Former Gor Mahia skipper Julius Owino is among seven players released by the club.

The long serving defender was handed his release letter on Monday as Gor shape up their squad for the 2012 season.

Other players dropped include; Dennis Okoth, Hajj Mwachoki, Wycliffe Opondo, Ronnie Kagunzi, Tony Onyango and Graduce Ochieng.

Club secretary general George Bwana told SuperSport.com that the technical bench had come up with the final list of 30 players for the season.

Earlier in the day, Gor confirmed the signings of Ato Ayong and Peter Juma.

“We are getting Ato as cover for Solomon Nasio at right back while Peter Juma’s abilities as a defensive midfielder will mean we have more options in the middle of the park.”

The duo brought the number of signed in the off season to ten. Wycliffe Kasaya, Ivo Mapunda, Ibrahim Kitawi, David Owino, George Midenyo, Hugo Nzoka, Ali Abondo, Tony Nyangor and Yusuf Juma will all don the famous green jersey.

Gor Mahia start their campaign with the first leg of their Confederations Cup clash away to Ferroviario of Mozambique in Maputo before facing Tusker in the SuperSport/DStv Cup on February 4.

  • I think the technical bench has done me proud. I once said there was need to beef up the right back position coz the left was full and viola they sign Ato Ayong to cover for Nasio.
I think we have now an all round team, makori and kiplangat can do the running on the wings without worrying much about their backs. the striking department is heavily boosted what with hugo and midenyo. the mid now is perfect, rama, kitawi and gatusso are good ball players with the ability to knock around the ball with great skills. Good decisions coaches.
I have heard some teams brag bring on Gor mahia but hey they are in for a rude shock, we have signed well maintaining our first team while bringing hot stuff. Kudos again coaches.

Julius Owino has played for Gor so long i think they should have treated him with dignity. Just like what Tusker did wit Jeff Oyando.

  • @Albert Kosero and Vincent Ocampo, I’m in total agrement with you guys. Awilo deserves a better send off that can either include Gor Mahia youth coach or Assistant Team Manager to Jolawi Obondo as Ole Tunda does not deserve to be in the technical bench due to his poor attitude and relationship towards players. Awilo deserve something as he was one of the most disciplined players in Gor Mahia team. I do remember that Awilo has always remain very faithful and hard working to the team for very many years.

Admin, please create something for Awilo within Gor Mahia team.

Am happy the club has finally signed a right back, just that we don’t know him but an sure he’ll do the job. I share sentiments about Awilo, should be given a role at the club.

Ato Ayong? Is he a right back or a left back? Someone correct me please. I am sure management is working something for Awilo, they cannot discard him just like that after such long dedicated service. Where are the Ugandans somebody talked about?

Jungu kuu halikosi ukoko… Awilo can/should be given the youth team to steer and motivate. He has Kogalo’s logo embedded not on his jersey but in his heart. Thank you captain for your undivided service and loyalty to the team. It shall be paid here on earth sooner rather than later.

@ Ja Ngere, i still stand to be corrected…. these boys of Mathare Utd are twins. Kennedy Ayong and Kevin Ato. Ayong is a left back while his twin brother is a right back. I even played with then when they were turning out for KENAP FC.

Awilo must be given somthing. Days when kogalo had no money to pay players. players could walk to stadium and Awilo was there. Rachier and the office please awilo must be there. That is the only way we can reward loyalty. If we treat him badly then new players will never have faith and or loyalty with the Team. This must be part of the discussion in any next meeting ya ofisi. please please please. Luo culture do not allow a bad send off for a loyal servant. we cannot afford to do that. guys

Ali Abondo was supposed to have played for Kogalo long ago in his prime years; what value does he bring on board now? There must be a really justifiable ground for dropping Mwachoki, for information only please let us know. There is one of the Ayongs who disappeared from football scene some time ago, but there is one who continued to play for Mathare at left back. Which one have we taken? Awilo’s case has been clearly put to Management, no need to repeat.

  • Awilo should begiven a post at the technical bench in our beloved kogallo. He should not be left to go like that. Otherwise kudos to the coach and i believe we will be a force aka tsunami come 11th feb! Gor forever!

I think Kogalo hve the best squad in the country at the moment, the technical bench should hve been a little patient with haji mwachoki cz he is a very good n talented player, hwver with yussuf juma, midenyo, nzoka n rama salim on board Kogalo itafanya mambos 2012.AWILO is a legend at Kogalo thus should b given maximum respect n not dismsd like that,i think he can work hand in hand with Awono.KOGALO 4 EVA!
