Calabar and Oboya set for trials

Dependable defender David Owino “Calabar” is set for trials at Simba Sports club of Dar es Salaam.

We have received a formal request from Simba SC inviting David Owino for trials and if he is successful and satisfies the technical bench, Simba SC will be willing to engage the club over his services. They have made arrangement for the player to travel and join them in camp and will cater for the expenses, said Sec Gen Chris Omondi to the club’s official site.

Calabar had earlier been rumoured to be talking to arch rivals AFC Leopards. Other rumours had him going to El Merreikh of Sudan though he denied ever being approached by the Sudanese. Calabar who is out of contract announcec months ago the he would bee seeking to move overseas to further his career. Should he go to Simba, he will be the third Gor Mahia player to join Simba in the past year following Mosoti and Sserunkuma.

Oboya in Vietnam for trials

Forward Patrick Oboya appears headed back to Vietnam. Oboya joined Gor Mahia in 2013 following a short stint in Vietnam. Prior to that he had played in the Slovakian second tier

Oboya’s agent Robert Muthomi revealed on Monday that the former Harambee Stars’ midfielder left country two weeks ago and is currently engaged in trial exercise ‘with several teams.’

“Oboya’s contract with Gor Mahia run out at the end of last season and he travelled to Vietnam following an invitation by a friend for a number of trials. The trials have gone well so far and the club (where he is undergoing trials) is taking care of him. Since the contract with Gor Mahia ended, the player is now looking elsewhere.” said Muthomi to goal.com

In his prime, Oboya was a permanent feature with Harambee stars for whom he appeared several times. His past 4 years have been injury plagued.

  • No transfer fees for Oboya, Dany, Calabar, Baba…I just wished someone saw this coming and acted fast to try and renew their contracts. Lost money, though I understand that you can’t force one into a contract. I wish them all the best in their new teams.

Transfer fees aside, the bigger issue of concern is that Gor Mahia has signed nobody

Am only so much concerned about Danny ,Calabar and Kizito.Oboya has only played for a maximum of 600 minutes for the entire season. If Owino goes through We will get transfer fee since his contract is running until June 15th ,2015.

Its high time Omondi and the team comes out to tell us what is transpiring.

What happened to Brian Umony and Robert Ssesetongo both of Uganda?

I only here EC recruited some junior from homabay academy, will this be of help in CAF.

Aduda and the team get serious,Gor is bigger thatn all of you and we are watching keenly what will happen.

  • This is the time Gor should go for new blood. this may take time to build but it could be a team for the future. If there is belief in youth then this is the time to act. Ofcourse getting one or two experienced players is not bad but trying to get established players is out of Gor hands for now. If this coach is ‘worth any Arsen Wenger’ then build a vijanas team now and tie them with contracts worth something. it’s now obvious that gor is a good training ground. The EC can turn this to it’s advantage. The exodus of players should be viewed positively as none of them is leaving out of bitterness. They are players who have been watched, Gor has provided the stage. Any other player who thinks he has something to offer shud be fighting to join Gor.

  • However much I wud love to see calabar move on to a foreign league, I dont think that David going 4 trials with Simba is gud bcos even Sserunkuma signing made another foreigner to leave to make space for him. & even Kiongera is xpected to be loaned so as to make room for the required no. of foreigners. If maybe calabar has an agent I hope he has that into consideration. Am sure that Simba will not sign him even if he impresses in trials

Calabar is a player of of no mean repute, I agree with Michael that Simba may not sign him but that does not mean that he is not at par and deserves the best.
As for transfers, why are we not buying? Or the management want to pull another Arsene Wenger?

@Dinga, I like your mature comments. What is happening at Gor is actually happening to all the teams only that other teams like Sofa are doing business with players while we are building players. I don’t see no harm if these players leave to make their lives better. So many younger and better players would like to join Gor in order to have that exposure. Lumping the team with experienced players at their peak is a risky thing. Ingwe is a perfect example. Who knew that Oluoch will adequately fill in for Walusimbi at the left back and so is Pierre for Musa.
Let’s get good young players and give them 3 – 5 years contract as opposed to veterans who want one-year contracts as they know their playing days are limited and they are at their peak. The Timothy, Kopany, BB, Kevo etc are the future of Gor. The rest will just come, use our good name and go for greener pastures which in itself is what all players should aspire for. Expecting the EC to tie players or demand transfer money where it’s not possible is asking too much, maybe development fee.
Let us all be realistic and know that we cannot run our club through emotions. Now can we blame the EC because Kizito and Danny left? No way. Even Calabar should leave and we get a fresher defender as he Calabar improves his life out there.
The thing is that we are not ready to conquer Africa right now but we can flex our muscles internally and maybe in CECAFA

Please bloggers, let our EC take their time in getting us the players we need and not those we want. getting right people for a job can be quite frustrating atimes, knowing how transfer markets have changed drastically whithin the past few years. I think relathvely young and unknown players have always done it for gor hence we should not expect the big name. we dont have to panic buy since our team is not that bad. three or four new faces will be enough and am sure we will get them.
