Derby to end season

The 2013 season is set for an exciting conclusion on Sunday when AFC Leopards take on arch-rivals Gor Mahia in the GOtv Shield final at Nyayo Stadium.

At stake is the GOtv Shield and Sh2m prize money. AFC Leopards coach, James Nandwa, has said his side is not under any pressure since it is already assured of a continental appearance.

“I am happy that we have already achieved our aim of playing at the continental stage next season by virtue of having made it to the final of the GOtv Shield.

“This, therefore, takes the pressure from us as we go into this match. The only thing at stake is a trophy and Sh2m prize money,” said Nandwa.

Sunday’s match will also be the last for Nandwa whose short-term. The 2013 season is set for an exciting conclusion on Sunday when AFC Leopards take on arch-rivals Gor Mahia in the GOtv Shield final at Nyayo Stadium.

Sunday’s match will also be the last for Nandwa whose short-term contract ends in December and the coach has not talked about his future.

“I have done what needed to be done. We have achieved a lot by finishing runners-up in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL).  This is my last match after which we’ll see what happens,” he said.

pressure to win

Gor Mahia coach, Bobby Williamson, admitted that the team will be under pressure to win the trophy and maintain a good record against their arch-rivals.

“At Gor Mahia, there is always pressure to win trophies and this is no different. Added to the fact that this is a derby, we expect that it will not be easy but we are determined to enjoy ourselves and end the season on a high,” said Williamson, who led Gor to their first KPL trophy in 18 years.

Kogalo fans will be hoping that Dan Sserunkuma can continue his devastating form. The lethal Ugandan striker says the team is fully focused. “Right now, what is important is the match (finals), we are focused and we are aiming for a win. “Everybody knows the importance of the match and we want to win the title”, Sserunkuma told michezoafrika.

Legends Game

Before the derby, Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards legends play each other in a match sure to bring back memories. The match will kick off at 1:00pm and is expected to bring together top players of yester years as they rekindle memories of their previous experiences.

Charges

FKF has announced that entry fee for the match will be 500 shillings for terraces and 1000 shillings VIP.

  • Excellent ! the match must be expensive and the police with dogs and on horseback must be ruthless to keep hooligans at bay.
Those who cant accept results should stay at home coz this is live on both supersport and GOTV so options are there so they will still watch the match any way.

Almighty God of the heavens and the earth, this is great moment for your power and might to prevail over the evil powers of witchcraft in soccer…and heavenly father I strongly believe you will deliver Gor Mahia just like you did in the days of Elijah. Father God I pray that with the soon-to-come doping tests in KPL, traces of witchcraft will be found in blood and urine samples of players from teams who practice this evil. Amen.

Great season finale…peanuts for cash money prize though. Expect poor organization from FKF akin to the one we saw during GOR – SoNy match. Football is growing faster than football administrators in kenya can cope with. K’Ogalo and Ingwe must start organizing tourneys similar to the Emirates Cup every season. Through this they would potentially raise 3M and a shame FKF with their lose change cash prize!

Trying to keep hooligans out by raising ticlet prices also keeps out peace loving fans who happen to be broke or jobless , especially recent school leavers.

And the hooligans will still find their way into the stadium by scaling the fence.

Thank you lord for giving us the long awaited KPL trophy after a long ( 18 years ) drought season . I give glory and honor , all belong to you . Any bonus trophies, we still continue to say thank you . I decree the sunday match a win for Gor Mahia FC . AMEN.

I dont think kenyan soccer of today has quality commensurate with these charges. Especially for those coming along with friends its somehow prohibitive. The disguise of keeping hooligans away by hiking entry fees is quite a ridicule as the same ticket will pass thousands to maintain the ‘security men’.

Ero kamano Nyasaye for having ushered us with blessings as we strolled towards the much covered Tpl trophy. Now all focus turns to Gor(TV) but my worry is whether our players are focused enough and ready to rubble! Beating shemeji means a lot to me and my family u know. Personally I would have gone for ja towel to start. in goal..he has been monster wherever called upon.raising gate charges is never the remedy for cubbing holliganism but channel for corruption. Land other vices to thrive.will explain later coz AWOL.gudluck mayienga.

May the best team win though hiking of entry fees is quiet defeatist of the organozers ability to fight hooliganism. Many young jobless fans who would have liked to attend the match shall feel disenfranchised. There are better ways of fighting hooliganism in football pitches than raising entry charges unless some people are out to cash in on the event.

Ooh Laa la..”My dream squad for the GoTv derby finale”.

Am neither a “Waingajo” nor am I part and parcel of GM technical bench but let nobody question as to why or where I got the audacity to impersonate the two Bobby’s and come with most predictable line up for the sunday clash. TRhis just my wish list….PERIOD..!!!!!

    NB:
AM APPEALING TO BOBBY WILLIAMSON TO PLEASE THINK TWICE ABOUT FIELDING JERRY & MOSOTI. NO ILL FEELING ABOUT THEM BUT THEIR STYLE OF PLAY AND PANICKING-MOOD ON BIG STAGE WILL BE COSTLY. SO MOSTI AND JERRY MUST BE BENCHED ON SUNDAY AND ALLOW US TO HAVE EASY TIME WITH AFC “NIGHT-RUNNERS” ON THE FLANKS.

    1. IVO MAPUNDA…..Always standout on GoTv more so AFC.
    2. MUSA MOHAMED….Capable of handling “Night-runners”
    3. DAVID OWINO…..Will dilute the “Night-runners”…
    4. ISRAEL EMUGE….Has the body, energy and ability too.
    5. ANTHONY AKUMU…Be re-organized on a defensive role.
    6. JOSEPH NJUGUNA…Push comes 2 shove then it is him.
    7. EDWIN LAVATSA…Good on helping defense off the ball
    8. ERIC OCHIENG… Will marshal attacking midfield
    9. DANNY SSEREKUMA..AFC is his “DOG-MEAT”/Just KILL IT.
10.PAUL KIONGERA…He will prove his critics wrong.
    11. PATRICK OBOYA.. Redemption time, just do it ur way.

    SUBSTITUTES
    1. JERRIM ONYANGO… Its GoTv & Should be on the bench
    2. DANIEL MOSOTI…. Will be victimized on fouls
    3. KEVIN OMONDI….. Come in the second half 4 Kiongera
    4. INNOCENT MUTISO…Come in the second half 4 Oboya
    5. TIMOTHY WANYONYI.. Come in the second half 4 Erico
    6. ANTHONY GATHU.. Option for Pablo or Vierra
    7. SOLOMON NASIO.. Option for Defenders

Some posters comment like they don’t live in this country. 500 bob means a lot to most of us. Are you aware of the unemployment situation in this country. How does one come to the conclusion that football hooliganism derives from being short of cash? Everybody and his dog understands that hooliganism can be dealt with by the concerned authorities. All it takes is their willingness to do so. Where’s the logic in holding the match in a 60,000 seater capacity stadium if the objective is to lock out the less financially comfortable club supporters with such a myopic intent i.e deterring hooliganism. I wonder if the players too would prefer to play before a handful well-heeled so-called proper fans rather than a packed stadium with passionate supporters. Are the security agents going to be deterred from their waywardness too?

Who can dare question The Trailer?

    Sisi kama Gor Mahia
Hatuna mwingine wa kuabudu ila ni wewe ni wewe Jehovah.
    Tumwabudu nani?…Jehovah. Tumwabudu nani?….Jehovah,
    Mungu aishiye.

The prophet Elijah trusted in you God our father (I Kings 18: 30-38) and you never disappointed him. As David says in I Samuel 17: 45, we face the Sunday derby in your name oh everlasting God of the ages. Your servant David trusted in you then so does your son King David ‘Calabar’ in this Sunday’s duel. Glorify yourself oh God and confirm to those who put their trust elsewhere that we don’t worship you in vain.

When a frail old man and his four sons chased and chased and chased a similar cat until the cat got tired and was arrested in Wajir the other day we knew it took your hand oh God. This time round the chase will be at Nyayo. We pray for a convincing victory for Gor Mahia even as we rebuke and bind the spirits of hooliganism, chaos and savagery in the name of Jesus Christ. In the name of Jesus Christ. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

I don’t buy this argument.FKF should try another one.A final between Ingwe and Kogalo is a dream final.A piece of action which no self respecting fan would want to miss before the migration to the EPL.You don’t have to higher a swami to look into this clear crystal ball. They want to recover the money spent in staging this tournament.I hope you also know that CECAFA is around the corner and the Jubilee government has reneged on its earlier promise.Simply put FKF is broke hence the reason for the increase in gate charges.Hooliganism is not a preserve of the an employed or those in the lower cadres of the society.I have seen fans who drive sleek cars but their behavior during and after matches borders on insanity.Gava has the resources to deal with hooligans. These are her people who taxes to her.The government apprehends and jails when they commit felony out there. Why?Because they are a nuisance to the society. The government should not delegate this task to the clubs.Anyone who engages in acts which may be,legally, proved to hooliganism belongs to jail.No need of hiking gate fees to astronomical heights to a fan whose only crime is the love he has for his team.

Ongeeee Ogango Trailer am questioning you. Am also not the coach but instead of Jerry on the bench why not Bataro since that has been the order in the GoTv cup throughout? And for your information there is nobody in Gor called Timothy Wanyonyi, we have Joseph Wanyonyi(wa Timona). And why would you want to break up that cohesive defence , unless you want to allow the so called night runners to really make their runs around Kogalo? In the last about 10 games they were solid like that: Musa,Mosoti, Emuge and Owino.

Efusi has only three players we need to worry about and those are Noah Wafula, Were and Opiyo, if these are marked out its game shot.

@ Jathur gi ji point of correction accepted. It is Timona Wanyonyi. But for Jerry I still think he should be on the bench instead of Bataro.

We need JA-GOAL to lift the trophy while cladding the official K’Ogalo playing unit regalia and not his home attire.

Am 100% sure with that line up and may be BW might tweak one or two positions but that is the team that can dominate and beat EFUSI with very little struggle within the first 15 minute and then dominate the field for the rest of playing time for any kind of score-line.

Our defense partnership of Mosoti and Emuge is very much predictable to an astute coach like Nandwa and he knows very well that any mix up of positioning between them especially when pulling off for an OFFSIDE TRAP is an avenue, in fact an HIGHWAY for “night-runners”.

Look at how the likes of OUMA and WENDO of mathare or KELLY of KCB or rather WAFULA and WANGA left them stranded as JERRY positioning in the goal exposed the leakage that am worried about.

Akumu is an intelligent defensive midfielder who can easily deal with such kind of situation and deserves the CAPTAINCY on the material day. I rest my case.

@ The Trailer , You seem to be aware of the kind of drills AFC have been practising to perfect while camping at Mumias. They have been training on speed and accuracy of the gifted flank players, while their predators have been practicing on how to position themselves in the box. Any silly mistake by our defenders will be punished immediately.

Players to watch are WERE, WAFULA, WANGA and BARAZA. For me OPIYO will be neutralized by ERIC and PABLO.

@Barefoot Bandit please double your efforts in your daily prayers since the EFUSI camp has taken their witchcraft a notch higher by inviting their “JUJU” man who blinds the opponents players during match. His name doing rounds in the social media is “PAPA WALUBENGO” from bujua’nga area next to Sigalame. If you can recall ALADWA said they will use whatever means applicable, inclusive of “UGANGA” to clinch the trophy.

K’Ogalo let us worry not. They will come in the name of Papa Walubengo but we shall prevail because our God almighty and is victorious even over forces of witchcraft. This is what I Samuel 17: 45-47 says and I don’t have a reason to doubt the might of our God: ’45 David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. 47 All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”

Our God will not abandon us when we have King David, Musa, Israel, Dan(iel), Philip (Ja-towel) and the two Josephs in our squad. Remember Sir Bobby rateng wuod Ogolla is John and there is a Paul and Moses (Dube) in the bench. If you dig deep don’t be surprised to find that Bob Williamson’s dear mother is Mary Elizabeth.

Yes, let them come in the name of Papa Walubengo or whatever, but on Sunday the whole world will know it is not by night running or witchcraft that soccer is played because Sunday’s match is the Lord’s.

A word of wisdom tells me right now that Papa Walubengo will attempt to come and treat the dressing room and the Nyayo stadium pitch, but to the glory of God, he will lose all his paraphernalia to pick pockets as he boards the Nairobi-bound bus.

To all bloggers and the entire Gor Mahia family, let us continue praying without ceasing until God delivers the cat in our hands just the way he delivered that male cat in Wajir the other day to that frail old man.

Personally I think though KCB exposed our defence that is the best we have currently, Owino, Emugu, Musa and Mosoti. They just need to believe in themselves. With Ingwe if Owino and Musa ensure that there is no wing play for Ingwe then there will be no Ingwe in that game. That would mean that Calabar and Musa minimize their fotays upwards. Remember how Were scored us last time. We went ‘fishing’ upstream and forgot to guard the rear. To me Wanyonyi is a good gamble to start, he will either be our trump card or he gets subbed for Kiongera or Dube who are big match players. On paper AFc are favourites and that’s when BW will pull the rabbit out of the magic box

I see a situation where Owino calabar will get his equal in Were while Musa too will have to deal with Noah Wafula, Wanga n Baraza will have it easy against Emuge n Mosoti provided they get adequate supply of balls, captain fantastic Imbalambala n pinchez will have to be at their best to topple pablo/Akumu n Erick Ochieng in the midfield battle, my worry is our defence which has not been oustanding Modoh n Saleh will need inspiration to stop Mungai son of Kiongera n Ssebo, striker turned defender Etemesi n dead ball specialist Juma against Oboya n Lavatsa is reasuring though, being a derby i dont think theres any favorite n i cant rule out penalties where Mapunda or MaDVD will be the hero of the day, that said i want to clarify that Ingwe neva use black magic but if it is juju that that will help us win the cup so be it….
