Tito Okello arrives for talks as Balinya leaving for KCCA

Reports suggest that Ugandan talisman Tito Okello arrived in Nairobi to discuss a contract with Gor Mahia

Additional reporting from Kawowo Sports
Striker Tito Okello arrived in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi on Monday, 24th August 2020 prior to the official unveiling at Kenya Premier League giants Gor Mahia Sports Club.

The development followed the collapse of talks between the forward and Vipers management for a possible extension of the contract.

He then had to weigh the different options presented to him before making the decision to travel to Kenya.

The hardworking forward had earlier played at Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), BUL, and had a spell at Tanzania’s African Lyon.

When Tito Okello is finally unveiled at Gor Mahia, he will join the swelling list of Ugandans to have featured at Kenya’s most successful club.

Okello won the 2019-20 Uganda Premier League title with Vipers, in a season that was abruptly ended with five matches to play because of the deadly Coronavirus pandemic.

He is best remembered for the hat-trick scored against BUL during Vipers 3-2 victory away at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru.

Others in the recent times are; Jimmy Bageya, Godfrey Walusimbi, Daniel Muzeyi Sserunkuma, Khalid Aucho, Erisa Ssekisambu, Hashim Ssempala, Juma Balinya among others.

Balinya departs to KCCA

As one Ugandan striker arrives, another one is set to leave.

Juma Balinya who stated that his stay at the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) record champions was dependent on the improvement of the club’s financial health, and who was rumoured to be joining Azam, then Asante Kotoko, has now joined KCCA of Uganda.

“You know he had already given conditions to the club and it is clear he has decided not to return,” a source close to the player confirmed.

“He is in advanced talks with KCCA and he will be unveiled soon as the two parties are in positive talks now.”

Gor Mahia signed the former UPL top scorer from Young Africans (Yanga SC) at a time they were experiencing financial turmoil. Balinya and teammates had to go for months without monthly payments and it is that reason that is understood to have forced him to want to end his association with K’Ogalo.

His stay at Kogalo was cut short before he could make any impression thanks  to the Covid 19 pandemic.

Balinya was UPL’s 2018/19 top scorer with Police FC and those exploits saw Yanga sign him but the 28-year-old did not replicate the good form in the Mainland Premier League.
