember when he played for Ingwe ’cause either Ingwe was in the provincial league or it was those days they were always surviving relegation

@Ingo even only one cylinder can be described as all cylinders! I can bet my only coin that that biography on Victor Wanyama has been authored by Benson Disi and that’s why Victor is falsely linked with Ingwe. Trust me Omwami, had Victor played for Efusi he would not have made it past East Africa. Other bright sons of Mulembe such as Mike Baraza, Charles Okwemba my star and even the great Wilberforce “Maradona” Mulamba (who was 10 times better than Victor) were not lucky as to avoid any dealings with Ingwe.

@ingo, Google is not a bible and even the devil can post articles that are fully laced with untruths in it. Trust me that what you are relying on is our resident madman’s work.

  • Let players & officials CLEARLY KNOW that GM is not a soccer academy but a former continental champion that wants to reclaim its glory. We need structures that ensures that we don’t lose players mid-season but structures that enables GM retain a stable team
