CAF bans Oktay for one game

CAF has confirmed that coach Hassan Oktay will not be on the bench when Gor Mahia take on Moroccan side RS Berkane at Kasarani.

Additional reporting from the Nation

The Confederation of African Football (Caf) has banned Gor Mahia coach Hassan Oktay for continuous protesting against the referees in their 1-0 win over Angolan giants Petro Atletico during their final Confederation Cup group “D” match on March 17 at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

The Turkish-Cypriot was sent off in the 54th minute by centre referee, Moroccan Redouane Jiyad.

“The coach is automatically suspended for the next match (against RS Berkane)…he is banned from sitting on the technical bench and accessing the dressing rooms,” the statement read in part.

Gor hosts the Moroccan side on April 7, with the return leg coming a week later in the Northern African nation.

The continental body has also suspended four players namely Harun Shakava, Shaffik Batambuze, Jacques Tuyisenge and Ernest Wendo.

Wendo was sent off for an unnecessary high boot into the waist of Petro’s Vladamir Eston in the 36th minute, while Batambuze also red carded for a second bookable offence.

While Shakava will miss the first leg in Nairobi, Tuyisenge and Batambuze will be unavailable in the two-leg quarterfinal fixture after receiving two cautions in two different matches in the frame of this competition preceded by two cautions in two other different matches.

Wendo will miss the next three games for receiving two cautions in two different games followed by a one match suspension and a send off in the last game.

Should Gor not qualify for the semifinal, he will miss next season’s one game should Gor return to continental assignment.

The absence of Oktay on the touchline won’t have any impact.Zico will certainly fit into his shoes and deliver the same result if all other factors remain constant.

With all humility, I think the language is Kiswahili. Swahili is either a people or their culture. All in all, I think the painful truth is that Jausenge is now a Simba player. It is just annoying that we have turned out to be Simba’s feeder club.

That Moroccan referee was a true missionary of the devil. The suspension he engineered are now going to bite. However, the patriotism and emotional attachment of our local boys to the team can be enough to make a huge difference.

Gor is an institution and nobody is bigger than an institution. If it’s true he is actually leaving,I can only wish him the best of luck in TZ.

It’s now up to the rest of the players and new recruits if any to step up and fill that gap.

Meanwhile all the best to the team as we prepare to tackle Berkane.

  • No oktay, Never a problem. Club legend and record breaker ( the only one in club history to have participated in CAF quarters as both player and coach), Zico will show everyone what and how it should be done.

meanwhile news breaking elsewhere……Gor courting two rwandese and burundi midfielders. more to follow.

Good riddance and i duly thank CAF for slapping OKTAY with that BAN! He can not even visit the changing room but he will definitely invade the pitch accompanied with his fellow hooligans once ZICO has delivered the desired results.

Zico proponents, I beg to differ with you that now that Oktay had been banned, it is Zico who will deliver the results. Oktay has only been handed a match day ban. That means he is still in charge of preparing the team for the match, and will select the players to play on that game and even issue instructions to Zico, as the head coach, on how Zico would steer the game on that day. So a win will still be an Oktay’s win and a loss also likewise. Oktay is till the head coach and Zico still the assistant, doesn’t matter who will be on the touch line.

I beg to differ, good riddance for what? Oktay is ok, he has not done anything out of the ordinary, coaches always behave that way. On the matter of Tuysenge, Someone please educate me, is this the end of him with CAF CC this year? Were we prepared for that?

  • Coach Oktay Manwar aka Wuoyi Siro is a Diehard Fanatic Kogalo Coach willing to take anything for his love of the team. He also does this without taking any Casualties hence why he is misunderstood often. Zico Will Never be Head Coach of GM unless on a temporary two week basis while a Foreign Coach is sourced for. How many times Must i repeat this fact to enter peoples heads. He is a permanent and pensionable Assistant to Foreign Coaches at GM period…

With all due respect I think we cannot wish what Oktay has done away. I beg to differ that it is a good riddance. I also think that comparing and making preference between the coaches may not be healthy. Each and every one of them has a crucial part to play. Elevating one over the other upsets the team spirit I suppose they have. The worst case scenario however, is when the assistant begins to also think that they can do a better job than the Head Coach. We have found ourselves lagging behind whenever we were in this situations. In-fact if not for the quick actions taken by the office, we find ourselves in very tight corners. My position therefor is, I appreciate all that they do as a team.
As for Tuyisenge and Simba, am so disappointed. It is really killing the Undugu spirit they talk about. Simba have developed this habit of Taking our players with big money which is not a problem. But when it matters most for K’Ogalo. But on the other side of it these players also tend to just sneak and then later begin to say how bad Gor has been and how unhappy they have been. Somebody has insinuated that Gor is courting some players from Burundi, if it is so, must we always do so? How about the scouts looking at South Sudan……? Just thinking.

Guys, Jausenge going to Simba is not the end of Gor. Isn’t that how we also get players from the local teams or from Rwanda/Burundi? We need to support Tuyisenge for the unselfish service he has given us for the last four years. Pros rarely stay on for over 3 years in a team.
There is nothing wrong Simba has done by poaching or approaching Gor. Let us collect ourselves and move forward
