Gor Mahia Coaches

Zedekiah Otieno “Zico”

Otieno was brought in first as technical director in February 2010. By April, he had become head coach after Gideon Ochieng was sidelined by management. His tenure started on a rocky note but by the end of the 2010 league, he had convinced manay naysayers by taking Gor Mahia to the brink of winning the league. On the very last day, Gor Mahia were only two points behind league leaders Ulinzi and were within a shot of winning the league. They ended up finishing second.

2011 started on a poor note for Zico. On the very first match day, Gor Mahia lost 0-3. It was harbinger of things to come. Gor Mahia ended up finishing 4th in the league. Fans were unhappy. Meanwhile Zico had been appointed as interim Harambee Stars coach. Fans were also unhappy that his Harambee Stars duties distracted from his job at Gor Mahia. In the meantime Gor Mahia went through a stretch of  six matches without a win. This doomed their chances of winning the league. By the end of 2011, fans had reached the end of their patience and in the usual Gor Mahia fashion, they forced him out.

Zico would return to Gor Mahia in 2014 to work as assistant coach to Bobby Williamson, a position he would retain until 2018
