Who is Tito Okello?
Various reports from outlets like goal and Kawowo indicated that Ugandan winger/striker Tito Okello arrived in Nairobi on Monday August 24 to negotiate a contract with Gor Mahia. There are various other rumours of improbable signings of players from Malawi and Rwanda but this is the only transfer that is being reported. Later on Tuesday it was reported that Okello had agreed in principle to a two year deal. The development followed the collapse of talks between the forward and Vipers management for a possible extension of the contract.
Okello who was named after a former Ugandan president by the same name, was born in January 1996. Okello won the 2019-20 Uganda Premier League title with Vipers,. He is best remembered for the hat-trick scored against BUL during Vipers 3-2 victory away at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru.
Prior to joining Vipers at the start of the 2018-19 season after a brief spell at Benefica De Macau. He also played at Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Bidco FC, and Tanzania’s African Lyon.
He is considerably tall and of slight build. His height makes him a good target man for crosses and long balls into the box. He makes good use of aerial balls, scoring often from crosses. He operates on the flanks. He has an excellent first touch, good ball control is a very accurate passer and makes very good off the ball runs. All attributes which allow him to play himself out of difficult positions. Okello is also a deadly and accurate finisher, often making use of half chances and scoring from difficult angles.
Are this not the hall marks of our past failures? The tech bench has no knowledge of the signings. We thought things would change. Waketo wengewa
He is a good player not a fraud. My only question is how can you pay sign on fee when you haven’t paid players their salary for months?
True and that’s position of coach Pollack.
There should be no signings until salary arrears are cleared, something which should be common sense.
What is sad is not that Gor Mahia is broke but rather the shambolic management seems destined to continue, despite the elections.
Cartels reign supreme, and the coach’s opinion counts for nothing.
