Gor Mahia Coaches

Gideon Ochieng

Gideon Ochieng became coach after the departure of Raphael Auka. Prior to that , he had been club secretary in 2003-2004 and assistant coach in 2009. Popularly known as “Agido”, Ochieng was very popular amongst fans and players alike. Ochieng became even more popular amongst fans when he steered the club to a 5th place finish in the 2009 Kenya Premier League. Gor Mahia had not finished in the top 5 over the previous 10 years.

Gideon Ochieng had played for Gor Mahia as left full back from 1991 to 1997 having joined from Re Union FC.

In 2010 , Zedekiah Otieno “Zico” was brought in as Technical Director to work alongside “Agido”. It was an inexplicable decision on the part of Gor Mahia’s management. In April of 2010, Ochieng was sidelined. The reason’s given for his firing were that there was a power struggle between him and Otieno “Zico” and that Ochieng had also failed his probation. The last reason was nonsensical. And Agido denied that he had any problems with Zico. Agido’s departure was not received well by the fan base who had appreciated his good work.

After leaving Gor Mahia he became coach of premier league side Congo Boys where he suffered the ignominy of being fired by SMS.
