A much better mid year transfer season

This year’s mid year transfer season was far more satisfactory than what pertained in 2014. This despite the fact that Gor Mahia has only signed two players.  Last year was disastrous as Gor Mahia lost several key players: Shaban Kenga was pulled back by Bandari who had loaned him to the club, Timonah Wanyonyi was snatched by AFC Leopards while others like Rama Salim, Anthony Akumu and Kevin Omondi and Jared Obwoge left to pursue perceived greener pastures. The departures left Gor Mahia with very little depth which Gor Mahia tried to plug with the signing of  Gattuso and a host of inexperienced players like Simon Mburu,  Charles Bruno, Ian Niva and Kennedy Ayong.

This lack of squad stability and inexperience contributed to Gor Mahia’s poor showing in the the CECAFA club cup and GoTV shield. This season thankfully there has been no mass departures YET. Emphasis on YET. This means the club will have a modicum of stability for the second half of the season and other upcoming tournaments like CECAFA where continuity and familiarity between players is important as is squad depth.

Though Gor Mahia only signed two players, coach Nuttall is satisfied with the two players signed.

“I think for Gor Mahia, Agwanda is a very good signing; he has a lot of potential gauging from the number of goals he scored in all competitions for Sofapaka in 2014 and also given he is only 22 years old. He still has room for development but I believe he is one player who will do well at Gor Mahia.” said Nuttall to supersport

Nuttall says that Agwanda’s versatility and aggression will make him most useful especially as a second half option because he can use his strength to exploit tiring defenders.

“The reason I say is because he can play in a few different positions and shows a high level of aggressiveness and the kind of strong mentality that we encourage here at Gor Mahia. I am happy to have him”, he said.

Paul Were adds depth and more attacking options down the flanks.

“Were is a good addition to the team. He is a good quality player and adds more competitiveness to the squad.” said Nuttall to supersport.

  • Hi, to travel to Tanzania dar for cecafa. Spider coach based in river road charges ksh 3500 per trip to dar Tz, also u need a valid passport n not Kenyan Id. Also u can process a travel permit at Tanzania consulate or at namanga border at a small fee. now I for see many fans missing this matches coz they lack valid passport, I therefore urge gor office to visit Tanzania consulate offices here in Nairobi and request them that gor fans travelling to dar be allowed to use Kenyan Id to pass the border, otherwise I know we can use isebania panya route n gain entry into Tanzania. I think me cannot miss the derby Gor vs yanga fc

    • John, the TZ Embassy will not allow that. They dont have powers to do so. Ask the fans to go to Nyayo House and procure temporary passports at a cost of Kshs 1,000. It is given there and there, no waiting!! Dar is quite far by road though but can be an enjoyable trip if well organized. Secondly, be weary of the bad relationship between Kenya and Tanzania lest you be locked up for small issues. It is very risky to drive a Kenyan number plated car on TZ soil. Polisi watawasumbua sana and remember it is a 12 hour journey with almost 30 roadblocks.

People of migori county have been crossing the boda to Tz but they have not been arrested. But we encourage fans to secure the permit, i used to work with long distance trucks but i Can tell u tz roads are good. If tell us Nairobi to tz Is far by road, what about Nairobi to Congo, rwanda, juba,Mozambique by road. I think This Is life time experience, u Will not ne arrested for entering tanzania legally .a budget of 20k Is enough. If u Can Pay for your gal rent, shoppings n handouts. We loose soo Much on other people than on our own wellbeing

  • I think for a period of years the EC has been shambolic to say least, and having been there for long they have learn the trade and doing quite well even though not the best, I congratulate AR for this. Right now we can seen some semblance of stability, cohesiveness in the playing unit and the whole team looks organized, and these is what really built the confidence and morale of the players considering also the packages; players are not complaining about their salaries not being paid, in a nutshell, K`ogalo now looks attractive to many players, so it is so easy for them to convince any player now to come to Gor, and this is a win win situation. My only pray is that AR not to sleep on his laurels until we make these dreams a reality;..K`ogalo to win CAF champions league in two years time,.. and that`s my dreams too.

  • Tanzania is behaving as if they are not members of the East African Community. Now what is this payable permit for entering Tz? To go to Uganda we only need an ID or voters card or even a passport and it is free for East Africans

    • Tanzanianesse fear that you might buy their land after the match. Futhermore Kenya has refused to ‘sit’ and wait for Tanzania to catch up so why should they cooperate.

  • I think It’s a big ask to ask ordinary fans to make the trip to tz it could be counter productive their police are very jittery of Kenyans

I agree with @Pmawego. Those who are willing to travel, please just follow the law. Temporary East african passport is issued at the border at the cost of Ksh. 800. Or you can obtain it from Nyayo house. Do not take chances, Tanzanians are not easy to deal with. any small thing can make you become a guest of the state. Otherwise, I wish the team all the best in this years’ edition.

I am not worried about nothing. For God and my beloved club – Kogallo

Sirkal, make us proud by lifting this trophy, like in 1985 Kamoga said that Odongo Omamo Kaliech led the fans in sweeping the street from JKIA for the mighty mahono team, this time we will sweep the street for you all the way from Dar to Nai to Ksm and Dhiwa, may the almighty God, Obongo Nyakalaga and all the spirits and ancestors of Mahono wuod Ogalo, Magere thuon Luo and Mboya guide you and give us this victory, it is thirty long years.

I travelled to Mwanza to Months ago and opted to use the one year temporary passport. I paid 300 for the passport and took 2 passport size photos. I doubt if it has changed to 1000 and 800 respectively. However, it is important to have yellow fever vaccine certificate. I had a hell of time with their immigration officials over this. I am sure Kogalo will have adequate fanbase in Dar. All Simba fans will support Gor.
