Kevin Omondi back from South Africa

Former Gor Mahia lively midfielder Kevin Omondi has parted ways with Moroka Swallows of South Africa without ever having played for the team.

Omondi, popularly known as “Ade” was signed during the off-season, but his progress was delayed by work permit issues which dogged many new signings in the Premier Soccer League this season.

After signing Omondi, the club’s then coach Zeca Marques changed his mind and the player was sent on loan to NFD side FC Cape Town.

The decision to go to a second tier side frustrated the former Gor Mahia forward, and he decided to end his relationship with Swallows, without making an official appearance.

“The move had a lot of complications and I chose to terminate the contract,” Omondi told SuperSport. “We reached an agreement and I’m happy with it.”

“I’m back home relaxing as I prepare for the next season, I’m ready to listen to offers from within (Kenya) and outside the country,” he said to sport24.co.za

FISA academy director Maurice Owuor indicated that Omondi’s problems with the coach escalated to the point where he had no choice but to part ways.

“The initial problems between Omondi and the coach got to a point where the two had to part ways and I can confirm that he is back home,” he told Goal.

A Lively Midfielder

Omondi when in form is a handful for any defence to contend with.  He has good pace and dexterity on the ball at pace. He showed this against Esperance at Nyayo stadium, when he made a diagonal run and was felled by an Esperance defender resulting in a penalty which Sserunkuma converted.

He joined Gor Mahia in 2010 as a green 19 year old straight out of secondary school. So promising was his career that he was called up to the national team while still in his teens.

Bring Omondi back

Omondi has potential to go places and the new Gor Mahia coach Frank Nuttall could be the man to revive his career. It goes without saying that Gor Mahia should strongly consider bringing Ade back into the fold. He will bring much needed creativity which at times has been lacking in midfield, forcing Nuttall to push Walusimbi into midfield.

Secretary General Chris Omondi has not ruled out bringing Ade back. “Whether we resign him or not will depend on what the coach says. He has to fight for a place in the team just like any other player.” said Omondi to goal.com

  • IN HONOUR OF COACH SIANGA.

LEST WE FORGET……… We are on the right track on the field but the happenings off it are derailing this forward movement. Safari ya kesho, hupangwa Leo.

    JAMES SIANGA.
To the uninitiated, James “Abawa” Sianga is a decorated former player/goalkeeper of Gor Mahia in the early 60s & 70s. Its this man who takes a huge chunk of the credit for the current successes of Gor Mahia. It all began in 2008 when Sianga was hired to coach Gor Mahia, one more time. He dared to dream again of a great Gor Mahia team. To challenge for the National Championship once again, he realized tht he needed to build a team and not individual players. From concept to reality, the man set out to implement his dream the best way only he knew how. He decided against signing older and big name players. Instead he went for young, inexperienced but very disciplined, talented and promising Boys with lots of potential. Thank you Jakom Ambrose Rachier for believing in this project. Because of Sianga’s foresight, the club has been on a steady climb since 2008 save for a few upsets in the year 2011. The team which is at the threshold of retaining the TPL title draws a lot from the initial Sianga team. Blackberry, Jerry, Musa Mohammed were in the original sianga team. The life and footballing lessons the boys learnt at the expansive fields of Eastleigh and Moi Forces Academy High Schools really aided their growth. The experience passed over to them by Abawa stands them head and shoulder above their peers to date. Arise Wycliffe Opondo (Thika Utd) Nasio (unattached) Pinchez (Norway) Masika (Efusi) had he remained in Gor Mahia he would be a National team regular today. Teddy (Sudan) Makori, Akango, Ochola & Kiplagat Francis Ochola (Western Stima) Kitawi(Bandari ) Tonny Onyango, Chris Wekesa Ongwae, Ronny Kagunzi & Macheda(City Stars) Abdul Malik (Italy) Kevin Omondi(SA) not to mention Lavatsa. The old guards like Awilo and Francis Oduor, yes you heard me right, the famous Efusi and Kenya left back. He played for Gor Mahia toward the twilight of his career. They all deserve a mention alongside the contingent still at Kogalo like BB, Jerry, Gattuso & Musa. They all played the initial and most important part of moving Gor Mahia in the right direction. Almost every body had written Kogalo off as a footballing powerhouse. Joining Efusi in the football doldrums looked a real and definite possibility. We must therefore in one accord, thank Mzee Sianga for his valiant effort and great vision in starting the project that has pointed Gor Mahia to its rightful place in Kenyan football. The gauntlet has been thrown and we wait for the Coach who is going to pick up the challenge of returning Gor Mahia to the pinnacle of African football. Its your chance to shine coach Frank Nutall, seize the opportunity and chart your own path. Good luck as you prepare your team for the last match of 2014 season against Ushuru FC. Finally, to “Abawa and the many coaches, past and present, whose stellar achievements lives in our hear:- your every memory is written with golden letters in our hearts!!! We will never forget.
