Finally Gor Mahia gets landmark sponsorship

After over four decades of existing as one of the most popular teams in East Africa, Gor Mahia have landed one heck of a sponsorship. The deal is worth Ksh 38 million over two years. It is the biggest sponsorship deal in the country.

There had been weeks of speculation and rumours  ever since rumors started to circulate that a deal was in the offing. By the end of last week, most fans had dismissed it as yet another hoax. Further to that, Gor Mahia was the only top community team left without a sponsor. AFC Leopards, Mathare, Sofapaka and Thika United all had inked sponsorship deals. Even community rugby clubs like Mwamba and Harlequins had inked lucrative sponsorship deals. This left many wondering why Kogalo, the most popular team in Kenya could not land any sponsorship.

The last time Kogalo had any semblance of a sponsorship deal was 1991 when Kogalo sported shirts emblazoned with “International Casino”. It was a deal brokered by then chairman Joseph Ogode who was the MD and International Casino. However nobody knows what the deal was worth and the club was always flat broke and often failed to pay allowances.

Sponsors have for years shied away from supporting community clubs, due the shambolic nature of Kenyan football. It is thus refreshing to see sponsors come forward. The football community must throw its support behind any company that supports football. Tusker have basically abandoned Kenya sports,  whereas they are pouring millions into Tanzanian football. So rather than go to the bar and spend money on EABL products, football fans should spend the money buying Tuzo Lala for their loved ones. Gor Mahia supporters in particular must throw their support behind Tuzo. as you know, whether or not Tuzo renews the sponsorship after two years depends on whether their sales rise. So for Pete’s sake, support Kenya football by buying Tuzo.

The club officials must play their part by accounting properly for this money. The club does not belong to any individual. And if the money is not well accounted for, sponsors could pull out in order to avoid the bad publicity that comes with being associated corruption. On the other hand, judicious use of the sponsorship money could see the club return to the heights it scaled in the 1980s.

Fans must also play their part. Aside from buying Tuzo products, fans must behave well during matches in order to avoid giving the brand a bad name.

I want assure Spin Knit Dairies that we are going to partner together in building and marketing Tuzo products and Kogalo in a very big way. We are going to have songs dedicated to Tuzo promotion. it is to me like revolution(evolution).rem. how gor have been viewed.these bring me to my point;lets all unite to support these company. they are for the big population they see in the field and not very much for the team.thats why if we give it the required support the two year sponsor could be extended.how i wish somebody somewhere is not planning for the miss use of these money. to gor players and the coach you should show your appreciation by giving us the trophy we are so are so much obsessed about.these is when many sponsors will come calling instead of us going for them.

First and foremost congratulation GM and thank u Tuzo for coming on board I know u will not regret ur association with GM.

secondly let me bring it to the attention of the fans who pay for VIP tickets, through reliable information fans who have not paid for VIP tickets still find their way into this area. I am told that u pay 100/- and then press 50/- kwa mkono ya security then alas! u enter the VIP side. Kumbe I have been a fool!

Why are there so many chokoras at the VIP area running around, these small kids have become a nuisance do they also pay the 400/- to enjoy the comfort of sitting at the VIP stand? what about the vendors?

Lastly now that we have sponsorship with Tuzo, could I be allowed to declare that Tuzo is the official drink at all our matches? we would not like to see any soft drinks sold on this match days as they are not helping us with anything they had their chance and did not take it.

To end it, those coming to smoke whatever shit u guys are smoking and drinking Gor security team make sure no one get’s into the stadium carrying any liquor(cheap)or ciggarates(bhang) this case is serious and the police are now involved ukipatikana na bhang my friend dont cry out that u were not warned.

Right on point Jakojera, The bhang smoking is despicable and some “fans” use K’galo games as an excuse to engage in this vice, using the crowd as a cover.Isn’t smoking bhang illegal in Kenya, only it is not GM fans’ (or security for that matter) responsibility for stop this wayward behaviour, its the Police and they should arrest these fellas lock them in prison. But then again we all know Kenyan Police don’t we?

Can the Gor Mahia Officials also make available Gor Merchandises during matches so that those of has who have not bought the merchandise can have the chance of buying them during matches.

Lastly when are we getting the New T-Shirts? I need to buy for my whole family.

  • now i got an issue with one comment about children.i dont know if the person commenting on kids on the centre stand went to the stadium as a kid,i did and when my father, the man who introduced me to kogalo in 1985 was not around i could wait for a grown up who would pose as my paps and i would get into the stadium, today am a kogalo follower so i think children must be allowed into the stadium how else do you recruit fans?otherwise congrats management for securing TUZO on board.

@pawakuche it was with a bad intention, but the kids have started to prove to be a nuisance. They run around raising dust everywhere and GM must be so rich to host such large number of kids just run around the vip stand. Please read my comment again then u will understand what I mean unless u dont seat at the VIP at all.

  • I pay 400sh to enter a game and am shocked to hear that there are guys who enter the stadium by bribing the security guys to enter the main stand. Officials you are sleeping on the job. Indeed i have hear people say that they would rather go to the Russia side than go to the center stand to have their lungs filled with bangh smoking hooligans. What about that lunatic who looks descent and runs around after taking whisky. Who allows guys to enter the stadium with bottles. What is wrong with our security. Am so angry about this and it is the second time am compaining about this. Police take charge.

We are on the same page WAXME. I take it to be my personal responsibility to bring in the police in civilian to arrest these criminals. Bhang is illegal and smoking it in public is an insult to the very laws that Govern this country. The same applies to chewing those leaves and draining it down with something hidden in a bottle whatever that is. Gor fans beware!!!!

@Odera, this people who are now blubbering have been there and have not done anything to bring any deal to the table, now that TUZO has come in they have no shame to open their bics to critisize the deal. Lets learn to appreciate what we have i know that in the next 2 seasons for a company to put their names on a club jersey the least it will cost them will be 50m watch this space!! U r starving when a good samaritan gives u food u start giving demands on the kind of food u want,,eeeh chungeni sana!

  • i also join my brothers and sisters by congratulating the management for securing the biggest sponsorship deal in the history of football in Kenya. The TUZO deal is a real testament of confidence of the sponsors to our great club, the Gor Mahia FC. I do hope this deal is going to cement the relationship between the club and the company for many years to come.

Our priority as fans is to go and cheer our team in the stadium. We should leave the rest to our able management team whom we have entrusted to run the affairs of the club. I do also hope the officials are taking note of the issues being raised elsewhere on this page. On a lighter, can somebody send for me ou club anthem. I can’t wait to learn to chant! Viva! Viva!
