Gor Mahia Coaches

Maurice Ochieng

After a succesful stint as player in the mid 1970s, Ochieng was appointed as assistant coach in 1983. His proudest moment came in January 1985 when as interim coach, he led Gor Mahia to win the CECAFA cup held in Sudan. It was an unexpected win as 6 Gor Mahia players were suspended at the time.

When Julians left, He took over as coach and finished off the 1985 league in grand style, leading Gor Mahia to their 3rd succesive title.

In January 1987, he made the bold prediction that Gor Mahia would reach the finals of the Africa cup winners cup. Little did he know that they would go a step further and actually win the cup. In 1987 he was officially listed as the coach while Jack Johnson was the technical advisor. At the end of 1987, Ochieng was inexplicably sidelined by team management.

Ochieng had another stint as coach in 2002 when he was brought in to replace Tobias Ocholla who had been banned by KFF.
