With Nuttall signed, the work can begin

Scottish coach Frank Nuttall who steered Gor Mahia to its second succesive league title has signed a two year contract at Gor Mahia. This is good news for the club and its fans who wondered if Nuttall would be back especially after his lengthy holiday.

“We have handed Nuttall a two year deal after a marathon meeting today (Friday),” a source, who attended the meeting revealed. “We want him to handle the team without interference in terms of contract issues because we believe he has what it takes to propel the team to great heights.” said a club official to goal.com

In the past 3 years, Gor Mahia has not had a coach for more than a year. Logarusic left in mid 2013 and refused to return. While Bobby Williamson left amicably having signed a contract to coach the national team. Hopefully the two year period will give Gor Mahia some continuity

“We also wanted continuity and felt that a one year contract will not give him (Nuttall) enough time to coach the side. We are impressed by what he did last season, helping us to win title after only nine matches and we think he is the right man for the job.” continued the club’s official.

Nuttall has his work cut out. As it is, he hardly knows the players who featured for the team last season. Now he has to figure out how to build a cohesive unit with 14 new players. It will be difficult. But Nuttall can do it considering how quickly he adapted to the team last season. In fact when Nuttall took charge, the team hardly skipped a beat.

Nuttall will also be hard pressed to come up with new tactics now that other KPL coaches have studied his tactics.

His primary task will be to retain the league title which is the most important tournament as far as fans are concerned. But fans also want to see a better perfomance in other tournaments. Whereas Gor Mahia won the league in 2014, they fared badly in every other tournament from the Charity cup to the Top 8, the GoTV shield, CECAFA cup and the CAF champions league.

Of these the CAF champions league is the second most important. In this regard, hopefully Nuttall will soon get his hands on videos of Madagascan side CNAPs in order to devise a strategy against them. He must also insist on high quality friendlies to prepare for that match, build cohesion and test his strategies.

No wonder every other player wants to sign for Gor ans some who missed the chancemust be regretting. This should not mean that we drop all the other self-reliance ideas. The SACCO, Chase bank membership drive, 35l00 , Gor foundation amongst others. These can be championed by the fans but working together woth the EC.
The fans must also style up. No more chaotic scenes, harassing motorists (some of who could be the past, present or future sponsors), singing derogatory songs with ethnic stereotyping others.
I hope we learnt our lesson. Managing a team like Gor is no joke when finances are in short supply. Our chest thumping unfortunately got us nowhere.

We have to weed out all forms of hooliganisms from our midst and any fan found in any act of thuggery and hooliganism should be dealt with firmly without favour, fear and contradiction. All culpable fans and thugs found to be causing mayhem should be identified by our volunteer fans, arrested and handed over to police immediately. Hooliganisms have got no place in the modern football and we fans must support EC and law enforcers in weeding out this menace.

I suggest before the start of the Premier League, EC and law enforcement agencies should have a meeting with fans in order to sensitize the fans that going forward any form of thuggery shall be dealt with firmly. There is also a need for continuance engagement of fans by EC and branches on methodologies of taming any form of thuggery in all our matches.

We need to appreciate that in any form of competetion, there are either a winner, loser or draw. You lose today but aim to win tomorrow.

If we fans can embrace this, I can bet that the club will enjoy the following benefits:-
    1. Increased fan base
    2. Increased match attendance
    3. More sponsors coming on board
    4. Worldwide TV coverage
    5. Increased sales of the club merchandise
    6. Filing of stadiums
    7. More revenues to the club
    8. Increased confidence in the club by the public
    9. Enhanced public image
    10. ETC

Let us all fans resolve to firmly deal with hooliganism both inside and outside the stadiums.

Let EC engage all stakeholders that include fans, police, public, private security firms, players, press, media houses, FM stations, NGOs, government wings, event organizers, bouncers etc to eradicate any form of hooliganisms this year 2015.

    Initiatives such as:-
    – fans open days,
    – individual awards,
    – corporate social responsibilities,
    – clean ups,
    – fan days,
    – press briefings and updates
    – membership recruitments,
    – branches participations,
    – etc can help the club to eradicate the menace.

Uncertainty surrounds the 2015 edition of the annual Kenya Power Charity Cup with there being no indications of the tournament taking place this year.

As has been the norm in the last two years when the tournament has been active, the launch is conducted before the close of the year with the voting lines being opened in early January which is yet to happen.

Information privy to futaa.com has indicated that the sponsor, Kenya Power will be ‘taking a break’ this year from hosting the tournament, a development that will leave a bitter taste in the mouth of many local football fans.

    Voting

Voting is normally done by sms on short-code numbers (name of the team to the number), and the four teams with the most votes are pitted against each in early February.
In the 2014 season, voting lines closed on 23 January which is only 10 days ago though the league kick off date is yet to be known.
All 16 teams from the Kenyan Premier League together with top three teams from the second tier are lined up for the public to decide on which four will play in the tourney.

Fan trouble however witnessed during the semifinal match between Sofapaka and Gor Mahia last year but the former proceeded to win the match 3-1 and proceed to the final.

Sofapaka won both editions of the tournament after beating Gor Mahia and Mathare United respectively. In the inaugural tournament, Batoto Ba Mungu pocketed $10,000 (approx. KSh840,000) cash prize, while Gor Mahia bagged $6,000 (approx. KSh540,000).
