Raila, Uhuru, Ruto, Sonko to attend fundraiser

On Thursday, CORD leader Raila Odinga will put aside any political differences he has with the President, DP and Senator Mbuvi Sonko to attend the fund raiser for Gor Mahia football club. This according to a report in the East African Standard.
“Raila is the club’s patron, the president and his deputy have also pledged their assistance to Gor Mahia in tomorrow’s fundraiser which targets to raise Sh20 million,” Gor Mahia Deputy Secretary Anima Ferrari Oketch told FeverPitch yesterday.
The fundraiser will be presided over by Governor Evans Kidero who urged the club’s well wishers to join him in boossting the club’s fortunes.
“Gor Mahia has weathered the storm this season. The fundraiser is to give the team stability ahead of the 2015 season.” “Supporters who are not able to make it to the fundraiser can channel their funds to Gor Mahia paybill number 350100. Please join us as we show passion for one of Africa’s iconic football teams,” Kidero added.

Urging Fans to behave themselves

If politicians can put aside their political differences for the sake of raising funds for the club then there is no reason the fans cannot. Any uncalled for heckling by even one fan will only serve to spoil the club’s image further.

Why not reach out to organizations and businesses

Gor Mahia may not be able to garner sponsorship at the moment but there is no reason the club cannot reach out to individual Business and companies especially those that are frequented by Gor Mahia fans or companies whose products are often used by Footbal fans.

Great with the BIG FIVE the fundraiser may realize something substantial.
    At least Uhuru-3M, Ruto-3M, Sonko-3M, Raila-3m, Kidero -3M
    The rest 5M.
But then 20M is only GM’s budget for about 6months, then what next.
These harambees ain’t sustainable and subject to donors fatigue so I once again advocate for a cooperative/sacco.
    10,000 members @ even 250 per month =2,5M/month or kshs30M/year.
Contribution of kshs.400/month will raise kshs.48M per year while kshs.500/month will raise kshs.60M.
Very good opportunity to resolve the GM land issue. Please EC get concrete commitment/progress on this.
That could be your greatest achievement yet don’t let the opportunity pass.
Those on our land can be reallocated elsewhere!

Yes looks like a political rally, let it be but let the money come. Yes talk about Tuzo but lets also be well behaved.Which brand would like to associate with thuggish behavior? People are in business to make money and they cannot give you their hard earned money only for you to tarnish their brand.Come one ,come all.

As for Kisumu for last match, I beg to support fully.

Sounds noble… my only worry is if politics is in the mix:

    1. Some fans may heckle the jubilee leaders tarnishing further the Gor Mahia brand

    2. some jubilee leaders may pay people to come and heckle the president, his deputy and Sonko in order to tarnish Gor, RAO and the Luo community

Both scenarios will add to the bad publicity we already have out there. My appeal therefore is let the club officials ensure there is adequate police presence (besides the president’s bodyguards). Screen everybody who is coming in. Put the police to task to arrest anybody who will cause mayhem, this time no excuses.

    OR

The Jubilee leaders in as much as they have every right to attend, and we welcome their support, they can send their contributions without attending. The PM can grace and announce those contributions. This way anybody planning for political chaos will not have the chance.

at Kibalka, I beg to differ. let Kidero grace the occasion but not Rao. Kidero is the only person who have been very consistent by assisting the team since tuzo withdrew their sponsorship. let Rao do politics and Governor do development. that’s my opinion

I think it’s time we differented sports from politics. There is time for politics, and by the way to these guys this is their football or game. After the public spats over the podium they actually meet at their private clubs and share notes or business ideas.
So let’s welcome all and sundry and like @ODUOR12 puts it we need to look beyond this type of activities. We need solid and tested ways of running our club. I believe anyone who likes Gor will not ever have anything against anyone who wants to help us

Interesting that now Sofa and KRA protest the ref (Wanjala) for the game against Gor on sato. Never heard of teams choosing the refs for their opponents. The moment the name starts with O it also becomes an issue. Had Osano awarded us the goal against Bandari this journey would have been over a long time ago. At least now Kenyatta and Kalekwa will know who runs soccer in Kenya. How sure are they that the ref for Sofa/Tusker game would be what they want? At this rate teams will be choosing refs for themselves. Will they also scrutinise the ref for the games involving City Stars and KCB since those games will also decide the fate of one of those teams?

Number 16 Thaddeus I second your proposal. That land if developed ca generate income for the club to the point that we may not even need a sponsor.

All that said, I hope everyone puts politics aside. Gor Mahia is a football team and cannot be associated with any political party like Real Madrid during the time of Franco.

All people are welcome regardless of who they vote for. We need the Gor Mahia leaders to emphasize that point. The club cannot afford to be associated with any political party.

I am waiting curiously about what will happen on Thursday. One person criticised the other for re-introducing harambees. That is why I suspect the podium will not be shared. I however know there’s no permanent friends or enemies in a certain profession. The only other person allowed to change what they have said or done in the past is a politician. I strongly feel the podium will not be shared!
