Gor Mahia to appeal to SSMB

Kenyan Premier League side Gor Mahia have appealed to the Sports Stadia Management board to re-consider their decision of banning the team from the Nyayo and Kasarani Stadia.

While speaking about the up-coming Top 8 fixture between Gor and AFC leopards, Chairman Ambrose Rachier says that security of fans is paramount and the SSMB should look back into their decision.

“We are lined up to play against AFC Leopards in the Top 8 Cup. However, the major concern for us is the venue for that match. We know that these two teams command a large following of fans and taking the match to a small venue will only amont to putting in danger the lives of these fans”, Rachier said.

His secretary general George Bwana echoed his sentiments saying that they have already sent a letter to KPL and copied it to Supersport detailing how they have improved on their security arrangements.

“In all our games, we hire at least two ambulances, a fire engine and deploy over 50 police officers to maintain law and order. We have written to KPL and copied the same letter to Supersport detailing of the ways in which we have improved in our security arrangements. With that we do hope that our appeal will be considered and the Top 8 match will be taken back to Nyayo”, Bwana said.

@Paw Akuche I fully support your observation in post 3. I now realize that I am not the only one who is put off by that kind of language.

  • As much as we like to be back to Nyayo and most probably Kasarani our best bet is to play at City stadium. We seem to blossom there. SSMB will only want us back because of the cut they will get from the gate collections. Even a double header at Nyayo involving AFC and Tusker does not generate as much money as we do when playing a single game at City. So we should actually have City as our stadium and let the other teams who feel ‘away’ even when they are the home team at City stadium appeal against the GM ban. Those are my thoughts and I believe everyone has theirs. For Nyayo the only reason it’s convinient is when we are playing AFC or when SS want to show the floodlit games. Otherwise City would suffice for the other games. If it was me I would only lobby for the SS ban for our boys’ latents to be seen across the continent.

  • SSMB needs Kogalo as well as we need Nyayo/Kasarani Stadiums. From the business perspective, SSMB have lost more revenues than Kogalo. Same to Super sports, we all need one another. Super sports are really missing the charged and huge crowds, which other teams in KPL cannot afford to raise in any match attendance. I recently watched Sofapaka Vs Tusker/Tusker Vs Chemilil and the number of fans that attended the two matched could be easily counted.

Our pride in Kogalo is the huge fan base and this is our strength that neither KPL nor SSMB nor SS can take away from us. We are proud of our fans and the support they have continued to give our team. Most teams in KPL have benefited from our generosity of our fans (green army). Our weaknesses are the fans (crowd) trouble, poor management and lack of proper internal controls.
Meanwhile, I wish to encourage our fans to desist from hooliganisms even if the referee or men at the centre are showing poor officiating or rather provoking the fans. Let us keep peace and we shall overcome all calamities, stumbling blocks and bad names as depicted by the media and our ungrateful opponents. They are ungrateful opponents due to the generosity of our fans. Teams with no fan base are milking Kogalo fans.

Finally, let all Kogalo fan avoid fans trouble and let us give our club maximum support.

a major area of concern is that people still park their cars right infront of the emergency exit gates.what will happen in the event of an emergency?can that issue be looked into as a matter of urgency?

I say amen to Mwakio’s posting and that of other bloggers , i also would like to say that City is a better stadium when we are playing the other teams other than Ingwe , its Kogalos natural home and interferes with less traffic

Let us just appeal for the sake of showing no need to ban us/punish us but I think we are very much ok with City Stadium. Again let us be sincere here – apart from Gor Mahia & AFC Leopards which other teams can Super-sports use to market their brand here in Kenya?

I’m from birth to death fan of the Almighty Gor Mahia and to day I was watching NBA L A Lakers and Oklahoma Thunders. But my mind was on the outcome of Kogalo against Stima.I was not dispointed by the goaless draw.I was truly pleased with comments made by the ‘veteran’ fans such as Mwakio and Paw Akuche. They strive for excellence in communicating their ideas.Their English is standard and their ideas are well constructed.I am happy I belong to the same fan club with these guys. For those who did not watch the Lakers and the Thunders,Kobe was sent home empty handed today.

  • ARE YOU LISTENING SSMB?

There is no better way to put it than what our chairman put forward to the Sport Stadia Management Board ( SSMB).

Let’s face it. The security of our fans is paramount and can never be debated. The kind of hype this two rival clubs generate before and after they meet cannot be underestimated.
The SSMB only facilities, Nyayo and Kasarani stadiums are the only ones that can fit the two clubs. FIFA officials have more than once inspected the facilities and gave it a nod.

It should be a win- win solution to both parties; the SSMB and Gor Mahia. The two sides must be prepared to let go their hardline positions for the good of the game. Soccer lovers throughout the country can’t wait to watch the two sides take on each other again in the Top 8 prestigious tournament.

  • Good Lord, it was pretty hard to understand JAHAKOREMO’s posts i.e posts no.2 and 4. i did struggle. Anyway, i can assure you that the future is GREEN and PROMISING. We need to appeal to TUZO to revert to our old ADIDAs jersy as the one Gor players uses currently are pathetic, no wonder you dont see it around with any fun on match days.
