Gor Mahia to play CAF cup matches in Kisumu

Premier League (KPL) side Gor Mahia have earmarked the Moi Stadium in Kisumu for continental engagements this season.

K’ogalo earned qualification to represent Kenya in the prestigious African Confederation Cup in 2013, after beating Sofapaka FC on post match penalties in the final of FKF domestic Cup.

This development was confirmed to Goal.com by the club’s deputy Secretary General Ronald Ngala.

“The Confederation of African Football (Caf) rules stipulates that we have to select three venues for continental assignments. We settled for the Nyayo Stadium, Kasarani and Moi Stadium in Kisumu in that order.”

“You are aware we have quite a supportive fan base in Western Kenya. Besides the club has history at the venue, we beat El Merreikh during the Mandela Cup in 1987 at the same venue (en route to lifting the trophy).”

Gor Mahia have been drawn against little known Anse Re Union FC in the preliminary round of the continental tournament next month. Should the Kenyan team advance, a potentially tough challenge against Egyptian side ENIPPI awaits them.

Gor Mahia is the second KPL team, after Western Stima to declare interest in using the 20,000 seater Moi Stadium, that is currently under renovation.

That is the joke of the day. Very wishful thinking and a pipe dream. MOI-Stadium in Kisumu is miles and miles away to attain completion, checking and commission by the FIFA goal project. Stop building a mountain out of mole/ant hill. Just play in kasarani and milk us dry. Your cash cows are eager to see K’Ogalo advancing and going places in top flight continental championship without incurring extra traveling and accommodation cost.

gentlemen read the article again, what the author said is that Kisumu is among the 3 venues chosen, there is no harm because Nyayo and Kasarani rank in priority.

CITY STADIUM IS IN PATHETIC STATE………..THAT ONLY LEAVES NYAYO AND KASARANI…. I WOULD WISH WE SHOULD HAVE CONSIDERED MOMBASA AS THE 3RD OPTION AND NOT KISUMU !!! STONE THROWERS MUST BE TAMED YAJOWA.

I think we are just giving Kisumu because The Confederation of African Football (Caf) rules stipulates that we have to select three venues for continental assignments but we are not serious about it. It could also be mind-game to show that GM prefers to play in Kisumu as opposed to Mombasa. After all, when playing we will only play in one stadium and I bet you it will be in Nyayo stadium in Nairobi for all our home matches and not elsewhere.

I live in kisumu just a stone throw away from the stadium. the pitch resembles puodho or a marram road. the wall has not been completed! there are no terraces. if they must play in western kenya then think of mumias. mashemeji will wellcome the team.
