The Sports Stadia Management Board (SSMB) earlier slapped an indefinite ban on Gor Mahia from using its facilities, namely, the Moi International Sports Centre (MISC) Kasarani and the Nyayo National Stadium.

This came after acts of hooliganism that also saw property destroyed at Kasarani after the Tusker Premier League (TPL) game pitting Gor Mahia away to City Stars on Sunday 4 August. The ban was served with a monetary penalty to the club, an invoice of Kshs 2.8 million.

Damages and labour

The amount, as confirmed in a communiqué to media houses, signed by the acting SSMB CEO Mr. Gabriel Komora is meant to cater for damages inside and outside the stadium plus the labour involved.

Here is the breakdown:

583 plastic fixed seats were damaged and one seat goes at kshs 3,500 which brings a cost of re – installing them at a whooping kshs 2,040,500. Security house Gate 3 which was damaged costs Kshs 16,450; perimeter fence at Gate 3 which was also damaged costs Kshs 20,000 and paying booth towers 1 – 6 costs Kshs 58,000.

33% cost of labour

The total estimated damage cost comes to Kshs 2,134,950 then the cost of labour is estimated at 33% of that which totals to Kshs 704,533.5. The grand total adds to Kshs 2,839,483, the amount Gor Mahia has been invoiced to pay.

I think the SSMB is broke and they are raising funds to meet the overheads. Now that K’Ogalo has been banned from using moi kisirani I think there is no need of us paying this money. How can they fine the team and at the same time ban it from using the facility! There is no transparency in the whole process. Did they invite a member of the K’Ogalo EC while taking stock on the damages. PLS lets use the money in improving the players welfare and let SSMB go hang themselves. DONT PAY

The fine has to be paid, otherwise SSMB can decide to give perpetual ban on us.

@ Ochigah I support ua idea GM shld invest in a stadium.
One of the stadia used in the recently concluded COSAFA tournament was rebuilt for $600,000(approx.50,000,000) & thats field & terraces.
Let’s invest the 2.8m in the KSM stadium & fast track it since, Tokowanda’s astro tuff is worn out,Insecurity / hostility towards innocent GM fans @ Muthurwa & surrondings is 2 high, that will leave our highways as the unsolved problem, KSM county govt. is more likely 2 b receptive.
    KSM IS NEARER KAMPALA

  • Some of the posts on this issue are, to say the least, simplistic!
One – We wont pay because we have been banned. Gor is not paying for the future games but for damage already caused.
Two – Let us play outside Nairobi – Can the fans (NOT Hooligans) and the club continue footing the travel expenses?

Three – Let us build our Stadium – Amen to that! but will this be complete any time before we play the next game?

All these suggestions are dealing with the superficial problem, the real solution is, “DEAL WITH UNRULY FANS(or whatever else you call them). Who tells you they will not tear down our own stadium or any other outside Nairobi if they are unhappy with something on or outside the pitch.

    Let us bite the bullet.

Oduor12 please elaborate on that last thread about Kisumu being close to Kampala. Does it have anything to do with K’Ogalo’s esteemed fans in Kampala?

As much as the fine will need to be paid. How can GM verify that the number of seats broken was the number quoted? How comes GM was not consulted on this?
Kasarani as it is you cannot imagine that the Chinese recently refurbished it. You still see missing toilet/Bathroom sinks, missings taps, broken lamp posts etc broken everything. This was not done by Gor or AFC fans. And by the way how comes after the matches at Kasa the fans find the gates locked and the attendants nowhere to open for them? They are then forced to scramble in the turnstiles or jump over the fence with all that safety risk involved? No wonder the impatient once forcefully open the gates

Do you think if we stop playing at Kasarani and Nyayo stadiums then these hooligans will not damage anything in those alternative stadiums? Even if we build our own expensive stadium, those characters will still destroy property. We just need to come up with clear ways of curbing this monster in our midist. Let us not run away from the reality.

@George Ochoro, if you have ever gone to the stadium and told these hooligans to either stop smoking bang, taking alcohol, or being unruly and succeeded then you know what problem we have in our hands. The best Gor can do is to tell them the negative effects of their actions, which I believe they now know.
On the other hand the people best suited to handle this problem is the law enforcers. Have you ever heard of a goon arrested. Even the Ingwe goon who was captured live on TV molesting the ref and stopping the game is still free. The day one goon will be arrested and jailed for six months we will have set up a very good example. Even in England when this problem persisted the goons were getting arrested one by one at their residences where the crowd/mob was not there to ‘rescue’ them

its bad to destroy properties, hooliganism is not allowed. But my question is why should we be burnt and finned at the same time? Gor mahia EC should also do right thing for them to stop daring gor mahia fan. they should sign well otherwise i hope the fine have been paid by the sales of Rama to Qatar. Thanks Rama.

  • increase the ticket prices to like kshs.1,000.00 and make it mandatory for anyone comming into the match to hold a club membership card whos registration must be made expensive and be renewed annually the hooligans keep off a certain class of Kogalo fans that would be more beneficial to the club than the worthless useless marijuana smoking thugs surviving at the bottom of the food chain who don’t understand that there are three results in football and are anti development conscious i just hate the bafoonery .

  • and remember Gor Mahia is a Nairobi team the idea of playing outside Nairobi is out of question Kogalo will always be a Nairobi team, Home ground ni Nairobi City Stadium or Tok Komwanda if you will…. please don’t dream of changing the home ground Gor haiku come Nairobi ilizaliwa Nairobi get that clear good people and if you dont agree read the history of the club on the same website…

  • The cost is too high to bare as a club. It does not help to vent our anger on lifeless things, I mean gates, seats, cars etc.Like Erico Jarae posted, let those who were excited in uprooting the chairs be the first to come out in the open and write the Cheques. The hooligans must understand that loving Gor means protecting its assets and developing relationships with others so that more and more people could jam park the stadiums for the love of the game. This will mean more money. This will spiral the clubs
growth.Again I say it is painful

Let us move our home mashemeji derby to Mandela Stadium Kampala due to the following reasons:
    1) Only real Gor Mahia Fans will travel to Kampala
    2) Revenue raised will be double what we normally raise in Kenya.
