Jerim, Calabar and Flava nominated for FOYA awards

The Kenya premier league has picked its nominees for the footballer of the year awards. Dan Sserunkuma, David Owino “Jashirati” and Jerim “Jagoal” have been nominated in their respective categories.

Interestingly Bobby Williamson has not been nominated for coach of the year. Instead the coach of the year will be a battle between Sofapaka’s David Ouma, John Kamau (Thika Utd), Muhhidin (Bandari), Juma (KCB) and Matano (Tusker). How its it possible that Matano could be nominated yet he is on the verge of being replaced and David Ouma was dismissed from his job at Sofapaka ?

The list of nominees is as follows:

Those shortlisted include; Goalkeeper of the year: Wycliffe Kasaya (Sony Sugar), Sammy Okinda (KCB), Jerim Onyango (Gor Mahia), Wilson Obungu (Bandari), Duncan Ochieng’ (Sofapaka).

Defender of the year: Felly Mulumba (Sofapaka), Mohammed Sherrif (Bandari), John Odhiambo (KCB), David Mwangi (Mathare United) and David Owino (Gor Mahia).

Fair Play player of the year: Dennis Onkangi (Western Stima), James Situma (Sofapaka), Oliver Ruto (Mathare), Shaban Kenga (Bandari), Sammy Okinda (KCB).

Coach of the year: David Ouma (Sofapaka), John Kamau (Thika United), Twahhir Muhhidin (Bandari FC), Abdallah Juma (KCB), Robert Matano (Tusker).

Midfielder of the year: Brian Osumba (KCB), Shaban Kenga (Bandari), Paul Were (AFC Leopards), Francis Kahata, (Thika United), Peter Opiyo (AFC Leopards).

New young player of the year: Patillah Omotto (AFC Leopards), Moses Mudavadi (Homeboyz), Stephen Wakhanya (Chemelil Sugar), Sammy Meja (Thika United), Michael Olunga (Tusker FC).

Best player of the year: Allan Wanga (AFC Leopards), Dan Sserunkuma (Gor Mahia), Jacob Keli (KCB), Shaban Kenga (Bandari), David Owino (Gor Mahia).

Team manager of the year: Dan Omondi (Karuturi Sports), Josphat Okal (KCB), Alfred Achayo (Bandari), Tom Ochong (Chemelil Sugar) and Moses Nyalik (Western Stima).

Should Sserunkuma win, it will be his second succesive FOYA award having won in 2012. George Odhiambo “Blackberry” is the other Kogalo player to have won this award.

I wish our boys good luck. We might have won the trophy but looking at the nominations you get a different picture. That non of our midfielders made it to that category talks volumes about that department. I dare say that this was our weakest link.
If you look at KCB you find that it features prominently in the available categories. This shows that it was a very compact team this year.

We live in very interesting times indeed! How comes Jerry was not nominated for player of the year? Jerry has been consistent throughout the season. and he even won five man of the match awards. Him together with the defence is part of the reason we were hard to beat.we are really behind on some issues and really we should borrow leaf from other nations on how things are done.Give. Frasier what belongs to ceasor and God what belongs to God.Amen.

I still cannot believe why Eric Ochieng didn’t get any mention on the midfielder of the year. I know we were not very good in the middle but Erico held forte very ably. Anyway, let’s hope that the players will use tomorrow’s occassion to show the selectors that they have what it needs to be nominated the best player in whichever category they will be played in

Everything else kept aside, what Kasaya did against his team mates and coach (Sammy Omolo) at Mbaraki is enough to disqualify him from any nominations. Perhaps he deserves an award for the most childish player of the season.
