Congratulations to the Gor Mahia U19 team

Congratulations are in order to the players and coaches of the Gor Mahia U19 team. Three cheers also to the fans and officials especially the Gor Mahia fans foundation whose efforts have been vital in sustaining the team.

They finished first in the Nairobi county league with an unbeaten record. They won nine and drew only one of their ten  league matches  thus finishing top of  Zone C table with 28 points from 10 matches. Impressive considering that this year was their first time playing. Gor Mahia U19 will now play the winners from the six other zones in the Provincial League promotion play-off starting 21st October 2014.

Earlier this year, they played the Italian U18 team and acquitted themselves well despite losing. This is impressive considering that it is a club with limited selection options and limited resources playing against a youth team of a country that is a giant in football and has advanced coaching and limitless resources. In friendly matches, Gor Mahia U19 thrashed other youth teams such as NYTA. Ramsey Olinga has earned a call up to the Uganda U21 team while a number of other players have impressed new coach Frank Nutall enough to be featured with senior players in a friendly.

With Gor Mahia facing an uncertain financial future, a solid youth team will be crucial since the club cannot spend big money on players. Developing youngstars instead of depending on groups like FISA academy will also mean that when a player transfers overseas, Gor mahia gets most of the transfer fees.

  • quality of competition for under 19 is wanting ? meanwhile the fundraising saga continues…………….K’Ogalo official Ronald Ngala reveals to Goal that they are targeting to raise Sh20m in a fund-raiser to be presided by Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero

Gor Mahia officials hope to raise enough money to retain their best players at a November 6 fund-raiser to be held at Railway Club.

The club’s finances have been severely hit after shirt sponsors Tuzo pulled out several months ago.

On November 6, Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero will be the chief guest at a fund-raiser to help the club raise money to run their activities.

Gor Mahia Assistant Secretary General Ronald Ngala says they want to raise Sh20million and with this money hope to retain their best players for next season.

“The fund-raiser is meant to help us run the club once the season is over because we will not have gate collections. The most important thing is to retain our best players even before we think about buying new talent,” Ngala told Goal.

With lack of a shirt sponsor, the club has been relying mostly on gate collections to run their activities

  • Congrats Youth Team.

How i wish the proceeds from the fundraiser were to go to the youth team.

It’s time we continued where Siang’a left. The past three seasons we have reaped where Siang’a sowed. Top 8, GOTV and the League Title. When i look at any of our top players in the current team, all i see are players about to jet off. We need to get smart and build a new generation of conquerors so as to avoid the trap Ingwe finds itself.

We need a team of at least ten players who matured together.

When the season concludes, sell all players who want out and spend the money on youth structures and youthful players from East Africa with 5 year contracts.

Congrats lads…..quality is there to be harnessed. If three players are training with the senior team, this is good news for other players to pull up their socks and perform.

Congrats boys. On another note where is the saga on the fundraiser? I read and saw a noble idea. As we criticise have we asked ourselves how comes the team has held together for 9 months without a sponsor? Even Ingwe with a stable financial background has issues to do with payments yet Gor has been soldiering along despite the pessimists predicting doom. What I have gathered is that there are some people there who really love Gor. They will give to assist the team without asking what the team can do for them. May God bless them, starting with the Governor and the Chairman
