Akumu set for Denmark trials

Gor Mahia midfielder, Anthony Akumu has caught the eyes of European talent scouts and is set to go to Denmark to attend trials with Randers FC, the same team that has signed George Odhiambo “Blackberry”. The Kenya Under-20 midfielder was spotted by the scouts who had come to watch Blackberry.

Given his superlative perfornance for Kogalo, given the fact that Kenyan defensive midfielders seem able to find success in Europe and given his youthfulness, he stands a good chance of being signed on. He will become the third Gor Mahia player ever to attend European trials. Stopper Sammy Omollo attended trials with English second tier side, Bournemouth in 1993. Peter Opiyo attended trials with Fortuna Dussefldorf of Germany last year.

With the impending departure of Blackberry, possibly Abdimalik and now Akumu, Gor Mahia have a tall order to reload for next year with rivals Sofapaka and Ulinzi already recharging for next year. We wish Akumu all the best in Denmark.

  • Good begining for the club!! Keep it up and I know most of the Kogalo players will be soon joining the European teams. The next will be Masika, Makori, Ngwa and Kevin.

  • Gor Mahia is the place to go for any young players who want to impress European scouts. I hope other young players are watching and learning that hard work pays, especially the undisciplined Paul Were

Hm… Randers FC has announced that Teddy is up here for trials. I guess he’s freezing: http://www.randersfc.dk/index.php?afd=1&side=4827

But Randers FC has never announced anything about Blackberry. If they really have signed a contract, they would have announced it. Something is weird…

Yes Randers FC have. In the summer 2010, Randers got Blackberry on a trial, but he can’t join our squad because of his young age (you have to be 18 for leaving Africa(I think))

  • As much as we wish them well, why cant we pay them well and get more incentives to make them happy. If we loose young players this way without good contracts in Europe its pitty. Its only Mariga who came out successful in those scandinavian countries. Cant we borrow a leaf from Clubs like in DRC. They dont allow players to go to some weird clubs for a few cents. I thought Kenya were smart business people.
