Dennis Oliech eyes KPL return possibly with Gor Mahia

Kenyan legend Dennis Oliech is interested in a return to active football. He has expressed an interest in joining either Gor Mahia, Sofapaka or Mathare United.

“Currently I have three options that include Gor Mahia, Sofapaka and Mathare United. I will for sure play in the Kenya Premier League this season. I am itching to make a return and I am confident that by January, I will have nailed a deal to mark my return,” Oliech told Milele FM Sports.

Oliech who is no doubt the best striker Kenya has ever produced has been training and playing in grassroots tournaments for the past year or so. Earlier in 2018, he was reported to be headed to South Africa to join a top PSL side.

Oliech who is 33 is, played in Qatar and for several teams in the French top tier including Nantes, Ajaccio and Auxerre for whom he played in the European champions league.

He has not played active football in a long time. It remains to be seen what he has left in the tank. Coach Hassan Oktay will be the best judge of that. Oliech is also eyeing a return to the national team with a view to playing at AFCON 2019.

I am yet to retire; I can come back to Harambee Stars. First of all, let me return to the local league and be the top scorer, then I will be good to return to the national team. I know I am good and I will score goals.”

Oliech never played for Gor Mahia. But two of his brothers did: Steve Okumu who played for Kogalo in the late 1990s and Andrew Oyombe whose stint at Gor Mahia was around 2007 and 2008.

Asante Kotoko coach says Ghanaians only know Gor Mahia

Asante Kotoko coach Charles Akonnor says he knows nothing about his opponents Kariobangi Sharks as the only team that Ghanaians know about is Gor Mahia.

“I have not heard about Kariobangi Sharks before. In Ghana, we only know about Gor Mahia,” Akonnor told reporters on Thursday.”

Gor Mahia is indeed a big name in West Africa especially among the older generation, many of whom remember the club’s continental exploits in the 1980s.

Gor Mahia beat the Ghana national team in a friendly in 2011 by a score of 2-1. The goals came from Ezekiel Odera who scored from Moses Odhiambo’s cross and Collins Okoth.

The loss left the Ghana coach shell shocked and wondering how he would explain to Ghanaians back home that their national team lost to Gor Mahia.

  • Signing Oliech is not a bad idea, at least he will offer guidance to players like black berry who plays like a 33 year old.

For Dennis Oliech, the good thing about this is that the desire to play again comes from within him and is not imposed by some greedy agent or broker. I believe if he drops the haughtiness and embraces humility, discipline and respect for self, respect for his team and respect for others, then nothing can stop Dennis. The elephant in the room is can his ego allow him to fit in Gor Mahia? Will his larger-than-life profile allow him to sit in the bench?

Talking of the bench, why should Blackberry throw tantrums for having been benched? If real pros like Dinga, Jamigori, Ogango Trailer and Albert Kosero have relegated themselves to the bench and they raise no qualms about it…….if Humphrey Mieno can accept the bench so graciously, despite his experience…..why pray me, do some players make being benched such a capital crime? From Ja’Asego’s report, I think we should brace ourselves for some storm in the Gor Mahia playing unit as coach Oktal stumps his authority. I assure the coach of my unwavering support with regard to this.

By the way social media is awash with reports that Ogango Trailer and Albert Kosero Kampala Sofaset are on their way to Kaiser Chiefs on a permanent deal. It is believed that they are following their favourite ‘Walu Walu’ and they have to do this before the January transfer deadline closes. If these reports are not true then let these two gentlemen come out and clear the air.

What are they going to do down south? Betting? Jeering? Cheering? Let them go. Gor will grow even stronger without them. As long as oliech is fit both physically and mentally then he should be considered so that he runs and thinks at the same time unlike some of the current squad members.

Odhis my namesake, that comment by Bandit was a classic in humour? How did you not see it. You have soiled this great name(light touch). On Oliech i think he is better than most strikers in the KPL at least in theory. In practice he needs to prove he is still the Menace on the pitch. Failure to do that will be the embarrassment of the century. But i support him being signed 200%. I pray he justifies my support.

Oliech owadgi Mary iramo ni iduogo?33 is also his “Footballing Age” the real one i’ll keep to myself. If Coach Oktay agrees though after seeing him train me i have no issue. Onto the pitchside where am camping all week offering my technical titbits alongside the coach i witness a trend where Head Coach Hassan Oktay is always shouting “Zico train the players don’t talk and laugh only” over and over which shows clearly why GM was headed to the doldrums with Zico at the helm. Gor players are just Zico’s friend’s akin to “base za mtaani” friendships with no respect whatsoever or work ethic reflecting professionalism. He looks like he has to convince them to follow his instructions which is brought about by hanging out with them post training and game days drinking guiness. Oktay is strict busting that comfortable bubble hard with the camp now resembling a military boot camp. All he is trying is to re-instil discipline and remove sense of entitlement. Ofcourse this cannot go without mumbling and sulking which am already witnessing. I support Coach Hassan Oktay 110% players train hard and build up your fitness levels as you were too lethargic before…

    I read this:
Former Gor Mahia manager Dylan Kerr has given his support for Zedekiah Otieno to carry on the work they started together at the club, after leaving the Kenya champions.. then I read Ja’Asego’s update from the training ground, then I convinced that Oktal is far better than Ker and has what the job demands of him. Again on work ethics, coach Oktal has my unwavering support.

  • If only our man Zico had stayed focussed and serious with the platforms life threw his way , he would be very advanced in his coaching career , the opportunities he had coaching Gor and Harambee stars was his chance to announce himself to the region or even the continent , but his lack of focus and seriousness enumerated earlier coupled with his failure to outgrow his KarioBhangi-istic tendencies has seen him spinning on the same spot mistaking it to be movement .
I have constantly looked around and asked myself if e.g there is any serious professional who e.g would prefer to be an assistant coach say in mancitty rather than being a full time coach of say Everton , or an assistant coach of Barcelona rather than being a full time coach of Girona, Zico’s peers are in Tusker , Bandari , Pamzo in Posta rangers, of what value is being an assistant adding to his CV .
Our brother must get off his comfort zone , do away with this sense of entitlement and re engineer his ambitions , only then will the world take note .
Personally I have no issues with Zico , but when it comes
to Kogalo matters and like Moi told Saitoti , uongozi ni mambo tofauti na mapenzi .

  • 1)KPL/FKF are at it again, this time planning to fix the 2019 league.GM forced to play midweek but K.Sharks match is shelved. GM’s EC why allow such double standards! 2) ZICO, it’s no secret his main job is to sabotage the h/coach for Mugabe when needed.

To answer @Oduor12’s long standing question…Salaries have not been paid and the issue is causing problems ahead of our big game on sunday with players threatening the usual go slow and handing Lobi Stars a walkover…Disheartening news at such a crucial hour…We are cursed i think even sharks are way better in terms of organization than our EC

@Jasego, Do the players know that by winning this game and appearing in the group stages of CAFCL then they stand the chances of being noticed by potential suitors. Do they know why Kahata is needed in Algeria and Tuyisenge by Sundowns/Mazembe? It’s a bad situation but fans and EC will continue with their lives and jobs yet the players will be messing chances of going for greener pastures.
By the way when will Sportpesa start paying the salaries directly to the players?

Has OPERATION SABOTAGE OKTAY started to change Oktay oktal to onyal. Has EC ever heard of keeping the momentum, 4- 0 win must be worrying some, usual suspects Mugabe, permanent ass. coach & maybe that erratic GK. Fans quality of life boosted r by GM wins.

As we gloat over the win over Zoo the boys have not been paid their salary just like someone on this wall suspected some times back. What is it that Sharks arw doing that we can’t get rifht as Gor. So sad when we are here shouting how we need to drop so and so and rope on so and so. Who worth his salt would come in such circumstances?

Zico is in GM primarily to serve Mugabe’s vested interests making him indispensible as long as AR is chair.3) KERR-he appears to have miscalculated his GM exit, hence his current parroting. @teddy aptly described the withdrawal effects of such situations.

4)DENNIS if you pull R.Milla World Cup antics then then you’ll be a hero twice over. GM offers you the CAF route to make your desired comeback better and faster. BBerry if you want to be like Ronaldo then improve your scoring rate to mirror Ronaldo’s.
